Please make sure you look at the dates for your diary section and please note the information regarding a Federation Update Meeting on Monday 2nd July. Week beginning 2nd of July will also be our school Transition Week where children get the chance to spend time with their new class teachers (more information will be provided shortly). In addition booking for Autumn Term clubs begins on 29th June. Finally, we would like to say Eid Mubarak to all our Muslim families. We hope you have a wonderful day celebrating with loved ones. Mr Louis Harris Head of School In Year 2 we have had the opportunity to make delicious jam sandwiches to help us generate ideas for our writing. In writing we have been learning about how to write instructions using imperative verbs. We have written our very own set of instructions on how to make jam sandwiches; and it is super easy and simple to follow. Janice Thomas (Executive Head for the 3 schools), Laurence Kavanagh (current chair of het Daubeney/Sebright Federation), Marisa Childs (current chair of Lauriston Primary School) and Louis Harris/James Green/Gregory Logan (Heads of Schools) will be attending the meeting. They are looking forward to meeting you in person, to letting you know where we currently are, what will be happen- ing in the next few months and to answer any queries you might have. We hope to see you at the meeting on Monday 2nd July at 6pm. Carry on with our Nature All Around Us topic, Willow children have been focusing on Minibeasts. They have been learning all about snails, slugs, caterpillars and butterflies. The children were really ex- cited to do a minibeast hunt in the Willow playground. Each child had a tick list and as soon as they found a minibeast they had to tick it off the list. Willow children were very excited about digging for worms in the soil and lifting up stones and logs to find what was hiding underneath! Reception class have had fun hunting for mini-beasts in the orchard and school playground. We ticked our tally charts when we found a particular type of mini-beast and discussed their characteristics. We also made our own spiders! It was a great day! Year 6 have had a great start to this term. As part of our PSHCE lessons we were learning about transition into secondary school. We had some visitors who were ex-Lauriston pupils who spoke to our children about transition and secondary schools. It was great to see the important questions raised which then helped to put children's mind at ease about moving onto secondary school next year. Year 4 are continuing to work as Garden Ambassadors this term with the able help of Garden Assistant Zayd Ahmed. After all their hard work, they are now reaping the benefits and have been cropping broad beans and lettuce. Last week, they were able to pod the beans, prepare a salad and dressing and sample the fruit of their labours. It was impressive to see how they enjoyed eating their greens. LEGO LAND Year 5 were visited by some Lego masters last week. We were instructed to design and construct different buildings collaboratively. Each group shared various Lego pieces to create structures for the future. LEGO LAND Year 5 were visited by some Lego masters last week. We were instructed to design and construct different buildings collaboratively. Each group shared various Lego pieces to create structures for the future. Year three have been focusing on a picture book called, ‘The Lion and the Mouse’. Last week, children discussed and understood that it is a fable story with a very special meaning. This week, children started writing the story and we have been so impressed with their detailed descriptions. We can’t wait to read the finished story by the end of the week! Please see details of a research project which you are all invited to participate in: Dear Parents, We would like your help with a UCL research project that aims to identify the effects of the built and the social environments on whether travel undertaken by children is carried out on their own (i.e. unaccompanied trips), or under the supervision of an adult. This project is comparing family situations in Santiago (Chile) and London. We have already carried out interviews in Santiago and are arranging similar inter- views in London. For this exercise, we need to carry out interviews with families living in either a deprived or wealthy area of London (20 of each) where the families include at least one child aged between 6 and 16 years old. The interviews will involve the parents/carers of the children. The interview is fairly informal and involves a range of questions and exercises, and should not last more than one hour. The interview will cover issues such as where children are able to travel with- out being accompanied by their parents or carers, where parents allow only them to go when they are accompanied, and why. This will cover the sort of activities they carry out, and the routes they use, and will not touch on sensi- tive issues. This research has been approved by the UCL Research Ethics Committee and the researcher has an updated DBS check. Please contact us to take part at: [email protected] Dear all, The ‘I AM ME’ Hackney Youth Showcase event is approaching fast!
