O conhecimento da fauna aquática é um dos principais fatores para o manejo e conservação dos ecossistemas aquáticos, assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar ambientes em diferentes graus de antropização, através da estrutura da comunidade de Gerromorpha e Nepomorpha na Fazenda Baía Grande, região do Pantanal de Miranda-Aquidauana, Miranda – Mato Grosso do Sul. Os heterópteros aquáticos foram coletados em quatro áreas: Baía Grande, Açude e Ilha e Córrego. Para tais coletas utilizou-se a rede D – que possui uma área de 600 cm2 e malha de 300 µm. Para compreender a estrutura da comunidade de heterópteros, utilizaram-se os seguintes parâmetros: Índice de Diversidade de Shannon (logn), Equitabilidade de Shannon, Riqueza por Rarefação e Análise Multivariada de Similaridade ANOSIM. No total, foram coletados 12428 heterópteros aquáticos. The plant was identified as U. europaeus and con- firmed by a Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) nox-A survey of the site on 9 October revealed an infestation of ca. 19 m2 at about 457 m elevation in the Kamiloa Distr., ca. 6.2 km above Kamehameha Highway. SGMA seeks to achieve sustainability, which is defined as the absence of several undesirable results, including “depletions of interconnected surface water that have significant and unreasonable adverse impacts on beneficial users of surface water” (Water Code §10721). The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a science-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Like humans, plants and animals often rely on groundwater for survival, which is why TNC helped develop, and is now helping to implement, SGMA. Earlier this year, we launched the Groundwater Resource Hub, which is an online resource intended to help make it easier and cheaper to address environmental requirements under SGMA. As a first step in addressing when depletions might have an adverse impact, The Nature Conservancy recommends identifying the beneficial users of surface water, which include environmental users. This is a critical step, as it is impossible to define “significant and unreasonable adverse impacts” without knowing what is being impacted. To make this easy, we are providing this letter and the accompanying documents as the best available science on the freshwater species within the boundary of your groundwater sustainability agency (GSA).

International Biological Program May• 1974 ABSTRACT This paper is a systematic report and a biological analysis of the Mesoveliidae from Hawaiian caves. Most important is a new species of Speovelia Esaki, ~. sp. (Hawaii I.), described from material collected on moist walls in lava tubes. This apparently represents the world's first troglobitic heteropteran. Morphologically, all instars show lack of pigmentation, functionless eyes and prolongation of the appendages and head. Biologically, it is restricted to the dark zone of lava tubes. Notes on its biology are given. It also represents the first known endemic species of the family for the Hawaiian Islands. Another species, Mesovelia amoena Uhler, is troglophilic. This is the first record of this immigrant American species in the Hawaiian Islands. The remaining species in Hawaii, the immigrant'M· mulsanti White, has only been found in epigean situations. JOHNS RIVER MAINSTEM (references cited are listed in the “Literature Cited” section in the body of the chapter) Segment 8 This segment is located in the Upper St. Johns River Basin (USJRB) and major features include the river mainstem and Lakes Washington, Winder, and Poinsett. A very limited amount of benthic sampling has been conducted in this reach. Benthic communities in the major lakes were sampled once in 2001 by Stetson University investigators (Work and Gibbs Undated Report) with petite ponar grab at two locations in each lake. Communities in Lakes Winder and Poinsett were dominated (both abundance and biomass) by oligochaetes and midge larvae. The most abundant individual species were the chironomid midges Chironomus spp. and the phantom midge Chaoborus punctipennis. Oligochaetes and chironomids were also abundant in Lake Washington but were lower in relative abundance. Unionids (freshwater “mussels”) comprised a large fraction of the biomass in Lake Washington due to their size and were also abundant in that lake, along with the exotic Asian clam, Corbicula fluminea. The highest overall benthic invertebrate density and species richness was measured in Lakes Poinsett and Winder; the highest biomass was in Lake Washington due to the presence of mussels.
