Our Box Office has been temporarily relocated and the Coffee Bar and Gallery have been closed for redevelopment this summer. The new and improved space will be reopening in mid-September as The Foyer a place where you can not only buy a ticket, relax with a cuppa and a slice of cake and look at the work of local artists but also enjoy informal performances or join in with activities.

The redesigned space will enable us to showcase more local talent and bring you a whole new strand of events including regular music performances, artist’s talks, games and quiz nights. The aim is to create a venue in its own right, a place where you will want to come for a relaxing drink in the evening whether you are going to a film or event in the auditorium or not.

The highlight of the autumn season will be the unveiling of our refurbished foyer! The redesigned space will be open from mid-September so come along and relax with a drink in the comfy new seats and look out for details of foyer performances.

This season brings a real variety of shows with PODS’ Rodgers and Hammerstein Singalong, 50s/60s hits from Lipstick on Your Collar, Monstersaurus for children, and The Second Best Bed a superb Worcestershire produced theatre piece. Presenter John Suchet and former Bellowhead lead-singer Jon Boden will also be gracing our stage.

John le Carré: An Evening with George Smiley Live from 's Royal Festival Hall, join us for a unique celebration of John le Carré’s work as he discusses the full breadth of his career, and reflects on the continuing story of his most famous creation, the tubby, bespectacled spy, George Smiley. Coinciding with the publication date of his new novel, A Legacy of Spies, the event will include readings from the book by the author. With a rare question and answer session, this will be an unmissable opportunity to experience one of the foremost chroniclers of our age, direct and in his own words. John le Carré and producers The Ink Factory are donating their profits from this event to aid organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders.

The Magic Flute Recorded at the Royal Opera House, London Julia Jones conducts The Royal Opera’s spellbinding production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute with a wonderful cast, including Roderick Williams as Papageno. Prince Tamino promises the Queen of the Night that he will rescue her daughter Pamina from the enchanter Sarastro. He begins his quest, accompanied by the bird- catcher Papageno - but all is not as it seems… Mozart’s glorious opera is brought enchantingly to life in David McVicar’s production with beautiful sets by John Macfarlane. The audience is transported to a world of dancing animals, flying machines and dazzlingly starry skies. The setting provides a wonderful backdrop for Mozart’s score, from the Queen of the Night’s coloratura fireworks to Tamino and Pamina’s lyrical love duets and Papageno’s hearty, folksong-like arias. Pershore Operatic & Dramatic Society: Rodgers & Hammerstein Singalong After last year’s very successful singalong, Mamma Mia, PODS invite you to come along and sing your favourite Rodgers and Hammerstein songs. What better way to enjoy an evening than to sing such songs as The Sound of Music, Oh, What a Beautiful Morning, There’s Nothing Like a Dame, Whistle a Happy Tune, You’ll Never Walk Alone and many, many more. If you feel inclined, dress up as a character from your favourite musical, most of all come and have fun and a good sing! This event is a Private Hire. Lipstick on Your Collar Step back in time to the golden era of music where the jukebox roared and feet didn't touch the floor. Get your dancing shoes at the ready - you are in for an evening of back to back hits from the 50s and 60s! From the birth of rock ‘n’ roll through to the beat group sounds of the British invasion and beyond, the show is packed with hits from the likes of Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, The Ronettes, Cliff Richard, Cilla Black and many more. RSC Live: Coriolanus Recorded at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-Upon-Avon A full-throttle war play that revels in the sweat of the battlefield, Coriolanus transports us back to the emergence of the republic of Rome. Caius Martius Coriolanus is a fearless soldier but a reluctant leader. His ambitious mother attempts to carve him a path to political power, but he struggles to change his nature and do what is required to achieve greatness. In this new city state struggling to find its feet, where the gap between rich and poor is widening every day, Coriolanus must decide who he really is and where his allegiances lie. Rome Season Director, Angus Jackson, completes the RSC’s collection of Shakespeare’s Roman plays with a visceral production which sees Sope Dirisu take on the title role. The Mercian Regiment: Military Band Concert Compered by TV presenter and army reservist Michael Collie, this military concert from the band of the Mercian Regiment, will feature a programme of music especially selected by the Director of Music for the occasion. It will be the only public performance by the band in Worcestershire in 2017. This performance marks the tenth anniversary of the formation of the regiment when on 1 September 2007 the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters, Cheshires and Staffords came together as a single infantry regiment recruited from the five counties representing the ancient kingdom of Mercia. Exhibition on Screen: Canaletto & the Art of Venice From one of the world’s largest art collections comes the remarkable story of Canaletto and the city he shared with millions through his art. Director Phil Grabsky secured privileged access to craft this cinematic celebration of a 21st century master of creativity. With exclusive access to the highly anticipated exhibition at the Queen’s Gallery, the film opens the doors of London’s Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle and takes cinema audiences through the squares and canals of Venice that Canaletto immortalised through his art. Including expert commentary and insights from curators of the Royal Collection, the film also reveals the intriguing story of how his works came to hold pride of place in the Queen’s own picture gallery. Bolshoi: Le Corsaire Live from the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow Amidst a bustling market, the pirate Conrad falls in love at first sight with the beautiful Medora, the ward of the slave merchant Lankedem’s bazaar. Conrad kidnaps Medora when Lankedem decides to sell her to the Pasha. John Suchet: The Tale of Two Composers - Mozart & Strauss The voice of Classic FM’s weekday mornings, John Suchet presents in person a fascinating and in depth talk on two of the greatest composers the world has known - their music, their lives and their inspiration. The music of the Strauss family encapsulated Vienna and does so to this day, but it hides an extraordinary story. An autocratic father who saw his eldest son eclipse him and become the undisputed Waltz King. Delving into the life of Mozart, the most naturally gifted composer who ever lived, John uncovers the man behind many myths. The Second Best Bed by Avril Rowlands, starring Liz Grand, directed by Chris Jaeger When Shakespeare died, he famously left his wife Anne only one thing - the second best bed. This superb one-woman play, full of both humour and pathos, has received great critical acclaim since its premier at the Swan Theatre Worcester in 2012. Liz Grand stars as Anne Hathaway on the night of Shakespeare’s funeral. Jon Boden - The Afterglow Tour In November 2017 Jon Boden, former lead-singer of Bellowhead, will head out on his Afterglow Album Launch Tour, marking the release of his third solo album - his first new release since leaving Bellowhead in May 2016. In this solo leg of the tour you can enjoy a close-up, intimate performance with Jon showcasing his infectious new material in a stripped-down, high- octane, very personal show. NT Live: Follies Recorded at the National Theatre, London Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical is staged for the first time at the National Theatre and broadcast live to the screen. New York, 1971. Jonas Kaufmann: My Italy Special Concert Film Celebrated German tenor Jonas Kaufmann presents a personal tribute to Italian music and culture. The pictures originated as photographs; however that was only the beginning. Hours or weeks were then taken to create a pleasing image. Foyer Redevelopment Due to work to redevelop our foyer area, our coffee bar and exhibition space will be closed until mid-September. Our programme of films and events will not be disrupted - it will be ‘business as usual’ in the auditorium with access via Box Office, which will be temporarily located in The Courtyard Room, accessed from the rear of the building (through the archway on Broad Street at the side of Just After 8). A limited range of refreshments will be on sale prior to events but customer seating will be somewhat reduced!
