The inspiration for the name came when the brewers were sitting in the sunshine at Thornbridge Hall, waiting for a brew to boil, talking about Halcyon days. 20 21 CASK OVERVIEW Cask beer undergoes secondary fermentation in the barrel, it’s not filtered or pasteurised but packaged straight from the brewing vessels. The beer matures and ripens, the live yeast working away to create carbonation and flavour. Brewers use ingredients which are fresh and natural, resulting in a drink that tastes natural and full of flavour. It is literally living as it continues to ferment in the cask, developing its flavour as it matures, ready to be poured. There is a real art to the production of cask beer, from selecting the correct yeast strain to the cellaring of beer in the pub. A skilfully brewed and lovingly looked after pint of cask beer is a wonderful thing. Cask beer is a quintessential British phenomenon and something we’re incredibly proud of as a UK craft brewer. Thornbridge started life as a cask brewery, cask Jaipur brought us our first awards, and we are bringing cask back to the forefront of our core range with our Year of Cask Beer 2018. 22 23 PEVEREL CRACKENDALE LIGHT AND QUAFFABLE FRUITY AND REFRESHING STYLE STYLE SINGLE HOPPED CITRA PALE SESSION IPA ABV ABV 5.2% 4.5% GOLDEN PALE OPAL FRUITS, CITRUS GRASSY, LEMON GRAPEFRUIT, BITTER, TROPICAL REFRESHING FRUIT TASTING NOTES TASTING NOTES A Session IPA brewed entirely with Mosaic hops from the A light pale ale with scents of opal fruits and a strong citrus USA! • Drunk Dry(Ish)!
Drunk dry(ish)! Sheffield’s 36th annual Steel City beer & Cider festival drew to a close on Saturday 2nd October and, despite very poor weather on the Friday leading to muddy conditions around the festival site, record numbers flocked into our marquees to try the range of over 100 real ales and 30 traditional Ciders & Perries. We would like to thank all the hard working volunteers that helped make the festival happen and overcame all the challenges thrown at us, thanks also to all the customers who came and helped drink us dry. By closing time on Saturday there were 5 beers left! Look out for details of the awards night when we celebrate the beers that won awards at the festival, otherwise we will be doing it all again for the national CAMRA members weekend in April - only indoors! The reason behind the trip was an invitation for myself and my Steel City Brewing co-brewer Gazza to brew a collaboration with Saints & Sinners, based at the Brew Wharf pub. A bit of net trawling found a hotel for £20 each, a train to London for £5 and a coach back for £3.
