14 Established 1961 Sports Monday, October 5, 2020 Photo of the day Eagle lifts England’s Reid to LPGA lead in New Jersey NEW YORK: Mel Reid fired an eagle and three birdies in a five-under par 66 on Saturday to seize a one-shot lead going into the final round of the LPGA ShopRite Classic. England’s Reid, who was one off the pace head- ing into the round, had 15-under par total at the Seaview resort in Galloway New Jersey, and was one in front of Americans Jennifer Song and Jennifer Kupcho, who both shot 65. It’s the second straight event that Reid, a six-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, has held the 54-hole lead in search of a first LPGA Tour title. She was two-up through three rounds in Portland but finished tied for fifth in a tournament won by com- patriot Georgia Hall in a playoff. “Another great opportunity this week to get it done,” Reid said. “Tomorrow I’m going to take my time a little bit more, and hopefully it will make a bit of a difference.” Reid put herself in position again with a quick start at Seaview, where she birdied the first and third. She was on the green in two at the par-five ninth and two-putted for birdie and a birdie at the 10th put her alone atop the leaderboard. “I knew it was always in me to do this,” Reid said. “I wasn’t sure how to get there. It has just taken me a lot more years than I expected it to.” Kupcho and Song both birdied the par-five 18th to close the gap.

  • Postponed Features Among 39 Entries for the King George VI & Queen
Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Wednesday, June 8, 2016 Postponed features among 39 entries for the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Last year's winner Postponed headlines 39 top-class entries for the £1.15-million Group One King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) at Ascot on Saturday, July 23, details of which are revealed today. The number of entries this year, which include 14 three-year-olds, is significantly up for the summer showpiece of the European Flat season, with 31 put forward in 2015, 35 in 2014 and 29 in 2013. Five-year-old Postponed is bidding to become only the third dual winner of Ascot's 12- furlong flagship race, following on from Swain (1997 & 1998) and Dahlia (1973 & 1974). Formerly trained by Luca Cumani, the Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum-owned Postponed is unbeaten in three starts this year for new handler Roger Varian and was last seen out when defeating Found (Aidan O'Brien) impressively by four and a half lengths in the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup (Sponsored by Investec) at Epsom Downs on June 4. Investec Derby hero Harzand (Dermot Weld) headlines 14 entries from Ireland. The son of Sea The Stars could bid to become the 13th colt to complete the Derby/King George double in the same season and the first since Galileo in 2001. Aidan O'Brien, Ireland's champion Flat trainer, accounts for 12 entries in total, the most of any handler. His possibles, besides Found, include Minding, who took her Group One tally to four in the British Classic, the Investec Oaks, at Epsom Downs on Saturday, June 4, Gold Cup favourite Order Of St George, globe-trotting dual Group One winner Highland Reel and impressive French 2,000 Guineas victor The Gurkha.

  • Finest City to Fasig- Tipton November
THURSDAY, AUGUST 17, 2017 A LOOK BACK AT SALES WEEK IN SARATOGA FINEST CITY TO FASIG- by Bill Oppenheim Last weekend=s Fasig-Tipton New York-bred sale rounded off TIPTON NOVEMBER the company=s first three yearling sales of the season by setting new records for gross ($16.2 million), average ($89,088) and median ($69,500), and of course when we say >set new records,= that actually does mean the metrics were actually higher, not just from 2016, but even from 2015, which we=ve been using as the benchmark year all through 2017. The gross was up by 18% and the average by 15% over 2016, but the numbers which really confirm the North American yearling market, anyway, is actually improving are the 9% increase in both gross and average over the 2015 New York-bred sale, when exactly the same (182) number of yearlings sold. As you can see in the Weekly Sales Ticker, this means the three-sale gross has improved by 5%, from $81.6 million to $85.3 million, while the average is up by 9%, from $153,458 with 532 sold over the three sales in 2015, to $167,286, with 510 sold (down 4%) this year.
