A Note from our Pastor Father Mark Arnzen

In an interview Catherine de Hueck Doherty was asked this question, "And where does that faith come from?" Her reply was this, "That faith comes first from Baptism, secondly from falling in love with God. Thirdly, from my family. Fourthly, from my environment. The Russian environment of older days. Right here. It's very strong in me. But I can give it to you; it's all yours for the asking." (p 72) Who was Catherine de Heuck Doherty? First and foremost she was a woman of great faith. She was a Russian Baroness, a wife and mother who escaped the communist revolution and became the founder of the Madonna House Apostolate. She has been declared "servant of God" as her cause for canonization goes forward. Her name came to mind earlier this week when I was looking for a book and found Fr. John T. Catoir's book "Encounters With Holiness" on the shelf. In this book Fr. Catoir interviews different women and men who are example of our Catholic faith. I had read the book several years ago and what struck me most forcibly during my reading of her story was the determination and dedication to living the Gospel message even after the tragedy of loosing all she had in the Russian communist revolution. But I also think that her story gives great hope of how the search and discovery of holiness and joy can transform our lives and the lives of each person we encounter...

Scripture Study Monday Evenings & Tuesday Mornings The current Scripture Study program is an 8 week course that started on September 10 at 7 pm in PAC B. Meet St Lucy's newest Director of Faith Formation Monica Echevers!

Meet St Lucy's newest Director of Faith Formation: Monica Echevers! Monica was born and raised in Panama. She attended Catholic school and was involved in her parish community as a child. As a young adult Monica had an encounter with God which led her to learning more about God and the Catholic Church. She has participated in different pastoral groups and served as a Confirmation Catechist and Coordinator back in Panama. She holds a B.A. in Psychology. Before moving to the USA she worked in HR and Administration. For the last four years she volunteered at Saint Martin Parish in Sunnyvale as a member of a Spanish choir, the catechetical program and other parish projects. She loves to sing and play guitar and embraces Saint Augustine's quote: "To sing is to pray twice".. Monica is married to David and has a two-year old son named Matteo!

Mónica nació en Panamá y ahí creció. Ella asistió una la escuela católica y participó en su comunidad parroquial cuando era niña. Como una joven adulta, Mónica tuvo un encuentro con Dios que la llevó a aprender más acerca de Dios y la Iglesia Católica. Ella ha participado en diferentes grupos pastorales y se desempeñó como Catequista de Confirmación y Coordinadora en Panamá. Ella tiene una B.A. en psicología. Antes de mudarse a los Estados Unidos, trabajó en recursos humanos y administración. Durante los últimos cuatro años fue voluntaria en Saint Martin Parish en Sunnyvale como miembro de un coro, el programa de catequesis y otros proyectos parroquiales. Le encanta cantar y tocar la guitarra y le gusta lo que dice San Agustín: "Cantar es rezar dos veces". ¡Monica está casada con David y tiene un hijo de dos años llamado Matteo!
