The geographical distribution of the Rissoidae in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea was compiled and is up-to-date until July 2011. All species were classified according to their mode of larval development (planktotrophic and nonplanktotrophic), and bathymetrical zonation (shallow species—those living between the intertidal and 50 m depth, and deep species—those usually living below 50 m depth). 542 species of Rissoidae are presently reported to the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, belonging to 33 genera. -

Multifactorial kelp threats have been described and include deforestation due to human impact, cascading effects and climate change. Here, we compared community and trophic structure in two contrasting kelp forests off the coasts of Brittany. One has been harvested five years before sampling and shelters abundant omnivorous predators, almost absent from the other, which has been treated as preserved from kelp harvest. δ15N analyses conducted on the overall communities were linked to the tropho-functional structure of different strata featuring these forests (stipe and holdfast of canopy kelp and rock). Our results yielded site-to-site differences of community and tropho-functional structures across kelp strata, particularly contrasting in terms of biomass on the understorey. -

They have an important role in nutrient cycling, energy capture and transfer, and offer biogenic coastal defence. Kelps also provide extensive substrata for colonising organisms, ameliorate conditions for understorey assemblages, and generate three-dimensional habitat structure for a vast array of marine plants and animals, including a number of ecologically and commercially important species. This thesis aimed to describe the role of temperature on the functioning of kelp forests as biogenic habitat formers, predominantly via the substitution of cold water kelp species by warm water kelp species, or through the reduction in density of dominant habitat forming kelp due to predicted increases in seawater temperature. The work comprised three main components; (1) a broad scale study into the environmental drivers (including sea water temperature) of variability in holdfast assemblages of the dominant habitat forming kelp in the UK, Laminaria hyperborea, (2) a comparison of the warm water kelp Laminaria ochroleuca and the cold water kelp L. -

Los muestreos incluyeron un estudio espacial, en el que se muestrearon 10 estaciones con una draga Van-Veen (noviembre 1996), y un estudio temporal, en el que se realizaron inmersiones bimensuales con escafandra autónoma (mayo 1998-marzo 1999) en una estación. Durante el estudio espacial, se contabilizaron 158 taxones, siendo dominante el grupo de los poliquetos (91 taxones) frente al de los moluscos (67 taxones). -

Cette collection est conservée au Muséum des sciences naturelles à Bruxelles. Le petit meuble à tiroirs illustré ici est une modeste partie de cette très vaste collection ; il appartient au Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle et est conservé à la Station marine de Dinard. Il regroupe des bivalves et gastéropodes du golfe Normano-Breton essentiellement prélevés au début du XXe siècle et soigneusement référencés. SCOTTISH STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2010 No. 29 CROFTERS, COTTARS AND SMALL LANDHOLDERS The Crofting (Designation of Areas) (Scotland) Order 2010 Made - - - - 3rd February 2010 Coming into force in accordance with article 1(1) The Scottish Ministers make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 3A(1)(b) of the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993(a) and all other powers enabling them to do so. In accordance with section 3A(13) of that Act, a draft of this instrument has been laid before and approved by resolution of the Scottish Parliament. Citation, commencement and interpretation 1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Crofting (Designation of Areas) (Scotland) Order 2010 and comes into force on the day after the day on which it is made. (2) In this Order “local government area” means a local government area established by section 1(2) and (4) of, and Schedule 1 to, the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994(b). Designation of Areas 2. The following areas are designated for the purposes of section 3A(1)(b) of the Crofters (Scotland) Act 1993— (a) that part of the local government area of Highland that is outwith the crofting counties(c); (b) the local government area of Moray; (c) in the local government area of Argyll and Bute, the parishes of Kingarth, North Bute and Rothesay; and (a) 1993 c.44 (“the 1993 Act”). Section 3A was inserted by the Crofting Reform etc. Act 2007 (asp 7), section 6. (b) 1994 c.39.
