Drawing on relevant scenes from the series as well as real science, Noor presents evidence for the existence of a common ancestor for life on Earth, and clarifies misconceptions about evolutionary biology. Come see which of the hypotheses is the most feasible, and learn a lot of evolution in the process!

3:00 PM 3:45 PM Angelique Pettyjohn: A Life in Pictures by John L. Flynn, Ph. D Angelique Pettyjohn (1943-1992) was groomed and pampered to be the next Marilyn Monroe by the studio system. But on her way to stardom, she took a slight detour through the final frontier and became an icon in her own right, beloved by millions of fans worldwide. This is the incredible, true-life story of The Sci-Fi Siren (2020) who dared to love Elvis Presley and give the King of Rock-n- Roll his one and only son. Pettyjohn guest-starred on “Star Trek” as Shahna, and taught Captain Kirk how to kiss alien women. She outsmarted Secret Agent Maxwell Smart with her outrageous disguise as Charlie Watkins, spied on the Girl from U.N.C.L.E., came between tv's & Robin, put the sting back in the Green Hornet, showed partner Bruce Lee (as Kato) a few fast moves, headlined a bunch of sci-fi movies as an unforgettably sexy siren, was picked up as a hooker on the top-rated , and proved that women over 40 were shagadelic, baby! She was also a Las Vegas Showgirl, exotic dancer, model, femme fatales, scream queen, comedian, Playboy pin-up, suburban house-wife, and friend. During her thirty-year career in show business, Angelique Pettyjohn always lit up the stage or screen with her splashy personality and sexy good looks in over 40 movies, twelve television series, and twenty Las Vegas shows. Author John Flynn who befriended her at a Star Trek Creation Convention in 1982 wrote her biography and shares highlights from her life’s story on stage, screen, and “Star Trek.”

You don't want to miss this celebration of the best moments in Trek history as we look back at what we love about our favorite franchise.

11:45 AM 12:30 PM From the “Stoop” to the Stars: My Trek, The early Years of Space and Star Trek - An inspirational Journey. Mario Runco Jr, Astronaut

22 In the early 1950’s the Cold War was in its nascent stages. Then in 1957, when Sputnik was launched by the Soviet Union, the Cold War heated up and touched off the Space Race. Millions of eyes around the planet looked heavenward, some for the first time, to get a glimpse of the new celestial moon and in doing so, many people also wondered what else was out there beyond the stars. As a young boy swept up in the excitement, Mario also turned his eyes skyward. Indeed, he would lie out on the beach on the south shore of Long Island on summer nights looking up in wonderment at the vastness of space, and decided at an early age to hopefully one day make a voyage to the stars… but he really never knew if that would ever be possible. In the interim he sought out in the world of science and science fiction what a voyage to the stars might be like. Science fiction in film, though, was considered at the time to be a genre for children and was treated as such by filmmakers, with a few seminal exceptions. Then in 1966, enter Star Trek. It at last offered those with the dream - ongoing vicarious journeys to the stars that were intelligent and hopeful, which only strengthened his dream to boldly go where no man has gone before. This is Mario’s story: The unlikely journey of the son of Depression-era Italian immigrants from his growing up on the streets and “stoops” of The Bronx during the early days of the Cold War to his three missions on the Space Shuttle. Q&A will follow, where Mario will give “the straight skinny” on what it’s like to fly in space.

12:30 PM 1:15 PM Voyager at 25(+1) with Rick Sternbach An Archeological Dig into the Ships, Shuttlecraft and Props of Star Trek Voyager For seven seasons beginning in 1995, Rick Sternbach contributed designs for starships, engineering devices, medical equipment, and weaponry seen on Star Trek Voyager. While many familiar bits of Starfleet hardware received updated looks, the U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 was new from her keel up, beginning with stacks of sketches and two rounds of blueprints, to reach the final result of a highly detailed five foot filming miniature. Joining in Voyager's stories were additional physical models and computer generated ships like the Delta Flyer, the Equinox, the Prometheus, and Jupiter Station. The alien civilizations Voyager encountered all required designs with unique styles, including the Hirogen, the Voth, the Malon, and the Markonians. Starfleet and alien props were translated from pen and ink drawings to resin and metal and paint. And along the way, some distinctly non-technical art got done, like a Klingon serpent and some reptile eggs. All part of the fun.

Rick will be signing autographs on a complimentary basis as time allows immediately following this panel in the Kelley Theatre.

1:15 PM 2:00 PM Navigating Academic Studies as a Scholar and Fan of Genre Join Dr. Sherry Ginn as she and two colleagues discuss the trials of being a fan of science fiction while also being a scholar who studies the genre. Walking a fine line between the two can be problematic. Many fans do not consider those who study their favorite show to be a “good” fan and scholars can sometimes be dismissive of fans’ passion for their favorite series. In addition, scholars have to walk a fine line within their academic disciplines because genre studies, and in particular science fiction, are too often viewed as a “hobby” and not worth rigorous research. Come ready to chop it up!
