4 CITES Listed Species
Dutch Caribbean Species of High Conservation Value 4 CITES listed species 4.1 Notes on CITES Species CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. In the CITES legislation organisms are classified in 3 categories depending on how endangered they are thought to be, or the degree of protection they are thought to need (CITES-Website 2012); ! Appendix I includes species threatened with extinction. Trade in specimens of these species is permitted only in exceptional circumstances. Import and export or re-export permits are required, issued by the Management Authority of the State of Import, Export or Re-Export. ! Appendix II includes species where trade is allowed but restricted. An export or re-export certificate is required, but no import permit is needed unless required by national law. ! Appendix III are species in which trade is allowed but monitored. An export permit must be issued by the Management Authority of the State that included the species in Appendix III. 4.2 Summary data CITES I CITES II CITES I CITES II CITES Dutch Caribbean 15 189 Saba 16 153 Marine 12 1120 Marine 5 115 Terrestrial 3 68 Terrestrial 1 36 Aruba 7 124 St Eustatius 160 159 Marine 4 102 Marine 5 115 Terrestrial 3 21 Terrestrial 1 43 Bonaire 17 153 St Maarten 16 152 Marine 5 115 Marine 5 115 Terrestrial 2 31 Terrestrial 1 33 Curaçao 17 158 Marine 6 115 Terrestrial 1 36 CITES listed species 31 November 2012 Dutch Caribbean Species of High Conservation Value 4.3 CITES I 4.3.1 Marine CITES Appendix I species Common Group Name English Name Scientific name Notes Aruba Bonaire Curaçao Saba Eustatius St. -

Key words: Cnidaria; Anthozoa: Antipatharia; Myriopathidae fam. nov.; Myriopathes gen. nov.; Cupressopathes gen. nov.; Plumapathes gen. nov.; Antipathella Brook; Tanacetipathes Opresko. A new family of antipatharian corals, Myriopathidae (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Antipatharia), is estab- lished for Antipathes myriophylla Pallas and related species. The family is characterized by polyps 0.5 to 1.0 mm in transverse diameter; short tentacles with a rounded tip; acute, conical to blade-like spines up to 0.3 mm tall on the smallest branchlets or pinnules; and cylindrical, simple, forked or antler-like spines on the larger branches and stem. Genera are differentiated on the basis of morphological fea- tures of the corallum. Myriopathes gen. nov., type species Antipathes myriophylla Pallas, has two rows of primary pinnules, and uniserially arranged secondary pinnules. Tanacetipathes Opresko, type species T. tanacetum (Pourtalès), has bottle-brush pinnulation with four to six rows of primary pinnules and one or more orders of uniserial (sometimes biserial) subpinnules. Cupressopathes gen. nov., type species Gorgonia abies Linnaeus, has bottle-brush pinnulation with four very irregular, or quasi-spiral rows of primary pinnules and uniserial, bilateral, or irregularly arranged higher order pinnules. -
G-Mac Biography
G-MAC BIOGRAPHY What could it be about fast-rising sing-jay, G-Mac, why he is highly favoured by music industry types, including the big names of the business? From cultural sing-jay Sizzla to crooners Natty King and Bushman, G-Mac has been embraced by some of the most influential music practitioners, several of whom are solidly in his corner, rooting for G-Mac’s ascension to the top. But it is not only music industry types who are impressed with the superstar on the rise, as fans of reggae and dancehall have latched on to the music of the comely sing-jay. His breakout, critically acclaimed number, Vampires, has been burning up the airwaves and flying off the shelves. G-Mac’s follow-up, Girl You Got Me Going On, produced on his very own Royalty Records, has also garnered radio staple status. The singles have been keeping the dancehall crowd dancing, becoming a favourite of the most prominent sound systems and selectors. This newfound success G-Mac accepts with graciousness. “I just give thanks to all the people who have been supporting the cause,” he submits. “I am happy that my works are being appreciated. There is no greater joy than knowing that what I put out there is being accepted.” With disarming good looks, crisp, distinct vocal attributes and personable characteristics, G-Mac is knocking down the doors of superstardom while knocking everyone off their feet. His brand of music spans the gamut from cultural, reality message music to party floor themes and affairs-of-the-heart lovers odes. -

This identification guide is the result of intensive sampling of shallow-water habitats in Bocas del Toro during 2003 and 2004. The guide is designed to aid in identification of a selection of common macroscopic marine invertebrates in the field and includes 95 species of sponges, 43 corals, 35 gorgonians, 16 nem- erteans, 12 sipunculeans, 19 opisthobranchs, 23 echinoderms, and 32 tunicates. Species are included here on the basis on local abundance and the availability of adequate photographs. Taxonomic coverage of some groups such as tunicates and sponges is greater than 70% of species reported from the area, while coverage for some other groups is significantly less and many microscopic phyla are not included. -
