Flight-Test of Eurofighter Aerodynamic Upgrades Completed Modifications News MILITARY AIRCRAFT 15 July 2015 Flight-test of Eurofighter aerodynamic upgrades completed Modifications boost agility and weapons-carrying capability Airbus Defence and Space has successfully completed flight-testing of a package of aerodynamic upgrades to the Eurofighter Typhoon swing-role fighter that promises to enhance further the aircraft’s agility and weapons-carrying ability. The Aerodynamic Modification Kit (AMK) is part of a wider Eurofighter Enhanced Manoeuvrability (EFEM) programme with the potential to help ensure the type’s continuing superiority for many years to come. It entails primarily the addition of fuselage strakes and leading-edge root extensions, which increase the maximum lift created by the wing by 25% - resulting in an increased turn rate, tighter turning radius, and improved nose-pointing ability at low speed – all critical fighter capabilities in air-to-air combat. The introduction of the AMK will not only enhance the Eurofighter’s current capability as a swing-role fighter-bomber, but will provide additional growth potential, enabling easier integration of future air–to-surface configurations and much more flexible applications, vastly enhancing the aircraft’s mission effectiveness in the air-to-surface role. Eurofighter Project Pilot Germany Raffaele Beltrame said: “This programme has been a tremendous success with very impressive results – in some areas even better than we expected. “We saw angle of attack values around 45% greater than on the standard aircraft, and roll rates up to 100% higher, all leading to increased agility. The handling qualities appeared to be markedly improved, providing more manoeuvrability, agility and precision while performing tasks representative of in-service operations. And it is extremely interesting to consider the potential benefits in the air-to-surface configuration thanks to the increased variety and flexibility of stores that can be carried. “It´s right to say that the EFEM/AMK work has allowed us to discover a new aircraft with much higher performance and greater potential to meet the challenges of the years ahead.” The flight trials followed some five years of studies. Eurofighter test pilots, joined in the latter stages by operational pilots from Germany, Italy and the UK, completed 36 sorties from Manching, Germany on the IPA7 Instrumented Production Aircraft. Photographer: Andreas Zeitler, Airbus Defence and Space About Eurofighter Typhoon Eurofighter Typhoon is the most advanced new generation swing-role combat aircraft currently available on the world market. It has been ordered by seven nations (Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Austria, Saudi Arabia and Oman) and is the largest military procurement programme in Europe. Its high technology strengthens the position of European aerospace industry in the international market. The programme secures more than 100,000 jobs in 400 companies. Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH manages the programme on behalf of the Eurofighter Partner Companies: Finmeccanica - Alenia Aermacchi, BAE Systems and Airbus Defence and Space in Germany and Spain, which are the most important aviation and aerospace companies in Europe. Since delivery of the first Eurofighter Typhoon to the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom at the end of 2003, a total of 427 aircraft have been delivered to six nations and over 274,000 flying hours have been achieved. About Airbus Defence and Space Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europe’s number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. Farnborough, July 14, 2014 ATR: 144 firm orders, new sales record for the first half of the year The aircraft manufacturer has also taken options for 112 additional aircraft At the Farnborough Airshow, the turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR this morning announced that it has taken firm orders for 144 aircraft (119 ATR 72-600 and 25 ATR 42-600), with options for 112 additional aircraft, since the beginning of the year. This year's contracts, of which many will be revealed during the week of the show, represent a total value of over US$3.45 billion (US$6 billion including options). These sales represent 150% compared to the total sales for the year 2013. They will allow ATR to further strengthen its leading position on the market for regional aviation, and thus confirm the predominance of turboprop aircraft, and particularly those of ATR, over short distances. Sales for the first half of the year highlight the appeal of the ATR '-600's for regional companies and the leasing company community, attracted by the economic and environmental performance of the aircraft, their technical reliability and their high standard of comfort. This year, the ATR '-600's have also passed the symbolic mark of 500 firm orders since their launch at the end of 2007. ATR's backlog currently stands at 325 aircraft to be delivered in the coming years, a new record, representing a value of US$8 billion. On the back of this sales performance in the first half the year, ATR has increased its end of 2013 backlog by around 45%, seeing production ensured for almost 4 years.

ITEC 2019 M-346 ITS Interoperability by Design ITEC 2019 – M-346 ITS Interoperability by Design Abstract — The world of military training is by nature conservative, typically customers planning future training systems base their ideas and expectations on how were trained. M-346 ITS design and development have been built around an innovative training paradigm where the Aircraft, the Ground Based Training Systems and the Interoperability functionality are strictly connected. Based on a number of developments and experiences, the user community is seeking to blur the boundaries to get more training value from an Interoperable System. • The “Green” ATR Flying Demonstrator Takes Off
The “green” ATR Flying Demonstrator takes off The purpose of the flying demonstration is to test new and more effective composite insulating materials and the vibro-acoustic sensors integrated into a large crown panel of ATR forward fuselage section. The flights test the new generation of optical fibers for improved identification of micro-cracks and easier maintenance too. The objective of such advanced technologies, developed by ATR’s shareholder Alenia Aermacchi, is to reduce the aircraft weight, fuel consumption, CO2 & NOx emissions and noise level. Toulouse, July 8, 2015: The “green” ATR 72 prototype today made the first flight of the “Clean Sky Joint Technology Initiative (CS JTI)” test campaign. CS JTI is a measure adopted by the European Parliament to support the trend of public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives in the field of research, with the aim of jointly developing a wide spectrum of technologies devoted to a clean, innovative and competitive air transport system. The Clean Sky goal is to achieve major steps towards the ACARE Environmental Goals for 2020 when compared to 2000 levels: 50% reduction in CO2 emissions, 80% cut in NOx emissions and halving of noise pollution. The project is financed 50/50 by the aeronautical industry and by the European Union. ATR has been part of the project since it was created in 2008, playing the role of Associate to its Italian shareholder Alenia Aermacchi, the Coordinator of Green Regional Aircraft Integrated Technology Demonstrator, inside the CS JTI. Today’s flight is the first of all those planned for the initiative’s Projects. Later on, towards the end of the year, a second flight test campaign will be checking out improvements to the electrical distribution, energy dispersal and the air conditioning systems.
