Stanton College Preparatory School Description of Clubs and Activities 2017-2018

American Red Cross The purpose is to aid the American Red Cross in supporting victims of disaster, providing the nation’s donated blood, teaching lifesaving skills, providing international humanitarian aid, and supporting military members and their families.

American Sign Language Club The purpose of this club is to enlighten students about deaf culture and provide an engaging and fun way of learning ASL.

Animal Rights Club This club strives to promote the appreciation of animals and their rights, as well as to enhance animal rights awareness to the school.

Anime Society The purpose of this club is to create a haven for all lovers of anime and Japanese culture.

Artistree Club The purpose of this club is to raise awareness of tree benefits through the usage of artwork. Club-decorated pots filled with small seedlings will be distributed at local Jacksonville events through various means.

Best Buddies The purpose of this club is to foster a relationship between people with and without Intellectual and Developmental Disorders to promote social inclusion.

Black History Club The purpose of this club is to provide the student body with an informational center that specializes in the area of black history, and to engage them in intellectual discussions on the struggles and challenges faced by African Americans in today’s society.

Bridge & Board Game Club The purpose is to have fun while learning and playing Bridge and Board games.

CAS (Community Arts Service) The purpose of this club is to bring students together on projects that will take art (visual or performance) out to serve the broader community.

JV & Varsity Cheerleading The purpose of this organization is to promote school spirit and unity.

Chemistry Club The purpose of this club is to perform labs and tutor students in need of assistance.

Chess Club The purpose of this club is to gather and play chess and to learn and apply new chess skills in games and in tournaments.

Chinese Club The purpose is to promote cross-cultural understanding and Chinese language learning.

Club Unity The purpose of this club is to practice the art of stepping while also projecting positive images throughout the community.

Code Club The purpose is to provide students with the chance to have a hands on learning experience about technology.

Crochet & Knitting Club The purpose of this club is to promote education of crochet and knitting skills and techniques as well as to provide the community with finished projects to be donated to organizations in need.

Dance Team The purpose of Stanton’s Dance Team is to provide entertainment for the school during school related performances and to also promote school spirit.

Debate Club The purpose of this club is to provide Stanton students with a platform to discuss current events with their peers.

Devil’s Advocate (Newspaper) The purpose of this organization is to provide the student body an opportunity to submit stories, teach students layout, writing, and ad techniques and to produce a quality newspaper.

Drama Club The purpose of this club is to explore the elements of theatre and produce plays.

Expressionist The purpose of this organization is to foster an interest in poetry within the student body and to provide all students with a safe outlet for creative writing and performance. eSports ad Video Gaming Club The purposes of this club are to prove a space for students to relax and play video games, as well as to form a team for competitive gaming which will compete in tournaments.

Fantasy Sports Club The purpose of this club is to participate in discussions pertaining to sports and participate in multiple student run fantasy leagues.

Fashion Club The purpose of this club is to bring together Stanton’s fashion students into one representative body. This club is to be active in the community and allow students to show their creative talent in fashion related aspects.

Foster Closet The purpose is to work with the foster closet organization to provide foster kids with basic necessities that they may not get otherwise. Meets monthly

French Club The purpose of this club is to encourage the members to make use of the language, become familiar with the francophone cultures and, enjoy fellowship with proficient French speakers.

Future Business Leaders of America To educate members on the purpose of business.

Gender-Sexualities Alliance (GSA) The purpose of this club is prevent discrimination and maintain the balance amongst the gay/straight community.

Great Decisions & WorldQuest The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to discuss the current world’s political, economic, social and scientific issues.

Habijax The purpose of this club is to provide members with opportunities to give back to their local community by working on construction sites affiliated with Habijax.

Helping Unique Girls and Guys Succeed (HUGGS) The purpose of this club is to influence the lives of children in the Stanton community through mentoring and homework help.

Hope Club To create art and resources for the at risk population of North Florida.

IB Magazine The purpose of the IB Magazine is to provide an outlet for creativity, humor, and thoughtful essays.

Ignite The purpose of this club is to make the transition into high school easier and more successful for the freshman with the help of senior mentors.

Indo-US Youth Leadership Club The purpose of this club is to develop youth into responsible, ethical leaders, committed to helping the local community and develop effective communication and decision-making skills with leadership qualities.

Jewish Student Union The purpose of this club is to invite Jewish teens to participate in Jewish cultural activities, or non-Jewish teens to become educated about the culture of Judaism.

Junior Civitans The purpose of this club is to allow members to participate in a number of different service projects throughout the school year.

K-9s for Warriors The purpose of this club is to raise money and awareness for the non-profit, K-9s for Warriors.

Keep Jacksonville Beautiful The purpose of this club is to support community beautification, enhance community pride and improve quality of life in Jacksonville through provision of outreach, educational activities and programming.

Kind Project The “Kind Project” is a club launched to assist families in the Ronald McDonald House. Our goal is to focus on families in need at the Ronald McDonald House and provide additional living assistance.

Regional & State Latin Forum (NLHS/Latin Club) The objective of this organization shall be to recognize Junior Classical League Students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and citizenship in Latin Class and promote the reputation of Latin in the community through service projects. This organization shall represent the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society in the school of Stanton College Preparatory.

Law Club The purpose of this club is to do mock trials that will be used to introduce students to the legal process, discuss legal matters that pertain to relevant cases, as well as get involved in the community’s legal centers.

Life Skills Club The purpose of this club is help high school students gain insight into the world we live in and strive to give students the tools they need to succeed in this world.

Marathon High The purpose of this club is to change how teens view themselves through the training for and completion of a half marathon.

MIT Launch Entrepreneurship The purpose of this club shall be to allow high school students to develop entrepreneurial skills and mindset by launching startups utilizing materials and support from MIT Launch.

Model U.N. The purpose of this organization is to teach students how to model the United Nations and become skilled in the art of diplomatic relations.

Multicultural Club The purpose of the Multicultural Student Association is to raise cultural awareness among administration, faculty, and students, to address the different issues that relate to the diversity of America and to oppress racism throughout the community.

Music Production Club To provide opportunities for students with an enthusiasm for computer-based music to share technical knowledge of software programs and their creative outlets.

Muslim Student Association The Muslim Student Association is a group of students who aim to interact with the Stanton student body through community service and uni-religious events in an attempt to strengthen Muslim bonds to the school, end stereotypical or misguided beliefs about Islam, and promote religious unity at Stanton.

Mu Alpha Theta This club seek to expose student to math, encourage participation in competitions and to promote tutoring in the community.

National Art Honor Society The purpose of the NAHS is to recognize and provide artistically talented students the opportunity to dedicate their spirit and pursuit of art. The society is committed to increasing aesthetic awareness and offering service throughout the school and community. National Chinese Honor Society The purpose of the National Chinese Honor Society is to recognize the high academic achievements, good characters and services of the Stanton NCHS members, and to promote higher level Chinese language learning, and greater cross- cultural understanding.

National English Honor Society The purpose of the National English Honor Society is to recognize those who meet/exceed academic standards and reward their accomplishments, to further grow and foster members’ abilities in the field of English, and to enlarge service by members within their community.

National Film Honor Society Film Honor Society is an honor society designed to celebrate the cultural and visual landscape of film. This honor society will be comprised of students who appreciate film to the fullest extent while maintaining the academic videos In film studies.

National French Honor Society The aim of NFHS is to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to create enthusiasm for an understanding of francophone culture civilization, and to promote and perpetuate international friendship.

National History Honor Society To unite students with a common passion for history, to spread our love of history, and inspire others to appreciate history.

National Honor Society The purpose of the organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.

National Latin Honor Society To recognize Junior Classical League students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and citizenship in Latin class and promote the reputation of Latin in the community through service projects.

National Leadership Honor Society The purpose of this organization is for the members to build their leadership skills through participation on campus and in the community.

National Spanish Honor Society The purpose of the Stanton Spanish Honor Society is to recognize the high achievement of its members in their study of the Spanish Language. It serves to encourage and cultivate members’ interests in both the Spanish Language and culture with monthly meetings, service projects, and cultural activities.

Natural Hair Club The natural hair club is a self-awareness club that focuses on the maintenance of hair and it’s relation to the overall person. This club will focus on understanding one’s own hair and learning how to manage it effectively.

Nintendo Appreciation Club The purpose of this club is to provide a space for students to appreciate, enjoy, and participate in the games of Nintendo of America together.

Origami Club The purpose of this club is to create a relaxing space where students can learn about and make origami.

Photography Club The purpose of Photography Club is to encourage and develop the pursuit of photographic knowledge and skills.

Psychology Club The organization serves to foster interest in the subject of Psychology within Stanton, while at the same time encouraging a spirit of service to the community.

Quill & Scroll Intl. Journalism Honor Society The purpose of this club is to encourage and recognize individual student achievement in journalism and scholastic publication.

Revived The purpose of Revived is to share God’s word, love, and sovereignty to those who are seeking Him.

Robotics/ Team 86 Robotics is to promote mathematics and science among Stanton students by applying them in a real-world situation. This is done through competing in the F.I.R.S.T. Robotics competition.

Science National Honor Society An honor society to encourage participation in and recognition of scientific and intellectual thought to advance students’ knowledge of classical and modern science, to communicate with the scientific community, and to aid the civic community with its comprehension of science.

Senior Women Our purpose is for the female seniors to give back to the community and school through volunteer work. In addition to that, grow a bond with one another and represent our class.

Sigma Chi Elite The purpose of this club is to promote sisterhood, academics, and leadership though mentorship and service to the community.

Space Settlement and Design Club The purpose of this club is to stud how the aerospace industry creates and presents their designs to NASA.

Spanish Club This club aims to celebrate and raise awareness of Hispanic culture.

Stanton Medical Society The purpose is to provide opportunities for members to become familiar with a broad range of medical specialties and asses their commitment to a medical field.

Stanton Role-Playing Games Club The purpose of this club is to encourage creative thinking as well as enhancing problem solving skills, as well as teamwork.

Thespian Troupe 3929 The purpose of this organization is to stage school theatre productions, to encourage greater awareness and enjoyment of live theatre, and to honor students whose work in high-school theatre is both honorable and exemplary.

TILE The purpose of this club is to inform students about how to run a business and help them start a business.

Tri M Music Honor Society The purpose is to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and inspire students to excel at music and leadership.

Viva La Lengua The purpose of this club is to encourage students to use their skills to compete in the World Language Festival so they can further experience and have a new perspective of a different culture.

Wounded Warriors Club The purpose of this club is to help out those veterans who risked their lives fighting for our country and to give back to those who were wounded in battle. This will help raise awareness throughout the school.

Young Gentlemen Society The club promotes good etiquette and respect among peers. The young men in the society will provide service to the community and demonstrate the leadership skills of “a proper Southern gentlemen.”

Young Life The purpose of this club is to build community and leadership among Stanton Students.

Youth in Government The purpose of this organization is to promote service leadership development learning through civic engagement and community service.

12th Man The purpose of this organization is to bring morale and support to student-athletics.
