Press Release Press Release July 21, 2011 Toshiba takes the Environmental Initiative by planting Two Thousand Seven Hundred Trees in Metropolitan Manila MANILA –Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte., Ltd. Manila Representative Office (TAPL) and Toshiba Group’s three operating companies in the Philippines this morning joined forces with representatives from the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources, Office of the Mayor of Taguig City, Metro Manila Development Authority, and the winners of Miss Philippines Earth 2011 to beautify one of Metro Manila’s most traveled beltways by planting 2,700 trees along circumferential C5 Road. TAPL, Toshiba Information Equipment (Philippines), Inc., Toshiba Storage Device (Philippines), Inc. and Toshiba Logistics (Philippines) Corp. cooperated in organizing the event, as part of Toshiba’s program to mark its 150th anniversary in 2025 by planting a worldwide forest of 1.5 million trees by 2025, and also to celebrate 2011 as the United Nations’ International Year of the Forest. A hundred and fifty volunteers from Toshiba’s Philippine operations took part in the planting, and they were joined by Mr. Shoji Yoshioka, Senior Vice President of Toshiba Corporation, and representatives of Toshiba Group companies in Asia and Oceania. The tree planting is the first time that Toshiba Group companies in the Philippines have worked together on an environmental initiative. Planting trees along C5 Road, one of Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfares, will not only help improve the beauty and tree growth along the road but will help to absorb pollution and noise emissions from vehicles. This tree-planting effort is part of Toshiba Group’s global initiative to plant 1.5 million trees worldwide by 2025, year chosen to celebrate Toshiba’s 150th anniversary and to demonstrate its long-term commitment to help save the global environment. The tree planting program reflects Toshiba Group’s Environmental Vision 2050, a comprehensive and long-term commitment to environmental management practices that promote harmony with the Earth. Opening of the Meeting (No document) 1. The meeting was opened by the hostess, Stephany Dianne Stefanowitz, the Miss Philippines-Earth 2012 and Miss Earth Air 2012. She reminded the meeting that the Dugong was at high risk of extinction, and after the First Meeting of the Signatories in Abu Dhabi in 2010, the present gathering was another milestone in international efforts to protect the species. 2. After leading the meeting in a rendition of the Philippines’ national anthem, Ms Stefanowitz introduced Ms Theresa Mundita Lim of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources of the Philippines (DENR). 3. Ms Lim introduced the other people on the podium, namely Ernesto D. Adobo Junior, the Deputy Minister followed by Nelson P. Devanadera, the Assistant Director and Ms Donna Kwan of the CMS Secretariat. She welcomed all the delegates to Manila and expressed her delight and honour at hosting the meeting. 4. Ms Lim related the story of Joanna, the injured Dugong calf. Unfortunately all the efforts to try to save the animal were in vain, because, as was later discovered, its digestive tract had been infested with parasites. However, lessons were learned from the experience.
