14 Established 1961 Sports Monday, October 5, 2020 Photo of the day Eagle lifts England’s Reid to LPGA lead in New Jersey NEW YORK: Mel Reid fired an eagle and three birdies in a five-under par 66 on Saturday to seize a one-shot lead going into the final round of the LPGA ShopRite Classic. England’s Reid, who was one off the pace head- ing into the round, had 15-under par total at the Seaview resort in Galloway New Jersey, and was one in front of Americans Jennifer Song and Jennifer Kupcho, who both shot 65. It’s the second straight event that Reid, a six-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, has held the 54-hole lead in search of a first LPGA Tour title. She was two-up through three rounds in Portland but finished tied for fifth in a tournament won by com- patriot Georgia Hall in a playoff. “Another great opportunity this week to get it done,” Reid said. “Tomorrow I’m going to take my time a little bit more, and hopefully it will make a bit of a difference.” Reid put herself in position again with a quick start at Seaview, where she birdied the first and third. She was on the green in two at the par-five ninth and two-putted for birdie and a birdie at the 10th put her alone atop the leaderboard. “I knew it was always in me to do this,” Reid said. “I wasn’t sure how to get there. It has just taken me a lot more years than I expected it to.” Kupcho and Song both birdied the par-five 18th to close the gap.

  • Postponed Features Among 39 Entries for the King George VI & Queen
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Wednesday, June 8, 2016 Postponed features among 39 entries for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Last year's winner Postponed headlines 39 top-class entries for the £1.15-million Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) at Ascot on Saturday, July 23, details of which are revealed today. The number of entries this year, which include 14 three-year-olds, is significantly up for the summer showpiece of the European Flat season, with 31 put forward in 2015, 35 in 2014 and 29 in 2013. Five-year-old Postponed is bidding to become only the third dual winner of Ascot's 12- furlong flagship race, following on from Swain (1997 & 1998) and Dahlia (1973 & 1974). Formerly trained by Luca Cumani, the Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum-owned Postponed is unbeaten in three starts this year for new handler Roger Varian and was last seen out when defeating Found (Aidan O'Brien) impressively by four and a half lengths in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup (Sponsored by Investec) at Epsom Downs on June 4. Investec Derby hero Harzand (Dermot Weld) headlines 14 entries from Ireland. The son of Sea The Stars could bid to become the 13th colt to complete the Derby/King George double in the same season and the first since Galileo in 2001. Aidan O'Brien, Ireland's champion Flat trainer, accounts for 12 entries in total, the most of any handler. His possibles, besides Found, include Minding, who took her Group One tally to four in the British Classic, the Investec Oaks, at Epsom Downs on Saturday, June 4, Gold Cup favourite Order Of St George, globe-trotting dual Group One winner Highland Reel and impressive French 2,000 Guineas victor The Gurkha.

The clearance rate remained the same at 75%. At the conclusion of the sale, Arqana president Eric Hoyeau commented, "It is an extremely pleasing renewal of the V.2 Yearling Sale, which has now fully asserted its ability to produce two-year-old winners at a high level. • No Racing at Santa Anita Through Weekend
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1, 2020 NO RACING AT SANTA ANITA CASTELLANO: >TOUGHEST CHALLENGE I=VE FACED IN MY LIFE= by Bill Finley THROUGH WEEKEND; For Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano, the hard part of having the coronavirus has not been the physical effects. DERBY POSTPONED Relatively young at 42 years old and in peak physical condition, Castellano said he feels Agreat@ and considers himself to be Avery lucky and very fortunate.@ But that doesn=t mean the coronavirus didn=t beat him up, just in other ways. Castellano said Tuesday that the mental toll COVID-19 took on him was substantial and the hardest part of his ordeal. AThis has been one of toughest challenges I have faced in my life,@ he said. AThat=s because I didn=t know what to do, what to say. They said I would not have any symptoms for the first couple of days but later on it was going to catch up to me. That=s the worst. When you go to sleep, you worry about whether you=ll be able to breathe, whether you need to go to the hospital. Then if you go to the hospital you have to be isolated and nobody could have seen me. I didn=t know what to think. The problem has been much more mental than physical. I felt fine all along, but I knew that could change.@ Cont. p3 Santa Anita | Horsephotos IN TDN EUROPE TODAY Santa Anita Park will remain closed for live racing through at TATE BACKS RESUMPTION AT NEWMARKET least the weekend, the track announced Tuesday, prompting the Trainer James Tate believes Newmarket is the ideal location postponement of the GI Santa Anita Derby and GII Santa Anita for racing to take place behind closed doors.
