by SuperFlash101 We’ve all been waiting for the exciting new Christmas special, “Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation!”, and it’s finally come. Just last week, it aired on Disney XD and , and, for the first time ever, on ABC Family in a couple of days (at least at the time I’m writing this).

So did it live up to the hype? Was it the Christmas classic we were waiting for? Let's find out.

I, honestly, was mixed about it, but still felt it was pretty awesome. Let’s start Phineas tries to do the “It Was All with some of the pros. The visuals, for one, were just phenomenal. The bright a Dream” bit with failing results. I colors and vibrant character designs were at their peak. The animation with all loved the new winter clothing design the snow, with all the action scenes, were amazing. The design for the the artists did for the characters. character’s winter clothing was top-knotch. All the layout artists, character animators, character designers, and of course colorists, were experiencing the highest moment of their career on the show. Plus, there was the stellar voice performance and amazing songs. Each actor and actress served up deliciously rich perform- ances for their characters and really treated them with great care despite it being a special. My favorite song, of course, was Doofenshmirtz’s I Really Don’t Hate Christmas; his songs are always the best ones of the episode, and, while I wasn’t very interested in the other songs very much, I did feel that they were greatly delivered and really felt like a Christmas tune. But that brings me to what mixed me: the writing. If this was a normal episode, I would have been rather bored and feel that the episode was lacking. But it wasn’t a normal episode; it was a Christmas special. Therefore, it had some warm, sticky-sweet writing signature of Christmas specials. The kind of “this time of year is the greatest” thing that we see a lot, but we’ve grown to love and actually expect.

I was at times slipping from the fact that it wasn’t a normal episode, but really, I truly began to understanding it was a special and looked at it from a different There’s a sticky, warm feeling to point of view: this is a Christmas special, and is therefore written like a Christ- the episode, stereotypical of mas special, but what helps it stand out is the whole satirical theme of it, Christmas specials, but there is an making fun of the cuddly, friendly idea it is. Doofenshmirtz’s entire subplot is underlying satirical plot that helps it a huge parody of how penetrating carolers are and how annoying it can get stand out. when people are trying to stuff down cheer down your throat when you’re perfectly jolly and comfortable in your current state of Christmas enjoyment. I was really cracking up at Monogram’s disbelief in the fact that Carl did not give the CD to Perry and was in fact not his Secret Santa. Their dynamic is, simply put, delicious, rich, and hilarious. The energy Jeff “Swampy” Marsh and Tyler Alexander Mann put into their characters is actually almost non-existing; but you see, that’s what makes it so funny! It’s the whole simplistic, dry voice performance they give that makes their characters so relatable and funny! And as they develop them, it just gets more and more masterfully funny. And it’s this development that helps this special so strongly, too. Isabella is confirmed to be Jewish, something we fans have just guessed at. And this even helps it become a diverse Christmas special instead of the usual “Christmas, Christmas, Christmas, no others” thing that’s become too common lately. Buford also serves as a majorly developed character in this. He plans on redeeming himself just before Christmas in order to be on the good list. And the great part about that is he does. It’s like he’s Scrooge at the end of A Christmas Carol, redeeming himself before Christmas and becoming better for it. I doubt it’ll will actually change him forever, but there’s something almost Buford represents the Scrooge like a Biblical parallel to it — if this wasn’t a Disney cartoon, that is. of this festive tale in the way he redeems himself by doing a greater So all and all, I truly enjoyed this special. It was visually stunning and was task. It’s almost a biblical parallel, if voiced and sung brilliantly, and while the writing was explicitly sweet and sticky, this wasn’t a Disney cartoon. it was good in that and made fun of itself in the process. It was a great, fun special filled with laughs and smiles, and for that, I give it a jolly old overall A. Agree with this review? Disagree? Can’t really decide? Let us know on our talk page.

TriTri---StateState Gazette, Issue #9 2 December 16, 2009 Doofenshmirtz Activity Task Force report

by RRabbit42

Delta Alpha Tango Foxtrot to Major Monogram. Yo! Major! Are you there? Ben, you remember what happened the last time you got "creative" with your reporting? I hope he does. Oh! Major Monogram! Sorry about that, sir. Just trying to liven things up a bit. What do you have to report? We’ve been watching delivery trucks pulling up to Doofenshmirtz’s hanger at the Danville airport almost non-stop this morning. Most of them seem to be from office supply stores. We were able to get a peek at the boxes being delivered. They appear to be copiers and a whole mess of toner cartridges. What does he need that many ink cartridges for? Toner cartridges, sir. I don’t know. Jerry, what was the count again? I lost track, Ben. There's gotta be about three thousand of ’em. You boys are right. That is a whole mess of ink cartridges. Toner cartridges, sir. But that’s not all. There were two other strange deliveries. One was for some paint, and the other was for a couple of tanning beds. Hmmm. Ink cartridges, copiers, paint and tanning beds. What pernicious plan could Doofenshmirtz be concocting this time? I don’t know, Major. Alright. Time to send in Agent P. In the meantime, I suggest you brush up on your reporting protocols. We need to stop this before it gets too silly. Yes, sir. Couldn’t agree more, sir.

Wiki International by Topher208 As you may know from reading the early Crat Corner columns, our wiki population is very international. We have users from all over the world, including those that don’t speak English as their first language. When we were developing Phineas and Ferb Wiki, we had hoped that there would be users who could step up and create similar wikis with similar policies to ours so that readers who didn’t speak English could have a resource like our wiki. In May, Perryfan001 decided to start a Spanish language version. He asked permission to use our skin but chose to use a slightly different logo. They have similar policies, but some aren’t as strict as ours. Their community is not as large as ours and their current article count is around 150. So if you speak Spanish well, please help Perryfan out and contribute there. Work has also begun on a German language version of the wiki. Shego123 has taken a more literal approach with re-creating our wiki. The goal of the project is to create a virtual carbon-copy of our wiki, but in German. It has just opened, but will work to translate our articles into German and create new articles where necessary. If you speak German, Shego could use all the help you can offer. The German wiki is still in its infancy with only 16 articles, but should grow quickly. If you speak either of these languages, please check them out. It would be a great achievement to get these wikis as active as ours.

TriTri---StateState Gazette, Issue #9 4 December 16, 2009 Why I love Phineas and Ferb

by Zacbio

Phineas and Ferb is an amazing show! Most people like it because of its amazing inventions, catchy tunes and vivid characters. And because it’s hilarious! But for me, it’s the cast. They do such a wonderful job! Dan and “Swampy” are amazing people who didn’t just create Phineas and Ferb, they even do voices for two hilarious characters, Heinz Doofenshmirtz and Francis Monogram! It’s also great for us that they would take time out of their day to answer our questions on the Phineas and Ferb Wiki! And we can’t forget the voice actors who are super-amazing at talking with expression and singing, and all the people at Disney. It’s amazing that they can write awesome episodes and songs! Many parents actually enjoy watching Phineas and Ferb with their kids. My mom’s favourite character is Candace and my dad’s is Heinz Doofenshmirtz! Phineas and Ferb is a breakthrough in animated shows. It really is amazing!

Pages from The Book

as told to RRabbit42 Dear diary: Sometimes I just don’t understand adults. There was this commercial on TV for a fashion show at the mall. One of the ladies was wearing car tires. Who thinks tires make good clothes? But, mom seemed to be excited about it, so we headed over to the mall. There were a lot of people around a stage that had been set up. We got a spot in the back where we could see kinda good. We must have been waiting for a half hour before someone finally came out on stage. It was a girl in what looked like a blue ballerina’s tutu. She tromped down the stage and right off the end! Fortunately, she wasn’t hurt. How, I don’t know. Right after that, some guy in a green beret came out and started talking about the new clothes. They looked kind of familiar. I know I’ve seen them before. All the cameras started going off and everybody started cheering. I had to look away from the stage because the flashes were hurting my eyes. I saw the girl walking away again. She seemed to be in a hurry to get somewhere. When I looked back at the stage, everyone seemed to be leaving, but now they were all wearing the same clothes. How’d they get changed so fast? Mom wanted to go, so I couldn’t ask her about it. But after a couple of minutes, a bunch of guys in lab coats started showing up. Only it wasn’t different guys, it was the same guy. I lost count how many of him there were. And then everyone wanted to look like that guy. They all stampeded into a shop and got stuck in the door. When they came out, they were all wearing the same coat and shirt! I still don’t understand adults.

Milestones FadhilPF is running a monthly poll. We’re hovering just under 700 articles at the moment. We've gone above that number a couple of times, but after they were cleaned up (redirected to pages that already existed, The This month’s poll etc.), we dropped back below 700 articles. asks “Who is your What will be our 700th article? Will we achieve it before the year ends? favorite character?”

Wiki stats

Last month, we earned a spot in the top 40 wikis hosted by Wikia Entertainment. We’ve grown a little bit since then, but actually slipped down a little bit for the number of people who made 5 or more edits on the main pages. But unlike the bus in Speed, if it drops below 50, we won’t explode. Our status will just be downgraded from orange star to yellow star. As before, the table below gives you an idea of how we stand in relation to four other wikis. We don’t have that far to go before we will have 100 people making 5 or more edits each month and that will earn us red star status. So, for the people who haven’t signed up for an account, now’s a great time to do so. You’ll help us achieve a milestone and your edits will be counted under your user name rather than your computer’s IP address.
