Abstract: The basis for achieving success in sport is technical preparation supported by adequate level of physical fitness. During judo competitions, athletes use technique to meet tactical objectives aimed to achieve victory. The modification of the rules of combat in judo that has been carried out in recent years has changed the course of competition. It seems to be interesting if there are relations between technical and tactical preparation expressed by means of indices and modification of the course of the fight caused by changes in the rules. The purpose of the paper was to determine Citation: Błach, W.; Rydzik, Ł.; Błach, the values of technical and tactical preparation of judokas during competition at the elite level. -
The Podium for Holland, the Plush Bench for Belgium
The Podium for Holland, The Plush Bench for Belgium The Low Countries and the Olympic Games 58 [ h a n s v a n d e w e g h e ] Dutch Inge de Bruin wins The Netherlands is certain to win its hundredth gold medal at the London 2012 gold. Whether the Belgians will be able to celebrate winning gold medal Athens, 2004. number 43 remains to be seen, but that is not Belgium’s core business: Bel- gium has the distinction of being the only country to have provided two presi- dents of the International Olympic Committee. The Netherlands initially did better in the IOC membership competition, too. Baron Fritz van Tuijll van Serooskerken was the first IOC representative from the Low Countries, though he was not a member right from the start; this Dutch nobleman joined the International Olympic Committee in 1898, two years after its formation, to become the first Dutch IOC member. Baron Van Tuijll is still a great name in Dutch sporting history; in 1912 he founded a Dutch branch of the Olympic Movement and became its first president. However, it was not long before Belgium caught up. There were no Belgians among the 13 men – even today, women members are still few and far between – who made up the first International Olympic Committee in 1894, but thanks to the efforts of Count Henri de Baillet-Latour, who joined the IOC in 1903, the Olympic Movement became the key international point of reference for sport in the Catholic south. The Belgian Olympic Committee was formed three years later – a year af- ter Belgium, thanks to the efforts of King Leopold II, had played host to the prestigious Olympic Congress. -

'he Museum of Modem Art %'^ Vest 53 Street, New York, N.Y. 10019 Circle 5-8900 Cable: Modernart Wo. 20 FOR IM^'TEDIATE RELEASE Friday, February 10, 1967 Thirteen feature films by the Japanese director Kon Ichikawa will be presented by the Department of Film of The Museum of Modem Art from February 12 through February 27• The films range from Ichikawa's satirical comedies of the early *50*s to the more recent tragedies attempting to show the "pain of our age»" All of the films are in Japanese with English subtitles. Describing his work, Ichikawa says, "I try to visualize everything...I'm the kind of person who has to see something — even in my own imagination «•- before I understand it. I started as a painter and I think like one. That is wl:^ the camera is so important to me« I plan all the set-ups and I always check the framing, and I usually try to work with (a cameraman) I know.•••I design the sets too, usually... and I'd probably do the music too if I could." Film critic Donald Richie describes the resulting "Ichikawa look": "The angular pattern is usually bold, the balance is almost always asymmetrical, the framing is precise, and yet the composition rarely calls attention to itself*" At 18 after graduation from an Osaka commercial school Ichikawa began studying animation and in 19h6 completed a puppet-film based on a famous Kabuki dance. (The Occupation authorities, concerned with discovering "feudal remnants," seized the neg ative and it has never been found.) After that, Ichikawa joined Toho Production Company and began making satirical comedies until 1955 when he switched to more serious subject matter with The Burmese Harp* He says, "I had become aware that men are unhappy. -

MCAA Centenary Booklet 1880 to 1980.Pdf
0 INTRODUCTION I have attempted to write this article about the Association during its first 100 years in a manner which I hope will be found interesting. I have not used bibliographic indications, but have included a bibliography as an aid for anyone who might wish to write a more detailed history of the Association. Principal events in the Association's history, some of them serious, some of them less serious are mentioned. The main primary source material used has been the Minutes of the Association's meetings. Unfortunately the Minutes of the first 20 years and for the period from 1939 until 1954 are missing and therefore I was unable to comment in detail about these periods. From reading this article you will see that it was the policy of the Association to improve the management of athletic meetings and suppress the abuses which were very prevalent in its early years and to keep the sport within the amateur ranks. From this base the Association is now firmly established, I have no doubt there will be omissions and the occasional mistake of fact and for these I apologise. ROY MITCHELL HON. SECRETARY Date: March 1980 1 FOREWORD This History written to record the first 100 years of the Midland Counties Amateur Athletic Association has not been uneventful, in a sport which covers over 20 disciplines and caters for all. The fat, the thin, the short, the tall, any class, creed, politics or colour, a truly all embracing pastime for all. This admirable history compiled over many hours of work by Roy Mitchell shows not only the evolution of the sport in the Midlands, but the very beginnings of the Modern Olympic ideals from the observing of the Much Wenlock Olympics which had been running for over 150 years before the advent of modern athletics which we know today.
