In the Threat Prevention discussion, attendees will learn the definitions of event types, past events from lesser-known to nationally reported incidents, and strategies and tools to create a safer space. Chris Grollnek is internationally recognized as one of the leading experts and authorities on the phenomenon of “active shooter” events and Domestic Terrorism Prevention. In addition to appearing on numerous national television networks, Chris is consulted by high ranking federal and state government officials, corporate executives, think tanks, U.S. House and Senate committees, and the globally renowned Mackenzie Institute in Canada. Chris is a highly decorated and accomplished Marine and Marine Corps Senior Drill Instructor with 12 years of military service. In addition to several undergraduate degrees, Chris earned with high honors his Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice and Security. Rick Shaw speaks internationally and across the United States to share his expertise and thought leadership as a violence prevention expert who has conducted over twenty years of extensive research on incidents and tragedies. In 2020, Rick published his book titled The First Preventers Playbook – How to Intervene, Disrupt, and Prevent Tragedy Before It Strikes. Registration and CPE certificates will be administered by the ACFE Lehigh Valley Chapter. 2020 FRAUD AND CORRUPTION AWARENESS SEMINAR – FBI FOLLOW-UP If you attended last year’s Fraud and Corruption Awareness Seminar, you may recall FBI Special Agent Brooklynn Riordan’s presentation on health care fraud and a local case involving a former Fox Chapel cardiologist. Dr. Samirkumar Shah turned himself in a day after missing his sentencing hearing in July 2021. Shah was convicted two years ago of health care fraud following an eight-day jury trial. He was found guilty of submitting fraudulent insurance claims from 2008 to 2013 for a treatment dubbed the “fountain of youth.” Shah claimed the treatments could make patients younger and smarter and treat a number of conditions, including blood pressure, migraines and obesity. However, prosecutors said he fabricated patient files, double billed insurers and submitted more than $13 million in fraudulent claims – receiving more than $3.5 million in reimbursement. The recommended sentencing guideline range Shah faces is 6- 1/2 to nine years in prison. Restitution is $1.2 million. Read the full story here.     Lehigh County Created on March 6, 1812, from part of Northampton County and named for the Lehigh River. The name Lehigh is derived from the German “Lecha,” which comes from the Native American term “Uchauwekink,” meaning, “where there are forks.” Allentown, the county seat, was laid out about 1762 and named for Chief Justice William Allen of Pennsylvania, a local landowner. It was incorporated as the Borough of Northampton on March 18, 1811, renamed Allentown in 1838, and chartered as a city on March 12, 1867. The county adopted a home rule charter in November 1975. Although English, Scotch-Irish, and Welsh were in the Saucon Township area before 1729, large numbers of Swiss and Germans came to the Lehigh Valley after that. Philadelphians allied with the Penn proprietors received large grants and sold them to settlers. Allentown was designed to take advantage of the road to Reading. Canal development in the 1820s preceded the growth of industry. Railroads arrived in the 1840s, and Allentown grew large in the 1850s. Small iron furnaces using local ore flourished until phased out by competition elsewhere. By the late nineteenth century the slate industry, grain milling, and the manufacture of shoes, cotton, woolens, silk, cigars, beer, and cement were major enterprises, but each has been overcome by competitors elsewhere since the 1930s. Machinery manufacture was dominant until the deindustrialization period of the 1970s. Forty-three percent of the land is farmed, and the value of harvested crops exceeds that of animal products. Lehigh is in the top quarter of the counties in total farm income.
