In the north of country rises the Greater Caucasus Mountains, Lesser Caucasus in the south-west. The highest point of the republic is Bazarduzu (4466m, The Greater Caucasus range). The cen- tral part of the country covers the Kura-Araz, south-east - Lankaran lowlands. Mountain lakes like Batabat, Maralgol and Goygol have unique beauty. There are many mineral springs have been revealed in Azerbaijan and the most famous are - "Badamly" and "Sirab". The fauna and flora of Azerbaijan is also rich and diverse. 9 out of 11 climate zones existing in the world are observed in Azerbaijan. In the same year Zangazur region of Azerbaijan is granted to Armenian SSR, consequently Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic separated from rest of the country.     Baku News and Events May 2013 Hungarian WizzAir Company will launch Budapest-Baku-Budapest flights - Nijat Mustafayev - APA The Hungarian WizzAir Company will launch a Budapest-Baku-Budapest flight on June 17, 2013, said the WizzAir’s Director Gyorgy Abran. According to him, ticket sales have already begun: “The flights from Budapest to Baku will be implemented on Mondays and Fridays at 20:35 (local time) and from Baku to Budapest – on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 03:55.” Abran noted that the Air Company has 40 Airbus A-320 aircrafts and the company will increase the number of aircrafts to 45 this year. For the present, the company has flights on more than 270 routes (33 countries). It carried 12 million passengers last year and this year is expected to reach 13.5 million. It is well known for flying all over Europe to 89 destinations including Warsaw, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Riga, and London. The current price is 120-150 euro from Baku to Budapest. Baku Charity Triathlon The 9th annual Baku Charity Triathlon will take place on Saturday, June 8, 2013. The race is a sprint-distance triathlon: 500m swim, 20km bike, 5 km run. The swim will take place at the Hyatt Oasis Club indoor pool during the morning, while the afternoon bike and run will take place at Stonepay Royal Park. The categories are an Open Race (men and women), an over 40’s race (men and women), an over 50s race (men and women) and two team races – teams of two or teams of three (no gender difference here).

    ISSN 2411-9598 (Print) European Journal of January-April 2018 ISSN 2411-4103 (Online) Language and Literature Studies Volume 4 Issue 1 Communist Propoganda in Azerbaijani Children’s Literature in the Soviet Union Zhala Babashova KASTRATİ Kastamonu University Faculty of Science and Letters, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures Abstract After the national republic had fallen in Azerbaijan in 1920 and the nation taken in the USSR, people’s view of the world was reshaped. Foreseeing that the sustainability of the Soviet order depends on educating children, the Communist Party rapidly started to improve the children’s literature. Furthermore, the Soviet ideology began to be transferred to the children in Azerbaijan via magazines and newspapers. Improved under the control of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijani children’s literature maintained the goal of raising Soviet minded people thanks to the topics and heroes in the literature. Three stages were considered so that Azerbaijani children could be raised with communist mentality. These stages are: Oktyabryat (age 7-9), Pioner (age 10), Komsomol (age 14). Oktyabryat was the first title given on the way to the Communism. The Soviet government made use of the power of the press, magazines and newspapers in order to carve socialism ideology into people’s minds. With the purpose of raising children with the Soviet mentality, the children’s magazine called Pioner (1927-1990) began publishing in Baku, in 1927. The magazine was issued 11 times a year. 80 percent of the essays, stories and poems were served for the Communist propaganda. These praised the Soviet era, told stories about Lenin’s success in school and included poems about the Soviet ancestry.

    Literature Abuzar BAGIROV Doctor of philological sciences, Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO-University), Russian Federation NOTABLE INTELLECTUAL FROM KARABAKH Abdurrahim Hagverdiyev utstanding playwright and educator, talented prose writer, thoughtful publicist and satirist, Otheatrical figure, musical erudite, pioneer in conducting, translator, intellectual, scientist and teacher and, in a word, versatile intellectual Abdurrahim bay Hagverdiyev was a native of the mysterious, sacred and unforgettable Karabakh... He was born into the family of an impoverished nobleman Asad bay, who served as a translator at the district administration, in the village of Agbulag 6 kilometers from the city of Shusha on 17 May 1870. Having lost his father at the age of three, the boy was raised by his stepfather Hasanali bay Sadigov, an educated man who introduced him to the Russian lan- guage and taught him how to read and write. In 1880, the family moved to Shusha, the main city of Karabakh, where Abdurrahim entered the city’s six-grade school and a year later moved to a fully-fledged school. In 1890, he continued his studies in Tiflis, the then administra- tive and cultural center of the Caucasus. A year later, having received a certificate of maturity, he entered the Institute of Railway Engineers in St. Petersburg. While studying to be a railway engineer, he attended lectures on literature at the Eastern Faculty of St. Petersburg 4 www.irs-az.com 45, AUTUMN 2020 University as an external student. Hagverdiyev was seri- ously engaged in studying Persian and Arabic, as well as oriental philology. In five years, he successfully passed all course exams and received the diploma of an orien- tal philologist.

The session appealed to the Presidium of Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan and Armenia with the request that they treat with understanding the decision to sever the NKAR from Azerbaijan SSR and transfer it to Armenian SSR. It was also applied to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for the positive solution of this issue. February 22,1988 Two young Azerbaijanis were killed by Armenians in Askeran February 28,1988 Bloody outrages were perpetrated by Armenian instigators in Sumgait March 24, 1988 By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Azerbaijan SSR an official prohibition was imposed on activity of separatist organization "Krung" to be accused of breeding strife among the peoples. Abdurrahman Vezirov was elected the first secretary of the Central May 21,1988 Committee of the Azerbaijan Communist Party. The session of the Council of People's Deputies of the NKAR July 12, 1988 adopted an illegal decree on annexation of autonomous region to the Armenian SSR. July 18, 1988 The issue “About decisions of the Supreme Councils of the Armenian SSR and the Azerbaijan SSR regarding Nagorno- Karabakh” was discussed at the enlarged meeting of the Presidium of the USSR Supreme Council.
