It gives me great pleasure to greet everyone. Time flies with such tremendous pace that BOARD OF GOVERNORS half of 2019 has passed and gone by in such a short time. If we look back at Montfort Youth Training Centre (MYTC), it began its journey 20 years ago in 1999 in a small and humble setup in Donggongon, , with only 15 Trainees. The Chairman journey has been challenging but with perseverance, MYTC managed to grow to its Tan Sri present state where it is now hosting to more than 200 Trainees and Boarders at our (Datuk Seri Panglima) centres in , Kiulu and . Bernard Giluk Dompok The Province of -Singapore-Myanmar is now known as the District of South East Asia comprising Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines. This new Members District, which was formed on 25 March, comes under the jurisdiction of the new Province of Bengaluru in India and there are currently 22 fully professed Brothers in YBhg Datuk Margaret Fung the new District. We pray ardently for more vocations to the religious lives especially to the Brothers of St Gabriel so that the legacy of our Founder, St Louis Marie de YBhg Datuk Montfort, will continue to live on. Kuok Foundation has been supporting MYTC since 2001 and their study grant had benefited 662 trainees in this Institution. This year, MYTC is planning to take in 90 new Trainees and the Institution will embark on a new pilot programme in Mr. Willie Wong Chik Hing Oil Palm Plantation Field Conductorship in collaboration with the Malaysian Estate Owners’ Association, IJM Plantation and Eurostar. Mr. Joseph Tek Choon Yee As I reflect back on the past achievements of this Institution, I wish to thankthe Ms. Julia Willie Jock Brothers of St Gabriel for having entrusted me, as a lay person, to continue the mission that they have started. It is through their forward visionary outlook that MYTC existed today. It is also befitting to thank all donors, benefactors and friends of Montfort Board Secretary who have continuously supported this mission to educate our Youth-in-Need. Welcome to the first issue of our News Bulletin for year 2019. As always, we will present a lot of EVENING WITH MONTFORT ASSOCIATES - PRAYER SESSIONS AND FELLOWSHIP DINNER beautiful pictures of the many activities that went on in MYTC from January to June 2019. The highlight of course, was the graduation of Batch 19 trainees. Congratulations to all 54 trainees who had successfully completed their training. It was a proud moment for all and especially the parents and families who came to witness them on stage to receive their certificates.

We sincerely thank everyone for your unending support; donors, benefactors and friends of Montfort for making it possible for these youths to achieve their dreams of having a certificate and be gainfully employed. May God bless you always with good health and happiness.

The restructuring was necessary due to the dwindling numbers of vocation and the aging of existing Brothers. “Lawatan Verifikasi Pegawai Pengesah Luaran (PPL)” for Montfort Youth Training Centre was held from 23 to 25 April 2019. A total of 54 Trainees of Batch 19 from the Automotive, Welding, Carpentry, and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Departments were assessed in Sijil Kemahiran batch 19 leavers retreat Malaysia(SKM) Level 2 & 3-Theory and Practical Final Examination. SPIRITUAL This year PPL Panels came from various Institutions namely, Mr.Nor Zain Bin Zaini from Kolej Giat Mara Papar – Automotive After Sales Servicing, Mr.Mohd Safwan Bin Katenni from KTYS – Shielded Metal Arc Welding(Carbon Steel atch 19 leavers retreat was held on 10 to 12 May. Fifty four & Stainless Steel), Mr. Ajian Bin Kairun, from Kolej Giat Mara – (54) graduating trainees and staff took part in this retreat held in Furniture Production Operation and Mr.Felix Valentine from Kolej Vokasional Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre. It was conducted by the animators Likas – HVAC Installation And Maintenance Supervisor. from LJCCC Sacred Heart Cathedral. Trainees were given exclusive sessions of soul searching, forgiveness, and spiritual healing.

VISIT KOLEJ GIAT MARA The retreat was beneficial especially for the trainees who will be t was a great opportunity for 19 of the Junior Carpentry Trainees of Batch seeking for employment in a new social environment. We pray 20 and two of their Instructors to have the chance to visit Kolej Giat Mara that they will practise the values that they have acquired and hold Keningau on 18 February 2019. The main purpose of the visit was to gain steadfast to their faith in God. as much knowledge and skill program information offered by the college.

Mr. Jamidol, Coordinator of the School of Carpentry in his brief, shared that the college mission is to provide skill training to the less fortunate youth from the remote areas of the interior district.

The visit took almost a day and was wrapped up with a friendly futsal match between Montfort trainees and Giat Mara Carpentry students before they proceeded for a simple luncheon hosted by the college.

RAMD MODEL HOUSE

fter almost a year of planning and building the model house, it was finally completed on 16 April 2019. The interior is furnished with electrical wiring, ceiling fan as well as split and ceiling cassette air-conditioning units. The model house will be used to enhance practical learning and understanding among trainees and instructors. The trainees were given a hands-on in the installation of 1 phase electrical wiring and air-conditioning unit.

Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu management and staff visited SDBH on 12 January 2019. The purpose of the visit was to celebrate Christmas Day and New Year’s Day together with the boarders. They brought along Christmas Gifts for all the Boarders. The visit ended with a fellowship lunch for everyone. Director’s visit & talk on 18 January 2019

Jabatan Ginekologi & Obstetrik, Kota Kinabalu visited SDBH on 19 January 2019. 21 March 2019 was Mr. Jayfreddy Johnius They shared the benefits of eating healthy food and last day at work. ST. MARY’S YOUTH HOSTEL The boarders had the opportunity to undergo a fire drill practice which was conducted by the Fire BOARDERS and Rescue Department on 12 April 2019. Safety briefing on the proper techniques and operation of FAMILY DAY AND KAAMATAN FESTIVAL the fire extinguishers was explained followed by the actual operation. A Family Day cum Kaamatan celebration was held at The staff and boarders were also given the St. Mary’s Youth Hostel (SMYH) on 18 May 2019. This privilege to demonstrate their skills in putting out celebration was successfully organised by the joint effort a fire. The climax of the drill was a brief tour inside of SMYH and the Sandakan State Library. the fire engine truck which had created excitement among the boarders. A line up of interesting indoor activities and games were prepared for the boarders and their families. Participation from everyone were very encouraging as each family member took part in the games such as jigsaw puzzle, three-legged football, word search, ‘tin fishing’ and ‘Batu Seremban’. There were also karaoke session with a charge of a small fee for amateur singers to try out their LENTEN SEASON vocal talent. The collected amount from this session went into the students’ fund. OUTREACH PROGRAMME

n 3 May 2019, MYTC Staff Club led by its President, Mr Eejoe Jini, together with his committee members organized an outreach visit to Mr and Mrs William Runsab in Kg Raganan, Kiulu. Cash and in kind such as adult diapers, children clothing, food provision were donated to the family to ease their burden as Mr William stays at home to care for his wife, Hilda, who is partially paralysed and wheel-chaired bound. They have 3 school-going children.
