University Rewa (M.P.) 486001India Abstract: In early India, people handcrafted jewellery out of natural materials found in abundance all over the country. Seeds, feathers, leaves, berries, fruits, flowers, animal bones, claws and teeth; everything from nature was affectionately gathered and artistically transformed into fine body jewellery. Even today such jewellery is used by the different tribal societies in India. It appears that both men and women of that time wore jewellery made of gold, silver, copper, ivory and precious and semi-precious stones.Jewelry made by India's tribes is attractive in its rustic and earthy way. Using materials available in the local area, it is crafted with the help of primitive tools. The appeal of tribal jewelry lies in its chunky, unrefined appearance. Tribal Jewelry is made by indigenous tribal artisans using local materials to create objects of adornment that contain significant cultural meaning for the wearer. Keywords: Tribal ornaments, Tribal culture, Tribal population , Adornment, Amulets, Practical and Functional uses. I. Introduction Tribal Jewelry is primarily intended to be worn as a form of beautiful adornment also acknowledged as a repository for wealth since antiquity. The tribal people are a heritage to the Indian land. Each tribe has kept its unique style of jewelry intact even now. The original format of jewelry design has been preserved by ethnic tribal. -

171 1THE CONSTITUTION (SCHEDULED TRIBES) ORDER, 1950 C.O. 22 In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 342 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Governors and Rajpramukhs of the States concerned, is pleased to make the following Order, namely:-- 1. This Order may be called the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950. 2. The Tribes or tribal communities, or parts of, or groups within, tribes or tribal communities, specified in 2[Parts I to 3[XXII] of the Schedule to this Order shall, in relation to the States to which those Parts respectively relate, be deemed to be Scheduled Tribes so far as regards members thereof residents in the localities specified in relation to them respectively in those Parts of that Schedule. 4[3. WAGDI Sibasis Mukherjee 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 FAMILY AFFILIATION Wagdi is a language of the Central Group of the Indo-Aryan language family having a good number of mother tongues grouped under it. The language is named after the name of the Scheduled tribe in Rajasthan state, namely Bhil, Bhil Garasia, Dholi Bhil, Dungri Bhil, Dungri Garasia, Mewasi Bhil, Rawal Bhil, Tadvi Bhil, Bhagalia, Bhilala, Pawra, Vasava, Vasave etc. However, there are also other tribal communities available in Rajasthan state like Bhil Mina, Mina, Damor, Kathodi etc., Kokna etc., Koli Dhor, Naikda etc., Patelia, Seharia etc. The term ‘Bhil’ is supposed to refer to a Dravidian word ‘Bhilli’ meaning ‘Bow’ which is the characteristic weapon of the tribe. A Sanskrit name ‘Bhid’ meaning ‘pierce’, ‘shoot and kill’, also is connected to their name with reference to their proficiency in archery. Wagdi is one of the Non-Scheduled languages spoken in India. As a linguistic community Wagdi is majorly concentrated in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra as per the latest Census publication, i.e. 2001. The present study has been conducted in Rajasthan state under Linguistic Survey of India – Rajasthan Scheme. The informants located in Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur were identified by the Competent Authority of Rajasthan State for collection of elicited data. Accordingly, the informants named Shri. Babu Bhil (from maDa village, Dungarpur) and Shri. Devo Bhil (from Banswara) were contacted for field data collection. As per the information of the above informants the Bhili speakers in the region like to identify themselves as Wagdi speakers. Hence the present report gives a description of the Wagdi variety of Bhili under the title Wagdi. -

1 TO BE INTRODUCED IN LOK SABHA Bill No. 3 of 2008 THE CONSTITUTION (SCHEDULED TRIBES) ORDERS (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2008 By SHRI HARIBHAU RATHOD, M.P. A BILL further to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) (Uttar Pradesh) Order, 1967. BE it enacted by Parliament in the Fifty-ninth Year of the Republic of India as follows:— 1. This Act may be called the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Short title. Act, 2008. C.O. 22 5 2. In the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, in the Schedule, in Amendment Part XIII—Rajasthan, the entries 1 to 12 shall be renumbered as entries 2 to 13, respectively, of the Constitution and before entry 2 as so renumbered, the following entry shall be inserted, namely:— (Scheduled "1. Banjara.". Tribes) Order, 1950. 2 Amendment 3. In the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) (Uttar Pradesh) Order, 1967, in the Schedule, C.O. 78 of the the entries 1 to 15 shall be renumbered as entries 2 to 16, respectively, and before entry 2 Constitution as so renumbered, the following entry shall be inserted, namely:— (Scheduled Tribes) (Uttar "1. Banjara.". Pradesh) Order, 1967. STATEMENT OF OBJECTS AND REASONS Even after sixty years of Independence, the community known as Banjaras are still one of the most backward communities in the country. The condition of Banjaras is worse than even the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Most of them are destitute. They have no permanent settlement. Our country has progressed much in every field, but unfortunately Banjaras are still deprived of the benefits of development. -

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA TRIBAL AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO:221 ANSWERED ON:17.07.2017 Tribal Population Dwivedi Shri Harish Will the Minister of TRIBAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the details of total tribal population in the country at present, tribe-wise and State/UT-wise including Uttar Pradesh along with the percentage of tribal population to the total population in each State/UT; and (b) the criteria and procedure being followed for inclusion/exclusion from/for carrying out other modifications in Scheduled Tribes (STs) List? Answer MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS (SHRI JASWANTSINH BHABHOR) (a):As per Census 2011, total Scheduled Tribe (ST) population in the country is 10.45 crore. Details of ST population, tribe-wise and State / UT wise,including Uttar Pradesh,and percentage of ST population to the total population in each State / UT are given at Annexure. (b): The criteria being followed for specification of acommunity as a Scheduled Tribe are: (i) indications of primitive traits, (ii) distinctive culture, (iii) geographical isolation, (iv) shyness of contact with community at large, and (v) backwardness. The Government of India on 15-6-1999 (further amended on 25-6-2002), has laid down the modalities for determining the claims for inclusion in, exclusion from and other modifications in the Orders specifying the lists for Scheduled Tribes. According to these modalities, only those proposals which have been recommended and justified by the concerned State Government/Union Territory Administration and concurred in by the Registrar General of India (RGI) and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) are to be considered for amendment of legislation. -

NISHIKANT DUBEY: Will the Minister of TRIBAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the details of the tribal communities in different parts of the country and the number of these accorded Scheduled Tribe status, State/UT-wise including Jharkhand; (b) the details of tribal communities demanding to get tribal status, State/UT-wise; and (c) the steps taken by the Government address this issue? ANSWER MINISTER OF TRIBAL AFFAIRS (SHRI ARJUN MUNDA) (a) & (b) Ministry of Tribal Affairs is nodal Ministry for specification of a community as Scheduled Tribes (ST) under Article 342 of Constitution of India. There are over 700 Scheduled Tribes notified under Article 342 of the Constitution of India, spread over different States and Union Territories of the country. Many tribes are present in more than one State. A list of State/UT wise Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities are placed at Annexure-I. A Statement of State/UT wise proposal for inclusion of communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes is placed at Annexure-II. (c) The Government of India on 15.6.1999 (further amended on 25.6.2002) has laid down the modalities for deciding the claims for inclusion in, exclusion from and other modifications in Orders specifying Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes lists. As per the modalities, only those proposals which have been recommended and justified by the concerned State Government / UT Administration and concurred with by Registrar General of India (RGI) and National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) are to be considered and legislation amended. -

Kholkute Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Belgaum, India Received July 1, 2014 The south Indian State of Karnataka, once part of several kingdoms and princely states of repute in the Deccan peninsula, is rich in its historic, cultural and anthropological heritage. The State is the home to 42,48,987 tribal people, of whom 50,870 belong to the primitive group. Although these people represent only 6.95 per cent of the population of the State, there are as many as 50 different tribes notified by the Government of India, living in Karnataka, of which 14 tribes including two primitive ones, are primarily natives of this State. Extreme poverty and neglect over generations have left them in poor state of health and nutrition. Unfortunately, despite efforts from the Government and non-Governmental organizations alike, literature that is available to assess the state of health of these tribes of the region remains scanty. It is however, interesting to note that most of these tribes who had been original natives of the forests of the Western Ghats have been privy to an enormous amount of knowledge about various medicinal plants and their use in traditional/folklore medicine and these practices have been the subject matter of various scientific studies. This article is an attempt to list and map the various tribes of the State of Karnataka and review the studies carried out on the health of these ethnic groups, and the information obtained about the traditional health practices from these people.
