Classic Poetry Series Ram Prasad Bismil - poems - Publication Date: 2013 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Ram Prasad Bismil(11 June 1897 - 19 December 1927) Ram Prasad Bismil (Hindi: ??? ?????? '???????') was an Indian revolutionary who participated in Mainpuri Conspiracy of 1918, and the Kakori conspiracy of 1925, both against British Empire. As well as being a freedom fighter, he was also a patriotic poet. Ram, Agyat and Bismil were known as his pen names which he used in Urdu and Hindi poetry. But, he became popular with the last name "Bismil" only. He was associated with Arya Samaj where he got inspiration from Satyarth Prakash, a book written by Swami Dayanand Saraswati. He also had a confidential connection with Lala Har Dayal through his guru Swami Somdev, who was a renowned preacher of Arya Samaj. Bismil was one of the founder members of the revolutionary organisation Hindustan Republican Association. Bhagat Singh praised him as a great poet- writer of Urdu and Hindi, who had also translated the books Catherine from English and Bolshevikon Ki Kartoot from Bengali. Several inspiring patriotic verses are attributed to him. The famous poem "Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna" is also popularly attributed to him, although some progressive writers have remarked that 'Bismil' Azimabadi actually wrote the poem and Ram Prasad Bismil immortalized it. Early life Ram Prasad Bismil was born at Shahjahanpur, a historical city of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) in a religious Hindu family of Murlidhar and Moolmati. Grandfather's migration His grandfather Narayan Lal was migrated from his ancestral village Barbai and settled at a very distant place Shahjahanpur in U.P.

C H A P T E R I I IN MAINPURI FORMATION OF REVOLUTIONARY SOCIETY *******************~************************~****** + The first effort towards organizing a secret revolutionary society in the district of Mainpuri was made by Pandit Dammi Lal Pandey. When Dammi Lal was a student of the Government High School, he was greatly influenced by the patriotism of the Head Master, Babu Chota Lal, who was { an Arya Samajist. 1 The Arya Samaj was a body throbbing with the message and mission to further the cause of Indian Nationalism and was to a great extent a revolutionary 2 force too. The virtuosity of the Head Master exercised an appreciable influence on all the students of the school. Consequently a wave of patriotism had started flowing in the School. The students fell into the habit of reflecting on the trials of the Bengal revolutionarism, many of whom were being sentenced to death or transportation. Such accounts served to fan the passions and increased the 1 • Indra, Brabmachari & Sinha, Indradev, ~nti Ke Mandir Mein, p.54. 2. Further a keen perusal of revolutionary literature, particularly the books 'Guiseppe Mazzini' written by Lala Lajpat Rai and 'Anandmath' by Bankim Chandra Chatterji, provided added inspiration towards revolutionary ideals. As a matter of fact, it was on the basis of these books, that Dammi lal and his associates planned their programme and started imparting revolutionary education to the people.

  • History of Modern India" by Bipan Chandra, Orient Black Swan Publication (It Is a Thin Book and Is a Republication of the Old Ncerts, Read Either of These)
HISTORY of Mains 2016 MODERN INDIA © Nitin Sangwan Beginner’s Note: It is advisable that you read Old NCERTs absolutely thoroughly or may read "History of Modern India" by Bipan Chandra, Orient Black Swan Publication (It is a thin book and is a republication of the old NCERTs, read either of these). They cover almost all the topics. Don’t miss even a single word. (Attempt all the questions which are given at the end of those chapters in case you read NCERTs. It will also serve you as a sort of answer writing practice as well). After reading these, you may refer to the new NCERTS as well. Why new NCERTs? Because they are more graphic and have an interactive style. At times they are more engaging than the older ones and had explained a few topics in a much lucid manner. Google those events/topics which are not adequately covered in these (but are mentioned just in a few lines), but never go too deep into that as you just need to have a conceptual clarity about that particular event. After doing that, you may refer these notes (though I have tried to cover everything in these notes). I have tried to arrange my these notes as per the requirement of the new syllabus of Mains Exam and have comeup with these after intensive study of different resources, so these notes should be of special help to you. Always keep things manageable. It is not so important that how much you read, but how well you read. Keep in mind that whatever you read, you have to revise that also at times of mains exam.

,., ·1 **~************************************************* CHAPTER X I c 0 N c L u s I 0 N s **************************************************** --- -------· 404 The story of the Mainpuri Conspiracy reveals an interesting and important episode in the history of the Revolutionary Movement in the United Provinces. ? The first indication of the existence of a conspiracy was the discovery in March 1 91 6 of Dammi Lal and Deb Narain importing arms into Agra from the Gwalior State. Police investigations had disclosed that they were helped to do this by Genda Lal. However, the prosecution of the case was withdrawn by the Agra Police and the opportunity was lost of discovering the conspiracy and nipping it in the bud. Then the first disclosure of i:h e objects of the conspiracy was obtained from Jaipur in December 1916 when Raj Bahadur, a student of the Maharaja College received a letter from Shea Krishna from Mainpuri asking him "to incite some reliable persons with a view to enlist in the 'Santan Society' and to plunder the rich and murder the enemies of the cause". Enquiries were institu ted in Mainpuri which failed to make any fresh discovery apart from the suspicion that Shea Krishna was a youth of .. advanced political views and a likely man to be trying to t- form a revolutionary party. Again in July 1917, a dacoit of Etawah, Nikson -- 405 Singh, convicted in a Kanpur dacoity case made a statement before the commandant of the Military Police at Port Blair, alleging that Genda Lal, a School Master of Auraiya in the Etawah district, made bombs and kept arms and bombs in a cellar of his house at Auraiya.

Nehru Bal Pustakalaya R K Tandon Illustrations Arup Kumar Gupta 1 ISBN 978-81-237-5550-2 First Edition 2009 Reprints 2012, 2014, 2019 (Saka 1941) © R.K. Tandon ` 170.00 Published by the Director, National Book Trust, India Nehru Bhawan, 5 Institutional Area, Phase-II Vasant Kunj, New Delhi-110070 www.nbtindia.gov.in Preface On 10 May 1857 there was a spark of revolution in India against the British rule. It was crushed because it was not organised. Thirty years later, organisations were formed to fight against the British imperialism in India. India got independence in 1947, exactly ninety years later and after lot of sacrifices by Indians. While Mahatma Gandhi fought the British Empire with his noble method of Ahimsa or non-violence, there were revolutionaries who gave their lives for the cause of independence, fighting the British Empire. We should not forget the sacrifice of these revolutionaries who accepted death whole-heartedly without any grudge against anybody and set an example for others. This book is about the famous young revolutionaries who went to the gallows laughing and singing. Nothing could deter them from their committed task; neither money nor the tearful affection of their family members. They proved their mettle and left no stone unturned in bringing freedom to India. I hope that the present generation will learn from the sacrifices of these handful youngsters. My father, famous writer and freedom fighter, Late P. D. Tandon helped and guided me in writing this book. He was a journalist-cum-author of repute. His name appears on forty-nine books written in five Indian languages.
