14 Strategic Policing Plan 2012–2016 Performance

Measuring this Plan Performance 2011-12 he Government’s declared aim for policing continues to be reducing crime, and this is shared by Humberside Police. Our focus has been on the targets identified from key areas of concern for our Strategic Aim 1: Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour communities and the success we have had is clear from the results below. This has been achieved in Tspite of the very significant reduction in overall resources as a result of the Comprehensive Spending Review. With the changing environment, the Police Authority has reviewed its Aims and Objectives so that these are still focusseded on key areas and take into account our recent successes.

The level of recorded crime in the Humberside Police area has continued to fall over the last year, with a 1.4% reduction in overall crime compared to the previous year. This is the eighth successive year in which crime has fallen, meaning that the level is currently 46% lower than the level recorded in 2003/04. Within this fall, even bigger reductions have been achieved for those crime types which have been identified as being important to our communities, with domestic burglary down by 56%, theft of motor vehicle down by 81%, theft from vehicle down by 70%, robbery down by 73% and criminal damage down by 51% over this eight year period. An account of crimes occurring in your Strategic Aim 2: Quality of Service area each month can be found on the www.police.uk website. The fall in crime has corresponded with increases in public confidence in Humberside Police over the last year. The local telephone survey, commissioned by Humberside Police Authority, indicates that 87% of people living in the area have confidence in their local police. 72.4% of respondents to the survey feel that the Force deals effectively with crime and Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) in their neighbourhoods, whilst 70.5% agree that the Force can be relied on to be there when needed. The Police Authority and the Force will continue to utilise local confidence survey data to further understand what improves confidence in us and to monitor progress. Since 2008/09, Humberside Police has made a statistically significant improvement in its level of user satisfaction, with 83.7% of victims of crime now reporting that they are satisfied with the overall service provided by the Force, a rate which is closely aligned to the national picture.
