Darlington Police Department Capt. Michael Cook with one of the city's new leased patrol cars. The department took delivery of five 2019 Ford Police Interceptors last week and – once they're striped and fully kitted out with lights, sirens and cam- eras – three of these new vehicles will take to the streets as patrol cars. The other two will be unmarked vehicles for use by investigators. The five cars are the first vehicles received by DPD under the city's new lease agreement with Enterprise, which will eventually replace all fleet vehicles. “Over the next five years, we will be getting more leased vehicles and selling off what we currently have. The money from those sales will help pay down the lease,” says Howard Garland, Darlington city manager. PHOTO BY SAMANTHA LYLES Hartsville roundabout changes traffic pattern The S.C. CLEMSON – Ten Clemson University theater students took their show on the road in a big way this month, travel- ing to Dubai to perform their original play, “Hello, My Name Is,” at the American University of Sharjah (AUS) as part of the second International Theatre Festival. The production and trip came together thanks to Shannon Robert, an associate professor of performing arts who wanted her students to experience performing for a wholly different audience than they’re accustomed to. “I want the students to have this international cultur- al experience,” Robert said before the trip. “Some of them have never been out of the country. They’ll get to take classes from people who are not [Clemson theater profes- sors], and they’ll get to learn about playwriting, criticism, design and performance through a different cultural lens.” The festival, held from Feb. 3-11, featured workshops, lec- tures and master classes by premier artists and educators in performing arts.
