- Brennan Welsh Great Reads during Coronacation

Little Women Louisa May Alcott The classic novel follows the lives of four sisters---Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March. The novel, which was pub- lished in 1880, was ahead of its time because it was a children's novel that addressed themes like domesticity, work, and true love which were not found in other children's novels during the late 1800s. This over 700 page novel is sure to last all of quarantine.

Rediscover Jesus Matthew Kelly Rediscover Jesus is an invitation to seek answers for our deeply personal questions. Every chapter, page, and sentence reaches into an aspect of our lives. As a Lenten devotional, it offers insight into a Jesus that some of us may not know. In a time when the world seems as if it is ending, Rediscover Jesus will reassure you that God is in control.

The Greatest Player Who Never Lived Michael Veron (SLCHS 2019 Hall of Fame inductee and Landry graduate) A dual golf and mystery novel, it tells the story of Charley Hunter who uses his passion for golf to help solve a decades-old murder case. A knowledge of golf history is not required because the novel includes multitudes of fascinating stories about the legends of the game and how much respect they had for it. 3 Top 10 Streaming Services

With streaming services on the rise today, it's hard to know which ones you can trust to have interesting, new content so the Trumpet Staff has decided to narrow the selection down to our top ten! 1. Minnow Minnow serves as the ultimate streaming service, allowing you access to all of the best streaming services in one place. With such a diverse platform and 19,700 movies and TV shows to choose from and 4.7 stars on the app store, it's clear why this app has won first place. 2. Disney + As a generation raised on Disney, a streaming service based solely on their movies is practically sur- real! With over 100 titles and 0 ads, even adding their movies that were supposed to premiere in theaters upon the pandemic's arrival, Disney plus has a solid grip on second place. 3. Netflix This app is an endless goldmine for any movie lovers looking for something to watch. Why is Netflix in third place though? Although they may have more titles than we can count and a revolving door of new content, the door doesn't turn fast enough. Their supply of movies becomes stagnant and they rely on their Netflix Originals to keep people entertained instead of pulling in new interesting content at a decent rate. 4. Hulu Hulu is a very diverse streaming platform that allows you to watch live sports, 85,000 series epi- sodes, Hulu Originals, and over 60 channels all in the palm of your hands, completely ad free! 5. Boomerang Boomerang is the hub of all of those childhood cartoons that shaped our generation such as Yogi Bear, Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Johnny Quest, Bugs Bunny, Scooby Doo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and more! 6. HBO NOW This streaming service allows you to stream HBO's live and movies! With Consistent new content and interesting titles ranging from The Outsider to The New Pope, there's no doubt why they have made our list! 7. Nick That's right, you heard it here first! officially has their own streaming service! Including titles such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Power Rangers, and Dude perfect, their content is the recipe for nostalgia. 8. The CW The CW app allows you to stream all of the top, action packed tv shows before they hit Netflix such as Flash, Super Girl, Dynasty, and Riverdale. 9. App This app allows you to see all of Cartoon Network's latest shows the day after they air, with titles ranging from Adventure time to Power Puff girls, Cartoon Network has a solid grip on 9th place. 10. FOX NOW Fox Now is an online streaming app with a variety of content ranging from The Masked Singer to Empire, but it's lack of consistency in content leaves this service in 10th place.

4 Surviving Social Distancing

In today's busy world, students rely very heavily on their time in school in order to socialize, but with the CoVid-19 pandemic sweeping the country and closing schools all around the world, you people are having to search for new ways to keep in touch with their friends. Although the core social medias, In- stagram, Snapchat, and , are very reliable ways to stay in contact, it's always fun to try some- thing new and to experiment with more interesting forms or communication so we've compiled a list of some of the coolest social media platforms we've found on the Appstore.

1. House Party House Party is an application can be found in any app store, including apple and android, and was created to allow you to facetime with as many of your friends at one time as you would like and lets you jump from group to group and alerts you when your friends enter the app, or as they say, "in the house." 2. Netflixparty.com Netflixparty.com is a website that allows you to sync your Netflix stream with your friends and opens a groupchat screen that will allow you to talk and binge at the same time! The only downside to using this website is that this software is only available over Chrome Browsers on desktop or laptop computers. 3. Trivia Crack Trivia Crack, a Trivia app that allows you to play your friends or random online opponents, is an older app, but a diamond in the rough none the less. This app is perfect for the com- petitive friend groups who normally spend their time together and will allow you to prove who's the most intelligent once and for all! 4. Mixer Mixer is an interactive streaming service found in the app store that allows gamers to ei- ther stream their own gaming experience or watch another's. This Microsoft creation has 4.7 stars and claims to have "Faster Than Light" streaming technology. 5. Airtime Airtime, much like Netflix Party, allows users to stream Youtube videos at the same time, but instead of a group chat screen, you can facetime with your friends! This app has 4.4 stars on the app store and is rated #13 for entertainment. 6. Microsoft Teams For the academic groups in your life, Microsoft has produced a new application that allows you to vid- eo chat, group text, save files, and make schedules all in one place! Using this you could set up google groups with your individual classes so that you can receive help from your peers, keep up with due dates, and have group discussions all in one place!

5 Staying Productive During Remote Learning

Many students refer to the cancellation of school as “Coronacation,” or an elongated spring break. The truth is staying home to do work from school is simply a change in the learning environment. While one isn’t working in a classroom setting, it can be difficult to concentrate and find ways to keep oneself focused on schoolwork. If you’re anything like me, it’s all play and hardly any work. However, this leads to a buildup of stress as one may struggle to get all their work finished at the last minute. From one procrastinator to an- other, here are some healthy ways to stay productive while enjoying the ‘break’ from school. 1. Make a Daily Routine: From developing healthy sleeping habits, to sticking to eating meals at cer- tain times, to outlining your day, a routine is one of the most beneficial tips I can give for becom- ing and staying productive during your days at home. A routine can aid with adjusting to change, reducing stress levels, while also helping one develop healthy habits1 . If you enjoy doodling, a fun way to outline your routine could be through making a colorful paper outline. Even making a sim- ple list of things you need to accomplish each day would be beneficial and help you maximize productivity. 2. Set Aside Time for the Fun Stuff: While all play and no work isn’t exactly a productive mindset, you don’t want to necessarily stick to only working- life is all about finding a healthy balance, and the same applies here. It’s easy to only want to focus on the fun things, but if you set a routine for yourself, include time to relax and discover new hobbies. 3. Identify and Limit Your Distractions: We all hate to admit that our elders are right, but they are absolutely correct in saying that phones are largely distracting. Most of us leave our ringers on and pick up the phone anytime we get a notification; however, as science proves, the brain isn’t physi- cally able to multitask, so instead we rapidly switch from one action to another2. Attempting to multitask can decrease our attentiveness and learning skills, so avoid picking up the phone every time it rings2! Music can also be a really big distractor, so turn it off from time to time and discover which learning environment helps you focus. 4. Find Creative Ways to Organize Your Schoolwork: Often times, it’s very beneficial to read and as- sess all of your schoolwork before beginning so you can prioritize your workload. I’ve found that a very useful app you can use on your computer to help with this is myHomeworkapp.com. MyHomework allows you to organize assignments by class and allows you to put due dates on tasks. These later appear on a calendar on the app which lets you see what is due and when its due. This is one way to organize the school load in a very easy way, and I would highly recom- mend!! 5. Be Sure to Take Breaks: Allow yourself time to relax and regroup. Taking breaks not only alleviates stress, but helps you refocus on things you need to accomplish. Remember that everyone is working through the change of online school, and the best way to get things done is to simply start! 1 Sources: 2 https://www.blurtitout.org/2018/11/08/mental-health-benefits-routine/ https://health.clevelandclinic.org/science-clear-multitasking-doesnt-work/ - Isabel Istre
