TBEY presents its 7th annual SUMMER DANCE CONCERT “A JOURNEY THROUGH DANCE”, with local youth dancers of all ages and backgrounds. It will feature solo and group performances from dancers and dance groups in Milwaukee. Viewers will take a trip through dance. The event featuring local youth dancers, professional dancers, dance groups, local artist, and students of the TBEY Dance Team. These talented individuals will get a chance to show off their talents to the Milwaukee community. The SUMMER DANCE CONCERT will take you on “A JOURNEY THROUGH DANCE”, reaching a diverse audience. The dance concert presents to the audience; modern, jazz, hip-hop, salsa, ballet, tap, step, Irish and African dance. It will allow the audience to experience different cultures and appreciate the art of dance. The goal is to promote dance awareness in Milwaukee and the Southeastern Wisconsin area. She is also Executive Director/ Founder of Tessa’s Black Entertainment & Youth Center, Inc. TBEY, Inc. is a tax-exempt nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization that provides after school & summer arts education, tutoring and mentoring programs for Milwaukee youth ages 6-19. TBEY was founded 13 years ago by Cole at the age of 16, after seeing the arts were being cut from many schools, she recognized the need for arts programs to keep Milwaukee youth involved in something positive. She has held a position in community relations at a leading company in Milwaukee, WI as well as a position within the arts field as an arts administrator. Active in the arts, youth and education, Cole has served as a member of the “Catch a Rising Star Foundation”, a foundation developed to assist the “arts” schools in Greater Milwaukee, and “Peace Learning Center”, a conflict resolution program for youth. She set on the Committee of Usher’s New Look Foundation for the Milwaukee Chapter, a summer camp that helps to empower youth through community service projects. Ms. Cole is an art and youth advocate. Contessa is a small business owner and is active in a number of community initiatives in Milwaukee. One initiative included her role as board advisor of “Janus College Preparatory Arts Academies, Inc.” an independent college preparatory and arts focus school. Cole received her Master’s Degree in Cultural Foundations of Education and Bachelor of Science degree in Community Education with a sub-major in community based organization and administrative leadership and a Business Minor from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. Ms. Cole plans to receive her PhD in Nonprofit Management and Leadership in June 2017. Ms. Cole is an active volunteer in a number of community organizations and has received several acknowledgments, such as receiving “The CEO of Me Business Award” from the Center of Teaching Entrepreneurship, Inc. as a young entrepreneur, which was recognized by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee and its members in November 2010. Cole is featured in the inaugural edition of the May 2011 Publication of Who’s who in Black Milwaukee. She is a member of the American for the Arts, The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) Greater Milwaukee Chapter, Milwaukee Artist Resource Network, WI Emerging Arts Leaders, National Arts Education, After School Alliance and Arts Wisconsin. As a mentor and guest lecturer for community, arts, youth and entrepreneurship programs, classes and workshops, Cole holds a strong commitment to making the Greater Milwaukee area a better place to live and work, with her involvements in several initiatives, activities and organizations to make this possible. PAIGE BELTON Age: 10 • Years with TBEY: 2 I dance because I like to move and express myself and it’s just fun to do. I also want to be a choreographer when I grow up. Music inspires me to dance and seeing others dance, makes me want to dance. They are amazing, the teachers are great. Our teachers are fierce! SAMOND BUGGS Age: • Years with TBEY: 2 Hola! I love to dance because it helps me express my emotions. When I was younger I went through a lot of trials, dancing was the only way I was able to get through those trials. Ever since I started dancing and expressing myself I have become a stronger and independent young lady. Being in TBEY, I have made a new family and lots of friends. NEVAEH CAUSEY Age: 10 • Years with TBEY: 1 Dance is fun and I like and I like to dance at TBEY. My mom inspires me to dance because I would always dance around the house. The dancers and the teachers at TBEY are awesome! AARIONA HOWARD Age: 8 • Years with TBEY: 1 I dance because it is fun and cool. Music inspires me to dance. My older cousin, Briana inspired me to dance—since she is a professional at ballet, if she can do it, I could too! It is a great place for myself and others to be.
