With showers on and off all (Only if your financial) Friday night obviously the big fella up stairs was also not aware of our team rule of a DRY Friday night, hey CJ! After turning up to the ground and inspecting the pitch we thought conditions where going to be OK if we got through the first hour. The assumption was made that the pitch should flatten out. With a long batting line up Matho (34 last week) at 9, we knew if we got off to a good start we should get the job done. After a 20 run opening stand the man of the moment walked to the center. I was lucky enough to be at the other end of the pitch when CJ arrived. I remember thinking to myself CJ actually looks like a white version of Viv Richards, shirt wide open, just the cap on and walking around with some kind of attitude. The man had a real aura about him. After a second wicket partnership of 96 and knocking up his fifty with Chop at the crease by his CJ hits another ball to the boundary from outside side, reaching 49 and not getting the fifty again. It was off on his way to 109* against SHOC. up to our own Star Trek fan to get CJ over the line for a very well made 100 and to all but secure the Scores: Walkerville 3/248 (C Jervies 109*, B Duncan Walkerville 1st XI stay in the premier division, great 57, M Reid 49 ) defeated SHOC (W Walker 3/33). work CJ. Passing SHOC's score just 2 down the day was finished with Walkerville 3 down for 246 and our A3– ROUND 10 VS MODBURY AT own white Viv on 109 not out. It was great to see the WALKERVILLE side finally hit its straps in the batting department and play to its full potentional. It was also a great example Come from behind win. of the gap between Walkerville and a side that now will We one the toss and elected to bat. We struggled be relegated. during the day and were all out for 109 off 37 overs on the stroke of tea. Kerran top scored with 22 while Hutchie, Sif and Joe all made 18. The Cats had 40 overs to inflict some damage. What happened after tea was quite amazing - Modbury were cruising at 3 for 74 with 12 overs to go when they lost 7 for 11. All out for 85. A great team effort. The best with the ball was Guru with 5 for 30 and Darcy 3 for 9. Day 2, the Cats batted for 55 overs and declared at 5 for Stewie eye’s of yet another boundary at SHOC. 248 with all batsman getting a start. Ben Nicol 78, Bish 45, Dave 39* and Mal 33* were the best with the bat. Modbury were 4 for 194 off 22 overs with everybody getting a bowl. Georgie finsihed with a well deserved 2 for 38. Even Dave, Sif and Kerran rolled the arm over with Kerran claiming a wicket and has now joined the elite club of wicket keepers who think they can bowl. A great result for the B grade and with one more game remaining, look like avoiding relegation. Scores: Walkerville 109 (K Wingard 22) and 5/248 (B Nicol 78, R Bishop 45, D Farrell 39*, M Ayliffe Ben takes control during his 57 on the weekend. 33) defeated Modbury 85 (L Smith 5/30, D Wright 3/9) and 4/194 (J Foreman 2/38). B2– ROUND 10 VS AHOS AT AHOS LOC – ROUND 16 VS CONCORDIA AT CHARLES Again we lost the toss and were faced with a long hot CAMPBELL day in the field, against top side in the competition, Scores: Walkerville 99 lost to Concordia 7/256 undefeated thus far. The pitch looked to be a belter, the ground was very dry and grass was scarce in some ROUND 17 VS OLD IGNATIONS AT CHARLES parts. It is fair to say they got away from us early, and CAMPBELL runs were coming pretty freely. We missed a few early Scores: Walkerville 79 (D Hamalainen 41) lost to chances too which cost us quite a few runs. In fact one Old Ignations 5/82 (P Roper 3/14) of their openers was dropped from the last ball of one over, and the first of the next. Very frustrating. You DARCY AND PORNO’S EXCELLENT cannot afford to give good batsmen second (or third) chances. Fortunately for us the damage was limited as ADVENTURE that particular batsman was run out spectacularly by "Orby" with a direct hit from cover. There is not much else you can say about the day - not many highlights from our point of view as they piled on 400 plus with two of their batsmen scoring centuries (smashing is perhaps a better term for the first one). Dan Powell bowled well again in a long spell, despite a wounded leg (I think those whites may have to be thrown out - there is no way that blood will come out is there?). Sam bowled well again too and cleaned up the tail at the end. Day 2 started with us hopeful of batting out the 80 overs to see how close we could get to their mammoth score. Of course it was a very nice day, nothing like the hot conditions that we had to field in the week before! Anyway the signs were good early, but following a mix-up "Judas" was tragically run out.
