2008 Athletic Wall of Honor “Old Timers” Inductees

Sam Brown (Coach at Manor High School from 1928-1944) Sam coached , , Track & Field, and . He was best known for his success as the basketball & baseball coach. His track team won the Tri-County Championship in 1928. In 1942 his swim team won the Lancaster County Championship.

Gerald Dunkle (Class of 1953) Gerry was a three-sport athlete in Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. In 1952 his baseball team was Section and Lancaster County High School Championship. Gerry’s soccer team was the Lancaster County Scholastic League Champs in 1952. In 1953 his basketball team was Section and County Championships. He also played soccer and baseball at F & M College. Gerry was invited to tryout for the Phillies and Dodgers baseball teams in 1953.

Richard Erisman (Class of 1952) Dick was a three-sport athlete at Manor High School, where he participated in Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. His soccer team won the Lancaster County Championship in 1951. His basketball team was League Co-Champs. Dick was also a member of the Basketball & Baseball teams at Millersville College.

Harry Frey (Class of 1958) Harry is well known in the Penn Manor community as an outstanding athlete and coach. He participated in Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball during his High School career. As a High School athlete, Harry was named 1st team All-County in both Basketball and Soccer. Harry continued to soccer and basketball at West Chester University. After graduation from college, Harry returned to Penn Manor as a teacher and coach. While at Penn Manor, Harry coached many sports teams. His boys’ basketball teams were County Champions in 1971 and ’72 and he was Coach of the Year in 1972. His 1984 girls team won the LL League Championship. Harry was inducted into the Susquehanna Valley Chapter of the Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.

Abram E. Herr (Class of 1921) Abe played baseball and basketball for Manor Township High School. He graduated from Millersville Normal School in 1923 and taught and coached at McCaskey High School for 43 years. He coached swimming for 16 years where his teams were 154 – 42. He was head track coach for 6 years where his teams won 5 district titles. His star track athlete was Barney Ewell who was perhaps the finest sprinter to ever come out of Lancaster County, winning 2 silver medals and a gold at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Abe also coached football and basketball.

Ivan Stehman (Class of 1923) Ivan played Football, Baseball, and Basketball at Manor High School. Ivan continued his athletic career at Millersville Normal School where he participated on the football and basketball teams. In 1997 he was posthumously inducted into the Millersville University’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Ivan also coached the Millersville State College football team from 1938-1941. His 1940 team is the only undefeated football squad in the school’s history.

Arthur Herr (Class of 1923) Art was a three-sport athlete considered by many to be one of Manor’s finest. He lettered four years for the Basketball, Football, and Baseball teams at Manor High. Art continued his athletic career at Millersville Normal School where he played Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

Kenneth Herr (Class of 1939) Ken played Basketball and Baseball for Manor High School. After graduation, Ken attended Millersville State College where he played on the football and basketball teams. His 1939-1940 basketball team was undefeated as was his 1940-1941 football team. Ken coached and served as Athletic Director for New Holland High School for many years after graduation from college. He also coached basketball for 14 years and baseball for 5 years.

P. Robert Herr (Class of 1951) Bob earned varsity letters in Basketball and Baseball for Penn Manor High School. The 1950-51 baseball team was Lancaster County Champions, and finished their season undefeated. At Millersville University, Bob played first base for the varsity baseball team. Bob was inducted into the Susquehanna Valley Sports Hall of Fame. From 1952-1958, Bob played for a Millersville team in the Lancaster City/County Baseball League. Bob also had an outstanding coaching career. He became head baseball coach at McCaskey High from 1961-1973. During that time, his teams won seven Central Penn Championships. Bob was chosen as “Coach of the Year” for the 1966 & 1969 seasons.

Charles “Bing” Miller (Class of 1943) Charles lettered in Basketball and Baseball when he attended Manor Township High School. After graduation, Charles signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and was sent to the Johnson City Team for the 1943 season. Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army and was sent to Colorado Springs where he played on the baseball team from 1944-1945. After being discharged from the Army in 1946, Charles returned to play baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. Charles continued to play baseball in the City-County League from 1947-1953.

Clair Jenkins (Class of 1958) Clair was a four-sport athlete in Soccer, Basketball, Track & field, and Baseball. After graduation from High School, Clair signed with Detroit in 1958 to play baseball. He later signed with the Cleveland Indians in 1959. Clair continued to play baseball with the Quarryville County League for 4 years. He played in the county for 20 years. Clair has been umpiring baseball for High School, Legion, and Summer Leagues for 20 years.

Robert Lehr (Class of 1953) Bob participated in Soccer, Basketball, Swimming, and Baseball while in High School. His soccer team won the Section II Championship in 1953 and he was selected as a 1st team All-Star. Bob’s basketball team won Section II title and the baseball County Championship in 1953. Bob participated in swimming 2 years and was a member of a relay team that set a county record. After graduation from High School, Bob continued to play sports at Millersville State College where he participated in Baseball and Basketball.

Herbert Charles Otthofer (Class of 1949) Herb was a three-sport athlete at Penn Manor High School where he participated in Soccer, Basketball, and Track & Field. Herb was a member of the 1948-1949 basketball team, which won the Section II championship. He was the leading scorer that year with 189 points. Following graduation from High School, Herb played with the City County League, representing Millersville.

Morris Rylee (Class of 1953) Morris participated in Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball during his years at Penn Manor High School. His basketball team won the Section II championship in 1952-1953. In 1951 his baseball and soccer teams won Lancaster County Championships. In 1952, Morris was the first recipient of the Ray Link Memorial soccer trophy, which is awarded to the best High School Soccer Player. After graduation, Morris continued to play soccer at Millersville State College. He also participated on their Track & Field Team.

Nelson Wallick (Class of 1928) Nelson participated in Basketball and Track & Field at Manor Township High School. Nelson won three-1st place awards at the 4th Annual Inter-Class Track Meet in 1928. He won many awards including a 1st place in the 100 yd. dash in 1928 and 1929. Nelson received an award from the American Legion for 50 years of outstanding participation in the Lancaster County Baseball Program. In 1985, Nelson was inducted into the Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame. Nelson was also a PIAA basketball official for 25 years and received an award for outstanding service and loyalty to the game of basketball from the International Association of Basketball Officials.
