Naturally they would like that their language be promoted and in a multilingual country like ours their language too be given constitutional recognition like the other languages which have got this recognition by finding a place in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. One such language seeking Constitutional recognition is "Kodava" language of Kodagu region of Karnataka. There has been a long-standing demand from the Kodavas to include their native language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. Kodava language has a great heritage and history which is widely spoken in the Kodagu region from where great soldiers of our nation like Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimmaiah hailed and who grew speaking Kodava language. The State Government of Karnataka has also passed resolutions in the past recommending inclusion of Kodava language in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. The inclusion of Kodava language in the Eighth Schedule will not only fulfill the aspiration of the people but will also give it its due place in the Constitution. Hence this Bill.
