Hockey Hall of Fame Announces New Appointments and 2011 Induction Date HOCKEY HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES NEW APPOINTMENTS AND 2011 INDUCTION DATE TORONTO (March 31, 2011) ­­ Bill Hay, Chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame, announced today that the following new appointments were confirmed at the Annual General Meeting of the Members held yesterday in Toronto. • Igor Larionov (Honoured Member, Class of 2008) appointed as a new member of the Selection Committee for a three­year term expiring March 31, 2014. • Colin Campbell, Jim Gregory, John Davidson, Pat Quinn and Serge Savard each re­ appointed to the Selection Committee for a further three­year term expiring March 31, 2014. • Councillor Shelley Carroll (City of Toronto, Ward 33, Don Valley East), Donald M. Fehr (Executive Director, National Hockey League Players’ Association), and Bob Nicholson (President, Hockey Canada), each elected as new members of the Board of Directors. The Selection Committee will meet in Toronto on June 27 & 28, 2011 to consider duly nominated candidates for the 2011 Induction Celebration scheduled on Monday, November 14 th . __________________ Established in 1943, the Hockey Hall of Fame’s (“HHOF”) mandate is to recognize and honour the achievements of individuals who bring special distinction to the game of hockey, and to collect, preserve, research and exhibit objects, images and resource materials connected with the game as it is played in Canada and throughout the world. As a non­profit corporation and a registered charity under the Income Tax Act, HHOF owns and operates a museum and place of entertainment offering state­of­the­art exhibits, multimedia presentations and educational programming from its premises at Brookfield Place, Toronto, Canada. He now leads the League with 20-49—69 at the midpoint of Tampa Bay’s season, marking the 53rd instance in NHL history of a player accumulating at least 69 points through 41 team games. This marks the eighth occurrence since 1993-94. * Kucherov is the second player this season to record multiple points in seven consecutive team games, joining Toronto’s Auston Matthews (10-6—16 in 7 GP from Oct. 3-15). The only other player in Tampa Bay history to achieve the feat is Vincent Lecavalier, who had multiple points in eight straight contests from Nov. 3-19, 2007 (7-14—21) - also the NHL’s last such run longer than seven games. * Kucherov has collected at least four points three times in his past five outings. Only three others have achieved that feat since 1996-97: Mario Lemieux in 1996-97 and 2001-02, Jaromir Jagr in 1998-99 and Nisse Ekman in 2005-06. * The 25-year-old has scored a goal in eight of his past nine outings, including an active five- game goal streak, to hit 20 goals for the fifth consecutive season.

  • Guy Lapointe
    Guy Lapointe Guy was a member of a triumvirate of defensemen the likes of which will never exist on one team again – with Larry Robinson and Serge Savard. All 3 are members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Guy made the Montreal Canadiens to stay, after a few games with the big club the two previous seasons, in 1970-71. He won the Stanley Cup that first season. After only his second season in the league, he was named to Team Canada in 1972 to play in the Summit Series versus the USSR. Guy played in 7 of the 8 series games. He won the cup for the second time in the 1972-73 season and then captured 4 more cups with the Habs’ dynasty that dominated the league from 1975-76 to 1978-79. Guy was big and strong enough to play a solid defensive game. But he was also wildly talented offensively –witness his 76 points in 77 games in 1976-77 and is 28 goals in 1975-76, all as a defenseman, of course. And he had 3 consecutive seasons of 20+ goals. In 1981-82, the Habs traded Guy to the St. Louis Blues where he played for a season and a half before ending his career with a final season with the Boston Bruins. Guy was known to keep his team loose with his practical jokes and sense of humour. Guy was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.
