Community Benefit Program funding for Kimba

The first tranche of $2 million in grants funding is making its way to successful projects. The latest round of the Community Benefit Program will support organisations across the Kimba region to bolster their economic future. ARWA’s community liaison officer, Maree Barford, spoke with Ashleigh Inglis who instigated a Community Benefit Program first round project to fence the Lions/Apex Central Park playground. Ashleigh said local families are now using the playground more than ever. “Almost every Kimba child’s birthday party is now celebrated at the playground, because it such a wonderful place to play,” Ashleigh said.

Ashleigh had identified some improvements, including a new fence that would make a big difference to the playground and enhance safety. She approached Kimba District Council and they worked as a team to apply for the Community Benefit Program grant.

“Council was right on board from day one as safety for our kids is a high priority in the Kimba community,” she said.

“The result from our successful grant is a safe space which families and community members can all enjoy. With the new fencing in place, it’s great to see children and parents enjoying the space without worrying about the roads on both sides of the playground.”
