It would be great to see everyone back at the Club ROUND 10 Saturday night after their game as it’s the last games for 2007/2008 for the senior sides. However we still have A1 PREMIER – ROUND 10 VS SHOC AT SHOC quite a few club functions over the next few weeks with the Player Medal Count conducted on Sunday afternoon Round 10 saw the A1 side take on SHOC on their home 2nd March. With showers on and off all (Only if your financial) Friday night obviously the big fella up stairs was also not aware of our team rule of a DRY Friday night, hey CJ! After turning up to the ground and inspecting the pitch we thought conditions where going to be OK if we got through the first hour. The assumption was made that the pitch should flatten out. With a long line up Matho (34 last week) at 9, we knew if we got off to a good start we should get the job done. After a 20 run opening stand the man of the moment walked to the center. I was lucky enough to be at the other end of the pitch when CJ arrived. I remember thinking to myself CJ actually looks like a white version of Viv Richards, shirt wide open, just the cap on and walking around with some kind of attitude. The man had a real aura about him. After a second wicket partnership of 96 and knocking up his fifty with Chop at the crease by his CJ hits another ball to the boundary from outside side, reaching 49 and not getting the fifty again. It was off on his way to 109* against SHOC. up to our own Star Trek fan to get CJ over the line for a very well made 100 and to all but secure the Scores: Walkerville 3/248 (C Jervies 109*, B Duncan Walkerville 1st XI stay in the premier division, great 57, M Reid 49 ) defeated SHOC (W Walker 3/33). work CJ. Passing SHOC's score just 2 down the day was finished with Walkerville 3 down for 246 and our A3– ROUND 10 VS MODBURY AT own white Viv on 109 not out. It was great to see the WALKERVILLE side finally hit its straps in the batting department and play to its full potentional. It was also a great example Come from behind win. of the gap between Walkerville and a side that now will We one the toss and elected to bat. We struggled be relegated. during the day and were all out for 109 off 37 overs on the stroke of tea. Kerran top scored with 22 while Hutchie, Sif and Joe all made 18.

The Cats had 40 overs to inflict some damage. What happened after tea was quite amazing - Modbury were cruising at 3 for 74 with 12 overs to go when they lost 7 for 11. All out for 85. A great team effort. The best with the ball was Guru with 5 for 30 and Darcy 3 for 9.

Day 2, the Cats batted for 55 overs and declared at 5 for Stewie eye’s of yet another boundary at SHOC. 248 with all batsman getting a start. Ben Nicol 78, Bish 45, Dave 39* and Mal 33* were the best with the bat.

Modbury were 4 for 194 off 22 overs with everybody getting a bowl. Georgie finsihed with a well deserved 2 for 38. Even Dave, Sif and Kerran rolled the arm over with Kerran claiming a wicket and has now joined the elite club of wicket keepers who think they can bowl.

A great result for the B grade and with one more game remaining, look like avoiding relegation.

Scores: Walkerville 109 (K Wingard 22) and 5/248 (B Nicol 78, R Bishop 45, D Farrell 39*, M Ayliffe Ben takes control during his 57 on the weekend. 33) defeated Modbury 85 (L Smith 5/30, D Wright 3/9) and 4/194 (J Foreman 2/38).

B2– ROUND 10 VS AHOS AT AHOS LOC – ROUND 16 VS CONCORDIA AT CHARLES Again we lost the toss and were faced with a long hot CAMPBELL day in the field, against top side in the competition, Scores: Walkerville 99 lost to Concordia 7/256 undefeated thus far. The pitch looked to be a belter, the ground was very dry and grass was scarce in some ROUND 17 VS OLD IGNATIONS AT CHARLES parts. It is fair to say they got away from us early, and CAMPBELL runs were coming pretty freely. We missed a few early Scores: Walkerville 79 (D Hamalainen 41) lost to chances too which cost us quite a few runs. In fact one Old Ignations 5/82 (P Roper 3/14) of their openers was dropped from the last ball of one over, and the first of the next. Very frustrating. You DARCY AND PORNO’S EXCELLENT cannot afford to give good batsmen second (or third) chances. Fortunately for us the damage was limited as ADVENTURE that particular batsman was run out spectacularly by "Orby" with a direct hit from cover. There is not much else you can say about the day - not many highlights from our point of view as they piled on 400 plus with two of their batsmen scoring centuries (smashing is perhaps a better term for the first one). Dan Powell bowled well again in a long spell, despite a wounded leg (I think those whites may have to be thrown out - there is no way that blood will come out is there?). Sam bowled well again too and cleaned up the tail at the end.

Day 2 started with us hopeful of batting out the 80 overs to see how close we could get to their mammoth score. Of course it was a very nice day, nothing like the hot conditions that we had to field in the week before! Anyway the signs were good early, but following a mix-up "Judas" was tragically run out. Nelson didn't let that get to him as he and "Magnum" started putting together a nice partnership until "Magnum" got out after he was well set. "Sprunga" batted pretty well and carried us through to tea while fell around him. It was great to see Darcy and Porno on their trip to We were 3/97 shortly before tea. At tea we were 7/101 the Richmond supporters day in Melbourne were and looking down the barrel of following on. We able to atleast pose with a cardboard cut out of Big managed to keep them out for about 15 overs after tea, Richo!! but fell well and truly short of anything resembling a Some might say he plays better than the real thing! "decent" score, particularly when you consider how good the pitch was for batting. Very disappointing.

AHOS decided to have a smash rather than send us back in, which suited us anyway in our quest for bonus points. We managed to pick up 6 wickets which was quite handy in the end. Michael "Tall" bowled well and was rewarded with 4 of those wickets.

Hopefully we can put in a much better performance in the final game for the season next week, which is at home.

Scores: Walkerville 134 (N Ruiz 24, J Leak 21) lost to AHOS 434 (S Bentley 3/60,J Leak 3/103) and 6/125 (M Smith 4/42). Both Porno and Darcy were very impressed with C2– ROUND 10 VS FLINDERS UNIVERSITY AT Terry Wallace especially Porno who offered Plough HOOPER a job when his contract end’s with Richmond. Scores: Walkerville forfeit to Flinders University Plough apparently said he would call after Round 6!!!!!!

QUIZ QUESTIONS THE GREAT DEBATE – White’s vs Creams

1. How old is ? 2. How many more runs does Jimmy Maher need to score 10,000 first class runs? 3. Who were the two players inducted in to this year’s Cricket Hall Of Fame? 4. What year did Alan Border get inducted into the Hall Of Fame? 5. What was Sri Lanka called prior to changing it’s name and in what year? (Turn to the back for the answers)

Ah boys, I feel it my duty to step in and take control of PLAYER MILESTONES this debate and end the ramblings of other high profile personalities of world cricket. Will Walker played his 75th game in his 8th season at As the current supplier of the Walkerville Cricket Club Walkerville in the A1 triumph over SHOC and in doing apparel I only buy white’s for the boys. Don’t worry boys we’ll get to Hawaii somehow!!!!!

It was a day of milestones at SHOC with Leo Panzarino There has been talk that creams come out cleaner in the also jumping on the bandwagon by capturing his 100th wash, well let me put that theory to bed. As most of you wicket for Walkerville. Panz now has 100 club wickets know I like to throw myself around the cricket field at 17.84 apiece. standing at gully whether I get near the ball or not, so at the end of a long day my white’s have grass stains everywhere. Rach gives them a wash for me in Nappi San which works an absolute treat and has them sparkling the next day. Recently she has bought a couple of cases of this stuff and I thought it was because she was told how fantastic I have been in the field this year with jumping of the ground and stopping the cricket balls however I did feel a little embarrassed when she told me she was actually buying it for our new born baby “Ruby, Anne”. Anyway, when I’m all dressed in my white’s I remind myself of Michael Sifkus – Officer Poncharelli from the hit series “Chips”. He had My next professional sprint meet will be this years this white suit that he wore in series 3 which made him Stawell Gift. Wish me luck!!! creams for the Poms and the whites for the winners!” Us legends of the game have to stick together!!!!!! Go Cats. Leo “The Dark Arabian” Panzarino FINALS FEVER PARTNERSHIPS

With no Walkerville teams qualifying for finals in this seasons Saturday Competition it's interesting to reflect on the last time that occurred. It was back in 1997/98 when the Premier Grade finished 10th, the B2s 11th, the Ds 9th and the LOCs 12th. The previous year had seen the As finish 3rd and the Bs lose a heartbreaking GF to Gepps at Gepps, which prompted the retirement of Kym Reid (the 2nd of his 3 retirements to date), Mark Paholski & Graham Maddern. The As lost a lot of experience with Rauf Chaudry, Gary Coombe and Pat Leonello departing and also suffered from having Damion Reeves and Dave Farrell only play 3 and 6 games respectively in 97/98. The mainstays of the 97/98 1st X1 side were Mal CJ was batting so well on the weekend that Chop Ayliffe, Andrew Baker, Craig Brooks (416 runs @ 52), thought he’d try his luck from the same end, but Simon Golley (18 wkts @ 20.5), Eddie Graham van der maybe he should have waited until the end of the Byl, Rob Rutter & Pat Silcox. over. Of course we shouldn't forget a few of our Veterans who did bring some silverware home to the club this year in the Turf20s comp with Craig Brooks, Cory Drew, John Lamp joining Bruce & Darcy in that side. There is also a touch of irony involved in the fact that 97/98 was Pat Silcox's only season at Walkerville and it was he who recommended current 1st year /Coach Ben Duncan to the club. We can only hope that Duncs has more staying power that Pat displayed and hangs around to see the mighty Cats back where they belong experiencing finals cricket in the last weeks of March.
