NBA SWOT Analysis Full Sail Mingda Zhong NBA SWOT Analysis NBA SWOT Analysis Full Sail Mingda Zhong NBA SWOT Analysis SWOT ANLYSIS OF NBA Strength 1 Huge fan base in USA. 2 Huge fan base in China. 3 Excellent broadcasting. 4 High quality organization. 5 Enormous influence in sports market. Weaknesses 1. Some scandals happened and exist. 2. The price of tickets is a little bit expensive. 3. Lack of equality between big market teams and small market teams. Opportunities 1. Cooperating with international teams and attract more good players from Europe and Asia to bring more fans. 2. Establishing new rules to help small market teams with retaining their star players and attract more fans to attend the game. Treats 1. Strong competitors (NHL, MLB, MLS, NCAA) 2. Other entertainment choices NBA SWOT Analysis Strength There are a lot of people are following NBA. On the social media such as Facebook and Instagram, there are 7.4 million people are following Warriors on Instagram and 17.8 million people are following Stephen Curry. This large amount of data can indicate that NBA are quite popular right now. Chinese market becomes more and more important because Chinese has a large population which means there are a lot of Chinese customers can afford NBA products. Fortunately, NBA is a much more popular league than NHL, MLB and MLS in China. Excellent broadcasting is also a strength of NBA. NBA can provide high quality video and broadcasting to fans for watching their game on TV and phones. Videos which NBA produces are available in high definition. Weaknesses NBA’s scandals might make fans unhappy. For example, “Tim Donaghy was an NBA referee for 13 years before resigning in 2007 amid a betting scandal that rocked the sport and tarnished the league’s reputation. He served 13 months in federal prison after admitting to taking money from a professional gambler in exchange for inside information on NBA operations – including games he refereed – but maintains his characterization as a “rogue, isolated criminal” was a damage-control tactic meant to conceal problems more widespread and insidious.” (TheGuardian, Ashley) These scandals will cause for discontent and lead the fans leaving. Furthermore, the price of ticket of NBA games is a little bit expensive. This might be one reason that the attendance rate is not high. Another reason of low attendance rate is because of the small market. Opportunities There are a few Asian players in NBA right now. However, importing Asian players is a good way to grow more fans to watch NBA. Yao Ming attracts a lot of Chinese fans to start watching NBA and expand the Chinese market. This will benefit NBA market a lot because Asia has an immense fan base of basketball. NBA SWOT Analysis NBA can also establish new rules to reduce the disparity between each teams. Every team becomes competitive can help NBA with becoming more attractive. Treats NHL, MLB, MLS and NCAA share a lot of market shares from NBA. The competitors are big treats for NBA. Although the schedule of each league is separate, there are also some games are coincidence. Other entertainment options are also treats for NBA such as concerts, TV programs and shows. Summary NBA has a huge fan base than the other competitors in Chinese market and NBA also provides good videos and services for fans to enjoy the game. However, there are some scandals might affect NBA to develop badly. Importing more Asian players will be a good chance for NBA to expand. There are also strong competitors and other entertainment choices are treats for NBA. Reference: Groves, R. (2015, December 13). (History, Scott.J) The BAA incorporated in 1946, challenging the hegemony of the nine-year old NBL. The BAA established itself in bigger cities than the NBL, which existed only in small Midwestern cities like Fort Wayne, Sheboygan and Akron. While the NBL held its games in small gymnasiums, the upstart BAA played its games in large major-market arenas such as the Boston Garden and New York City’s Madison Square Garden. By the 1948-49 season, the BAA had begun to attract some of the country’s best players, and four NBL franchises–Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Rochester–moved to the BAA, bringing their star players with them. George Mikan, the biggest attraction in either league who by himself could virtually assure a team’s success, defected to the new league with the Minneapolis Lakers. (History, Scott J) On August 3, 1949, representatives from the two leagues met at the BAA offices in New York’s Empire State Building to finalize the merger. Maurice Podoloff, head of the BAA since its inception, was elected head of the new league. The new NBA was made up of 17 teams that represented both small towns and large cities across the country. Through the 1950s, though, the number of teams dwindled, along with fan support, and by the 1954-55 season, only eight teams remained. That year, the league transformed the game with the creation of the 24- second clock, making play faster-paced and more fun to watch. Fans returned, and the league, now financially solvent, expanded throughout the 1960s and 70s. Today, the NBA has 30 franchises and attracts players—and millions of fans—from countries around the world. (History Scott J) Potential Sponsor TV/Media partners of NBA will be a good option for potential sponsors. First of all, there are a lot of people watch NBA and sponsors can let a lot of people get to know their products. Secondly, it will be a good chance to cooperate with NBA because NBA can provide not only TV/Media advertisements, but also commercials during the game. For instance, if NBA SWOT Analysis McDonald’s is a sponsor of NBA. They can play advertisements on broadcasting and they can also build McDonald’s in the studio like concessions. Therefore, NBA can provide a lot of ways for potential sponsors to be more and more well-known. Portfolio Mingda Zhong has abilities of doing researches to get to know what fans need and increase the user experience for fans who attend the game. His target audience is the seasonal tickets holders of the basketball club and fans who are willing to buy the ticket to attend the game. He has passion for helping the team with providing better experience for people who attend the game. He can use the sharp sensitive research ability to help the team with increasing their fans’ user experience. The position I can apply by my abilities will be customer service manager. .

Eventually, they had achieved to get the pension plan that they hoped for many years. Larry Fleisher, the general counsel of the NBPA, and Oscar Robertson, the president of the NBPA, were determined to abolish the reserve clause in basketball. The reserve clause restrained the free movement of professional athletes for many years, and NBA players were the ones who established staunch struggle against it, in various ways, including litigation. The NBPA filed a class-action lawsuit, also known as the Oscar Robertson lawsuit, against the merger between two basketball leagues, the NBA, and the ABA (American Basketball Association) in April 1970.

INTRODUCTION In the past two seasons,' National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner David Stem has used some of his expansive authority in implementing a variety of rules designed to clean up the games, the players, and the image of the NBA. These rules include instituting a dress code for players2 and various uniform requirements, using a new synthetic basketball, prohibiting players from attending certain nightclubs, and introducing a "point of emphasis" that players will be called for technical fouls for excessive complaining. Stem has implemented such rules under the auspices of the amount of authority he has been given in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the league and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and in the NBA Constitution. However, the NBPA has begun to express its disagreement with Stem's free flow of new rules and, in the future, may take action against these or other newly formulated rules.
