The information is based on the survey to dung localities of the state during the various years from 2007-2011. A total number of 172 collections have been observed, growing as saprobes on dung of various domesticated and wild herbivorous animals in pastures, open areas, zoological parks, and on dung heaps along roadsides or along village ponds, etc. High coprophilous mushrooms’ diversity has been established and a number of rare and sensitive species recorded with the present study. The observed collections belong to 95 species spread over 20 genera and 07 families of the order Agaricales. The present paper discusses the distribution of these mushrooms in Punjab among different seasons, regions, habitats, and growing habits along with their economic utility, habitat management and conservation. This is the first attempt in which various dung localities of the state has been explored systematically to ascertain the diversity, seasonal availability, distribution and ecology of coprophilous mushrooms.

    L. Pecoraro, C. Perini, E. Salerni & V. De Dominicis Contribution to the knowledge of the mycological flora of the Pigelleto Nature Reserve, Mt. Amiata (Italy) Abstract Pecoraro, L., Perini, C., Salerni, E. & De Dominicis, V.: Contribution to the knowledge of the mycological flora of the Pigelleto Nature Reserve, Mt. Amiata (Italy). — Fl. Medit 17: 143-163. 2007. — ISSN 1120-4052. The Pigelleto Nature Reserve, situated to the south-east of Mt. Amiata (Tuscany, Italy), is char- acterized by a relict nucleus of Abies alba Mill. at low altitude, which is probably an autochtho- nous ecotype. The mycoflora list reported here is the result of past studies and observations car- ried out during 2005-2006. Among the species of macrofungi accounted for (426, belonging to 144 genera), 158 entities were collected for the first time during this recent study. Introduction This work represents a contribution to the mycological knowledge of Pigelleto Nature Reserve (Mt. Amiata, central-southern Tuscany, Italy, Fig. 1). It constitutes part of the “Life04NAT IT/000191” Project concerning the conservation of Abies alba Miller, which includes many different studies to analyze the various natural components of the area under investigation (Pecoraro & al. in press). The woods in the Amiata area are characterized by the alternation of Quercus cerris L. and Fagus sylvatica L., even though there are also mixed areas of mostly Carpinus betu- lus L. or Fraxinus sp. pl. (De Dominicis & Loppi 1992). Moreover, all of the forested areas have been subject to reforestation, mainly carried out in the first half of the 1900s due to the passage of the forestry law in 1923.

Helsinki. ISSN 0453-3402 Mainly based on collections from Fennoscandia, Estonia, and Central Europe, four species of the genus Phellinus Que!. (Hymenochaetaceae), all belonging to the P. igniarius (L.:Fr.) Que!. group, are shown to occur on Betula L. These species are P. nigricans (Fr.) P.Karsten, P. cine reus (Niemela) Fischer, P. laevigatus (Fr. ex P.Karsten) Bourd. & Galz., and P. lundellii Niemela. The occurrence of P. igniarius and P. alni (Bond. ) Parm. on Betula remains in doubt. P. alni, P. nigricans, P. cinereus, P. laevigatus, and P. lundellii were characteri zed by pairing tests of single spore mycelia and RFLP (restriction fragment length polymorphism) data of enzymatically amplified ribosomal DNA. A unique RFLP phenotype was assignable to each species except P. nigricans, which was identical with P. alni. Distribution of the taxa is throughout the area under study; however, P. nigricans seems to be limited to Fennoscandia. Two stocks from North America pro ed to represent P. cinereus. Pairing relationships between P. nigricans, P. cinereus, and P. alni were examined in detail and were found to differ according to the geographic origin of the stocks. P. nigricans was positive in numerous pairings with P. alni from Fennoscandia, Estonia, and Central Europe. In addition, it is positive with P.

  • The Phylogeny of Plant and Animal Pathogens in the Ascomycota
Physiological and Molecular Plant Pathology (2001) 59, 165±187 doi:10.1006/pmpp.2001.0355, available online at http://www.idealibrary.com on MINI-REVIEW The phylogeny of plant and animal pathogens in the Ascomycota MARY L. BERBEE* Department of Botany, University of British Columbia, 6270 University Blvd, Vancouver, BC V6T 1Z4, Canada (Accepted for publication August 2001) What makes a fungus pathogenic? In this review, phylogenetic inference is used to speculate on the evolution of plant and animal pathogens in the fungal Phylum Ascomycota. A phylogeny is presented using 297 18S ribosomal DNA sequences from GenBank and it is shown that most known plant pathogens are concentrated in four classes in the Ascomycota. Animal pathogens are also concentrated, but in two ascomycete classes that contain few, if any, plant pathogens. Rather than appearing as a constant character of a class, the ability to cause disease in plants and animals was gained and lost repeatedly. The genes that code for some traits involved in pathogenicity or virulence have been cloned and characterized, and so the evolutionary relationships of a few of the genes for enzymes and toxins known to play roles in diseases were explored. In general, these genes are too narrowly distributed and too recent in origin to explain the broad patterns of origin of pathogens. Co-evolution could potentially be part of an explanation for phylogenetic patterns of pathogenesis. Robust phylogenies not only of the fungi, but also of host plants and animals are becoming available, allowing for critical analysis of the nature of co-evolutionary warfare. Host animals, particularly human hosts have had little obvious eect on fungal evolution and most cases of fungal disease in humans appear to represent an evolutionary dead end for the fungus.

(2016) Species ofPeziza s. str. on water-soaked wood with special reference to a new species, P. nordica, from central Norway. – Sydowia 68: 173–185. Peziza oliviae, P. lohjaoensis, P. montirivicola and a new species from Norway form a well-supported clade within the Peziza s. str. group based on study of the internal transcribed spacer + 5.8S rRNA gene, large subunit rRNA gene and the 6–7 region of the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase II gene. Like P. oliviae and P. montirivicola, the new species, P. nordica, is distinctly stipi- tate and occurs on wood that has been inundated by fresh water. These species also have paraphyses with yellow vacuolar inclu- sions. They fruit early in the season or at high elevations and are presumed to be saprobic. A discussion of application of the name Peziza is given. Keywords: Ascomycota, molecular phylogeny, Pezizales, taxonomy. The present work was begun to determine the Schwein.) Fr., Cudoniella clavus (Alb. & Schwein.) identity of a collection made by one of us (RK) in Dennis and frequently Scutellinia scutellata (L.) August 2014. This large, orange brown to brown, Lambotte.
