2015 Belmont Stakes: Can American Pharoah Claim The Triple Crown? Author : Robert D. Cobb It is once again time for the Belmont Stakes this Saturday. It is the most popular race in America once a year, only if the same horse won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness. In this case, the horse did, and the oddsmakers have some interesting thoughts for this weekend’s big event as American Pharoah will attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years in Saturday's Belmont. Here is the breakdown of the field and what to watch for in order of posting position. Mubtaahij is trained by Mike De Kock and will be Jockeyed by Irad Ortiz, Jr. The owner: is Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalife Al Maktoum. The odds currently sit at 10/1. Despite his owner having the longest last name in the history of horse racing, there isn’t much to bank on with Mubtaahij. Tale of Verve is trained by Dallas Stewart and rode by veteran jockey Gary Stevens. The horse is owned by Charles Fipke. Odds sit at 15/1. With one of the best jockeys in the history of horse racing on top of this horse, don’t be shocked if he finishes in the top 3, if not wins it all. Madefromlucky is trained by Todd Pletcher and jockeyed by Javier Castellano. The owner is Alto Racing The odds are 12/1 for the coolest named horse in the race. He may just get lucky! Frammento is trained by Nick Zito and jockeyed by Mike Smith. The horse is owned by Mossarosa and faces steep odds of 30/1. This would be the ultimate shocker, don’t count it on however! American Pharoah will be in the 5th post position. Look for this colt trained by Bob Baffert and Jockeyed by Victor Espinoza to take home the Triple Crown for Owner: Zayat Stables, LLC. Odds are currently at 3/5 but will change dramatically before Saturday when betting starts getting heavy. Frosted will be coming out of the sixth post and provide a serious threat to American Pharoah. The horse is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and rode by famed jockey Joel Rosario. The horse is owned by Godolphin Racing, LLC and faces odds of 5/1. Look for Frosted to possibly pull the upset. Keen Ice Not too much to be keen on this horse trained by Dale Romans, rode by jockey Kent Desormeaux and owned Donegal Racing with steep odds: of 20/1. He has one of the top three jockey’s in racing aboard, 1 / 2 but I’m not sure it will make the difference. Materiality is trained by Todd Pletcher and will be rode by John Velazquez . The horse is owned by Alto Racing and will face odds of 6/1. Materiality starts in the dreaded 8th hole and will have to work hard to overcome the snowman position! Look for horses rode by Gary Stevens, Joel Rosario and Kent Desormeaux to always give American Pharoah a solid run for the money, but in the end, I truly believe we are about to see our first Triple Crown winner in 37 years. 2 / 2 Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org).
