Rule(s) Explanation 2 Eliminated Rule 2-19. 2-7 During the pregame stick check, eight sticks will be selected at random from each team to perform a pocket-depth check, close examination of the stringing and head, and specified measurements. The pregame examination will be the same as the team requested stick check. 2-13 Each team will only have two stick checks. Team requested stick checks will be permitted during one’s own timeout, at any point during halftime, during the five-minute and three-minute rest time before an overtime period, and prior to the start of the draw. 2-13 If a team requests a stick check and the stick is deemed legal, the team will lose a timeout. If the team has no timeouts remaining, their opponent will be awarded possession. If the team has no timeouts remaining, and possession has already been awarded, the stick check will not be permitted. 2-22 Beginning January 1, 2021, goalkeepers must use chest protectors designed for lacrosse certified to the NOCSAE commotio cordis protective device standard at the time of manufacture, or they must wear an alternative protective device certified to the NOCSAE commotio cordis protective device standard at the time of manufacture. 2-30 Eliminated the requirement that all team members, with the exception of the goalkeeper, shall be dressed uniformly, and allowed field players the choice of wearing shorts or kilt/skirt as long as the shorts or kilt/ skirt are of the same color and similar design, trim and cut. 5-11 The penalty administration for illegal draws will be at the spot of the ball. 5-22.h Following a foul or 90-second possession clock violation, permit players to self-start when awarded possession in the critical scoring area of their defensive end. 5-39.f For offsetting fouls, if one of the fouls requires the issuance of a yellow or red card, alternate possession will not apply. The team that was not issued the yellow or red card will be awarded possession of the ball. 5-41 Substitutions will be permitted during injury timeouts. 6-1.o, 5-32 Added passing from out of bounds as a foul. 6-16.d Permit the goalkeeper/defender to enter the goal circle with the ball without first propelling the ball into the goal circle, and to play the ball if it is inside the goal circle without returning to the goal circle. 5 6 MAJOR RULES CHANGES FOR 2020 AND 2021 Eliminated Rules 6-20, 6-17.c, and the part of Rule 6-16.d that required a defender to have both feet within the goal circle. 6-21.g A head coach will be issued a yellow card if a suspended player enters the field of play during the course of a game. 6-39 If there is a whistle blown for shooting space that is simultaneous with or immediately following a shot and the goalkeeper saves the ball, but does not maintain possession of the ball within the goal circle, the penalty shall not be administered, and the goalkeeper shall be awarded possession of the ball. Penalty Administrations For free positions awarded at the center line, draw positioning will not apply. New setup for free positions above goal line extended, within 8 meters of the goal circle.
