Postponed to Seek Epsom Redemption TUESDAY, 28 MARCH, 2017 INGLIS LOOKS TO THE FUTURE AT RIVERSIDE POSTPONED TO SEEK by Kelsey Riley As Inglis celebrates 150 years in business in 2017 it is not only EPSOM REDEMPTION commemorating its past, but also planning for its future with the construction of its new state-of-the-art headquarters, Riverside Stables at Warwick Farm. The Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale, which follows on from the Easter Yearling Sale and Chairman=s Sale on Apr. 10 to 12, will be the last sale held at the company=s historic Newmarket headquarters in Randwick, where Thoroughbreds have been sold since 1867, and under the Inglis banner from 1905 (click here for Part I of this series, recapping Inglis=s history). Inglis=s Newmarket property sits on what was once a hive of horse racing activity, but time has seen the horses condensed to Randwick Racecourse as the area=s health and education sectors have grown. "We're disappointed to get beaten, but the more we reflect on it, the more we think he hasn't run a bad race at all," said Varian on Monday. "Without wanting to make excuses, I don't think the ground would have suited him, there was also a headwind and a slow pace. He just can't quicken on that slower ground like he does on quicker ground, but I think you've got to congratulate the winner, who won very well on the night.@ Looking ahead Varian will assess the horse on his return from Dubai, but will be keen to target the Coronation Cup which reverts to >Oaks= Friday having been run on Derby Day for the last few years. "Postponed is due to fly back today, so we'll see how he is when he gets home,@ concluded Varian. AHe certainly won't run before Epsom and we'd be very keen to get him back for the Coronation Cup again if we can. I'm sure he'll bounce back in the summer." England’s Reid, who was one off the pace head- ing into the round, had 15-under par total at the Seaview resort in Galloway New Jersey, and was one in front of Americans Jennifer Song and Jennifer Kupcho, who both shot 65. It’s the second straight event that Reid, a six-time winner on the Ladies European Tour, has held the 54-hole lead in search of a first LPGA Tour title. She was two-up through three rounds in Portland but finished tied for fifth in a tournament won by com- patriot Georgia Hall in a playoff. “Another great opportunity this week to get it done,” Reid said. “Tomorrow I’m going to take my time a little bit more, and hopefully it will make a bit of a difference.” Reid put herself in position again with a quick start at Seaview, where she birdied the first and third. She was on the green in two at the par-five ninth and two-putted for birdie and a birdie at the 10th put her alone atop the leaderboard. “I knew it was always in me to do this,” Reid said. “I wasn’t sure how to get there. It has just taken me a lot more years than I expected it to.” Kupcho and Song both birdied the par-five 18th to close the gap.

That win saw Snitzel tie the record for number of juvenile winners in a single season for an Australian sire, held by Without Fear (Fr), which has stood for 40 years. Twenty-nine of those winners have come in Australia and one in South Africa: the exciting Mike de Kock-trained colt Heavenly Blue (Aus). Snitzel stands at Arrowfield Stud, where he will command a fee of A$110,000 this year, and that operation=s Chairman John Messara said, "Snitzel's progeny are precocious, but his 2-year- olds of this year have been something else; we're thrilled with Snitzel's achievements." SUNDAY, 30 JULY, 2017 The King George took on an entirely different shape as the ENABLE ELECTRIC heavy rain fell on already-deadened ground. Despite the Epsom Oaks being staged in a thunderstorm, the latest Juddmonte IN KING GEORGE sensation had it slick there as she readily turned back Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) on June 2 and it was even quicker as she completed the double in the Irish equivalent two weeks prior to this. Tactics were certain to play a significant part here, with her potentially tricky draw in seven leaving her vulnerable to early scrimmaging, but Frankie was happy to let her bounce out and put her head in front until Maverick Wave crossed over to provide the lead. With Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) for company as they ignored the pacemaker, Enable settled perfectly and had stablemate Jack Hobbs (GB) (Halling) behind along with Idaho as Ulysses travelled with his customary ease and Jim Crowley tracked their every move. • Welcome to the June 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter
Welcome to the June 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing Newsletter. Royal Ascot review Where to start with a review of Royal Ascot? There were some outstanding equine performances, like Solow’s in the Queen Anne Stakes, Time Test’s in the Tercentenary Stakes and Muhaarar’s in the Commonwealth Cup. And there was extraordinary human endeavour. Just about every single horse that Aidan O’Brien ran put up a performance that either surpassed or equalled its best previous performance. The champion trainer had five winners, and if the ball had hopped a little differently, he could have had six or seven. Ryan Moore had nine, more than any other rider in the post-war era. Moore has set the bar high, and he continues to raise it higher and higher. If there is such a thing as the best flat rider in the world, then Ryan Moore is it. There were other equine performances that might have been better than the bare form suggests, and which therefore may provide betting angles for the future. Bronze Angel did well to finish as close as he did in the Royal Hunt Cup given that he raced prominently from early in a race that was run to suit the hold-up horses, as the Royal Hunt Cup usually is. The Corsican made eye-catching ground from the rear in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes in a race in which the early pace held up well. Udododontu went for home very early in the Britannia, his turn of foot deployed just a little early in a race run over a stiff straight mile for a horse whose optimum trip is probably seven and a half furlongs.

Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 Ulysses late dash for glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ulysses, who re-opposes his G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes conqueror Highland Reel in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), will be held up as long as possible in a bid to reverse the placings at Ascot on Saturday, July 29. Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos Family which owns Ulysses, said today: "In the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, maybe Ulysses thought job done when he hit the front, and we had to hold him up a bit more. "Jim Crowley did that when Ulysses won the Eclipse but even then he said to me 'I would have liked to have been more patient'. "As a horse matures, you learn more about him and what tactics he is comfortable with. A daring ride is the way it looks like." This was revealed today when QIPCO and Ascot Racecourse hosted a media event this afternoon ahead of the 2017 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), which is Britain's premier all-aged middle-distance contest and boasts a prize fund of £1.15-million. Ulysses is out to give trainer Sir Michael Stoute an unprecedented sixth win in the Ascot race, with his previous success coming with runaway winner Harbinger in 2010. It was Ulysses who provided Stoute with his sixth G1 Eclipse Stakes earlier this month when beating Barney Roy by a nose.

  • Epsom Derby & Oaks
Marten Julian’s Epsom Derby & Oaks ONLINE PREVIEW Friday 5 June The Investec Oaks (1m 4f) (4.30) Writing this on Thursday I am assuming the ground will be riding good for the start of the meeting. The going was on the soft side earlier in the week, but temperatures are set to rise and conditions could be quick by Friday unless the forecast thunderstorms hit the course. If they do, then they could bring up to 5mm of rain, which would ease the ground to good to soft, if not softer. There is nothing more frustrating in an analysis of form than a late change in ground conditions, so this uncertainty has to be factored into my preview. Visually the most impressive performance I have seen has come from Crystal Zvezda when she won a Listed trial stakes at Newbury in May. Rated just 78 at the time, on the strength of her maiden win at Lingfield in October, she beat the 98-rated Montalcino going away by three and a half lengths, with 90-rated Pamona half a length back in third. On figures she ran to a mark of around 103, 4lb lower than her new mark of 107. Crystal Zvezda won the race in the manner of a very talented filly. Last in the early stages and still with a wall of horses in front of her a quarter of a mile from home, she was switched approaching the final furlong and in just a couple of strides went clear of her rivals to win with loads in hand.
