Bay of Plenty Exam # 1

Date: th Saturday 15 October 2016 Venue: Beach SLSC Pool Venue: Mt College Pools Pool Address: Maunganui Rd, Mount Maunganui Time: 9:30am at the Pool

Exam Information: Candidates and Instructors to meet at the pools at 9:15am ready for a 9:30am start, all pool components will be completed before heading to Omanu Surf Club to complete the remainder of the exam. Those siting their Patrol Support award are to meet at the Surf Club at 10:30am where you join the rest of the candidates and complete the remainder of the exam.

- Ensure that all workbooks are completed prior to arrival. - Clubs to provide water safety crew to meet the 1:5 ratio when in the surf.

Patrol Support - Course Overview

The Patrol Support certifies that the holder has the basic skills and knowledge to be a Patrol Support Member. Patrol Support is considered to be an extension to the minimum number of lifeguards required on patrol, as stated in the Patrol Operations Manual. Patrol Support Members must not take part in any water based activities on patrol, such as rescues or preventative actions. These are for surf lifeguards only.

Course Information

Pre-requisites: 14 years of age | Current member of a SLS club

Duration: Variable depending on competence and instruction structure 2-8 weeks

Delivered by: Surf Life Saving club instructors, examined by local examiners

Who should complete it? Anyone interested in becoming a Patrol Support member, any member who is unable to complete the water based requirements of the Surf Lifeguard Award.

Candidate requirements: The Patrol Support member must pass the entire theoretical component of the Surf Lifeguard Award.

The Surf Lifeguard Award certifies that the holder has the basic skills and knowledge to be a Surf Lifeguard. This is the entry level qualification for members to be a patrolling member. The Surf Lifeguard Award is the first step on the Surf Life Saving New Zealand lifeguard pathway and a prerequisite for the IRB Crewpersons Module.

Exam components - 400metre swim in under 9 minutes (Surf Lifeguard Award only) - Tube Rescue (Pool) (Surf Lifeguard Award only) - Theory Paper 80% correct (Surf Lifeguard & Patrol Support Award) - Run-Swim-Run (Surf Lifeguard Award only) - First Aid (Surf Lifeguard & Patrol Support Award) - Releases and Tows (Surf Lifeguard Award only) - Radio (Surf Lifeguard & Patrol Support Award) - Signals (Surf Lifeguard & Patrol Support Award) - CPR (Surf Lifeguard & Patrol Support Award) - Tube Rescue (Surf Lifeguard Award only)
