I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

For CY 2015, a total of seventeen (17) Mining Applications were denied, eleven (11) were endorsed/approved and two (2) were withdrawn for issuance of mining contracts/permits including areas within mineral reservations and other related permits.

MGB RO-6 has monitored/audited approved mining contracts in compliance with the implementation of approved Work Program, Safety, Health, Environment and Social Programs. A total of forty-five (45) permit areas/projects with Approved Work Programs were monitored. Fifty-six (56) Integrated SHES monitoring for approved mining contracts were conducted. Forty-three (43) companies that complied with their Safety and Health Programs were monitored. Complaints investigated by MGB RO-6 totaled to eight(8).One (1) case for illegal mining was filed. Ten (10) Cease and Desist Orders were issued.

As for Information, Education and Communication Campaign Activities, MGB RO-6 has clarified issues and disseminated information through fourteen (14)radio/TV guesting, and published a total of eighteen(18)press releases through the MGB-6 website and print media.

Under the National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program, three new activities were conducted: two (2) Vulnerability Risk Assessments, two (2) Updating of the 1:10,000 scale geohazard maps, and three (3) Detailed Karst Subsidence (Sinkhole) Hazard Mapping and Assessment.

For CY 2015, the total obligation incurred amounted toP37,272,711.10or 98.00 %fund utilization.

B.2.a GEOHAZARD ASSESSMENTS

The National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program has been one of the priority projects of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. The aforesaid project started with the 1:50,000 scale mapping and assessment of critical areas from CY 2006 to CY 2010, and 1:10,000 scale from CY 2011 to CY 2014. For CY 2015, there were three (3) new activities under this project, to wit: 19 1. Vulnerability Risk Assessment (VRA); 2. Updating of the 1:10,000 scale geohazard maps; and 3. Detailed Karst Subsidence (Sinkhole) Hazard Mapping and Assessment

The Geosciences Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Region 6 has fully accomplished all its targets for the aforesaid activities. Assessment of relocation/evacuation sites for all the municipalities/cities affected by Typhoon Yolanda was conducted as part of the activity under geohazard mapping and assessment and as per Administrative Order No. 44 dated October 28, 2014 and Joint DENR-DILG-DND-DPWH-DOST Memorandum Circular No. 2014-01 dated November 5, 2014. There were thirty (30) proposed relocation sites assessed. Groundwater Resources Assessment was conducted in the Municipality of Kalibo, Aklan and Bago City, Negros Occidental. There were seventy (70) wells assessed in the Municipality of Kalibo, Aklan and one hundred seventy two (172) wells assessed in Bago City, Negros Occidental. Water samples from these wells were tested in terms of their physical and chemical properties. For this year, groundwater resources assessment was done together with georesistivity survey using the newly acquired georesistivity meter of the office.
