    Speech By Dr Christian Rowan MEMBER FOR MOGGILL Record of Proceedings, 26 November 2020 ADDRESS-IN-REPLY Dr ROWAN (Moggill—LNP) (3.42 pm): I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which we are meeting and pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging. Mr Deputy Speaker, I also congratulate you on your appointment to high office. It is indeed a great privilege and honour to continue to serve as the state member for Moggill in the 57th Queensland Parliament. I wish to formally place on record my thanks and sincere appreciation to the residents and constituents of the electorate of Moggill for their ongoing trust and support in re-electing me to be their representative in the 57th Parliament. I also wish to acknowledge and thank my wife, Jane, as well as Nicholas, Charley, Angus and Lucie for their support and words of encouragement. I specifically acknowledge my mother-in-law, Wendy Nelson. On 10 July this year, my father-in-law, Parker Nelson, suffered a midbrain stem stroke, with a secondary fractured skull and subarachnoid haemorrhage as a result of a subsequent fall. The following 18 weeks were incredibly difficult and challenging as Parker initially survived a prolonged course in the Royal Brisbane Hospital’s intensive care unit, followed by a subsequent lengthy admission to the stroke unit and rehabilitation ward. It was an incredible shock given that he was only 75 years old and had always been fit, strong and healthy and had always enjoyed an active lifestyle. Unfortunately, Parker died on 14 November 2020 and his funeral was held this week on Tuesday, 24 November 2020.

    Richard Shannon From: Richard Shannon Sent: Wednesday, 12 June 2013 3:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: FW: Proposed Gordonvale Kindergarten Importance: High Dear Andrew, Please find the below response from the Department to your earlier queries originally registered with Clive Dixon, Regional Director, Far North Queensland. • The Department of Education, Training and Employment's kindergarten planning methodology involves an assessment of supply and demand for kindergarten places in a local planning area. • The supply of kindergarten places is estimated from the licensed capacity of existing early childhood education and care services, using a formula agreed with Childcare Queensland. This takes into account total potential places available in early childhood education and care services, regardless of actual utilisation. Population data is derived from the 2011 census. • The kindergarten planning data for the Gordonvale local planning area identified a deficiency of kindergarten places. The local planning area comprised Gordonvale, East Trinity, Goldsborough, Green Hill, Little Mulgrave and Wrights Creek. • The new kindergarten service will provide up to 44 places for kindy-age children in the year before full­ time school (i.e. turn four years by 30 June in the year of enrolment). • The service will provide a kindergarten program for 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (school hours and during school terms) and charge fees for children that enrol. • The service will not be eligible for the Australian Government's child care benefit (CCB) subsidies. • The service will be eligible for subsidies under the Queensland Kindergarten Funding Scheme (QKFS). Families with an Australian Government Health Care Card or equivalent may be eligible for additional subsidies which can make access to a kindergarten program low or no cost.

    Community Support and Services Committee Report No. 1, 57th Parliament Subordinate legislation tabled between 11 August 2020 and 7 September 2020 1 Aim of this report This report summarises the committee’s findings following its examination of the subordinate legislation within its portfolio areas tabled between 11 August 2020 and 7 September 2020. It reports on any issues identified by the committee relating to the policy to be given effect by the legislation, fundamental legislative principles (FLPs) and lawfulness. It also reports on the compliance of the explanatory notes with the Legislative Standards Act 1992 (LSA).1 The report also outlines the committee’s consideration of compliance with the Human Rights Act 2019 (HRA) and the human rights certificate tabled with the subordinate legislation.2 2 Subordinate legislation examined No. Subordinate legislation Date tabled Disallowance date 146 Disability Services (Fees) Amendment Regulation 2020 11 August 2020 24 February 2021 *Disallowance dates are based on proposed sitting dates as advised by the Leader of the House. The human rights certificate tabled with the subordinate legislation, in accordance with section 41 of the HRA, provides a sufficient level of information to facilitate understanding of the subordinate legislation in relation to its compatibility with human rights.3 4 Disability Services (Fees) Amendment Regulation 2020 (SL 146) The Disability Services Act 2006 (the Act) makes provision to protect and promote the rights of people with disability.

    JOINT STATEMENT Premier and Minister for the Arts The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk Minister for Education and Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games The Honourable Kate Jones Premier welcomes direct flights from Shanghai to Brisbane Queensland has become the first Australian state to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with China Eastern Airlines in a landmark agreement set to deliver a $22 million tourism boost for the State, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced today. Ms Palaszczuk said the agreement came off the back of a meeting she had with China Eastern during her trade trip in China last month. Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Kate Jones, signed the MOU in China overnight. Ms Palaszczuk said the agreement secured a new, year­round Shanghai­Brisbane direct service which will commence in November 2016 with three flights each week. “This new service is a win for tourism, bringing approximately 36,500 additional travellers and generating more than $22 million for the economy each year,” she said. “It comes in addition to a seasonal China Eastern service between Shanghai and Cairns providing access for up to 13,000 visitors each year to Tropical North Queensland, the state’s northern gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.” Minister Jones said the development underlined the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to growing the Asian visitor market. “Chinese travellers represent Queensland’s largest international visitor market by expenditure, spending more than $833 million in the year to June 2015, an increase of 43% on the last financial year,” she said. “Queensland attracted 360,000 visitors from mainland China in 2014­15 and Tourism Research Australia forecasts China will overtake New Zealand as Australia’s dominant tourism market within five years.
