Guy Lapointe Guy was a member of a triumvirate of defensemen the likes of which will never exist on one team again – with Larry Robinson and Serge Savard. All 3 are members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Guy made the Montreal Canadiens to stay, after a few games with the big club the two previous seasons, in 1970-71. He won the Stanley Cup that first season. After only his second season in the league, he was named to Team Canada in 1972 to play in the Summit Series versus the USSR. Guy played in 7 of the 8 series games. He won the cup for the second time in the 1972-73 season and then captured 4 more cups with the Habs’ dynasty that dominated the league from 1975-76 to 1978-79. Guy was big and strong enough to play a solid defensive game. But he was also wildly talented offensively –witness his 76 points in 77 games in 1976-77 and is 28 goals in 1975-76, all as a defenseman, of course. And he had 3 consecutive seasons of 20+ goals. In 1981-82, the Habs traded Guy to the St. Louis Blues where he played for a season and a half before ending his career with a final season with the Boston Bruins. Guy was known to keep his team loose with his practical jokes and sense of humour. Guy was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993. He was a First Team All Star in 1973 and a Second Team All Star in 1975, 1976 and 1977. He also played in 4 all-star games. Sports Celebrity Marketing S.C.M. THE KNOWLEDGE PROJECT #49 Brent Gilchrist fs.blog My guest today is former professional hockey player Brent Gilchrist. Brent spent 15 years in the NHL, playing 792 games with the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, and Nashville Predators. He won a Stanley Cup with the Red Wings in 1998. In his post-playing career, he has become a mining executive with JDS Energy & Mining. In this conversation, we explore what it’s like to play in the NHL, and the habits that allowed him to have such a long playing career. We talk about the difference between good coaches and bad coaches. We also talk about how he transitioned from hockey to investing, and then venture capital and mining. My first year in the NHL I played with the Montreal Canadiens, and we had a great team. We finished second that year in the standings, and in 1989, we ended up playing the Calgary Flames in the Stanley Cup final. And we lost in six games, obviously really devastating, but as a 21-year-old kid, to play in a Stanley Cup final your first year.... And one story I remember—after we eliminated Philadelphia in the Spectrum in the conference final, I remember sitting next to Bob Gainey on the bus ride from the Spectrum to the airport.

SEASON LIKE NO OTHER ENDS WITH LIGHTNING LIFTING STANLEY CUP Nearly a full year after the opening face-off of the 2019-20 campaign and more than six months after the League hit “pause” on the regular season, the Tampa Bay Lightning won Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final to claim their second championship. * The clinching victory came 363 days after the puck dropped on the regular season, 201 days after the pause began and 65 days after players entered “Bubbles” in Edmonton and Toronto for a postseason unlike any other in League history. * The Lightning opened their 27th season with a victory against the intrastate rival Panthers on Oct. 3, 2019, and concluded it by hoisting the Cup to avenge one of the most monumental upsets in League history. After matching the single-season NHL record for wins in 2018-19, the Lightning were swept by the Blue Jackets in the First Round. * Tampa Bay became the third team in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup after being swept in a best-of-seven series during the opening round of the previous postseason, joining the 1967 Maple Leafs and 1961 Black Hawks. * The Lightning are the first franchise to join the League in the 1990s or later and win the Stanley Cup multiple times, though the trophy presentation looked quite different this time around. Former captain Dave Andreychuk accepted the team’s first Cup on June 7, 2004 after Game 7 against the Calgary Flames in front of a crowd of 22,717 at St. Pete Times Forum, while current captain Steven Stamkos accepted the trophy alongside the entire team at center ice at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Bob Nystrom of New York Islan ders might have thought the old law about things that go up must come down had been sus pended. His game-winning overtime goal against New York Ran gers came on a strange play in which he and Rangers goalie John Davidson collided in a race for the puck and it squirted high in the air behind the out-of-position netminder about 40 feet out of the goal. "I was just standing there, waiting for it to come down,” Nystrom said afterwards. "When it came down, I pushed it in the net." But the wait seemed endless, both for Nystrom and the 17,374 fans in Madison Square Garden. Nystrom’s goal, at 3:40 of the extra period, tied the best- ofseven National Hockey League semi-final series at two games each. The Islanders had led 2-1 early in the third period on goals by John Tonelli and Billy Harris, before Don Maloney tied it for the Rangers with his second goal of the night. The winner came after Maloney blasted a shot from the point that caromed around the Islanders’ net. Clarke Gil lies picked up the puck at the blue line after a brief duel with defenceman Mario Marois and rapped it towards Nystrom, who was cruising through centre ice. Davidson said his natural impulse was to charge for the puck.
