Urban Opera: Navigating Modernity through the Oeuvre of Strauss and Hofmannsthal by Solveig M. Heinz A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Germanic Languages and Literatures) in the University of Michigan 2013 Doctoral Committee: Associate Professor Vanessa H. Agnew, Chair Associate Professor Naomi A. André Associate Professor Andreas Gailus Professor Julia C. Hell i For John ii Acknowledgements Writing this dissertation was an intensive journey. Many people have helped along the way. Vanessa Agnew was the most wonderful Doktormutter a graduate student could have. Her kindness, wit, and support were matched only by her knowledge, resourcefulness, and incisive critique. She took my work seriously, carefully reading and weighing everything I wrote. It was because of this that I knew my work and ideas were in good hands. Thank you Vannessa, for taking me on as a doctoral rookie, for our countless conversations, your smile during Skype sessions, coffee in Berlin, dinners in Ann Arbor, and the encouragement to make choices that felt right. Many thanks to my committee members, Naomi André, Andreas Gailus, and Julia Hell, who supported the decision to work with the challenging field of opera and gave me the necessary tools to succeed. Their open doors, email accounts, good mood, and guiding feedback made this process a joy. Mostly, I thank them for their faith that I would continue to work and explore as I wrote remotely. Not on my committee, but just as important was Hartmut. So many students have written countless praises of this man. I can only concur, he is simply the best.

  • Manic Street Preachers Tornano Con Un Nuovo Disco, Intitolato Futurology, in Uscita L'8 Manic Street Preachers Luglio 2014
LA REDAZIONE Il primo singolo estratto è "Walk Me To The Bridge", dalle chiare influenze europee.

MKULTR4: Very Vague And Not Well-Funded Written and Edited by Emma Laslett, Ewan MacAulay, Joey Goldman, Ben Salter, and Oli Clarke Finals 1 Tossups 1. Secret identities adopted by characters in this series include Rhonda Mumps and Jake Jortles, and one character in this series spends most of an episode responding to all requests by giving people cacti. One character in this series suffers from “directional insanity”, and another responds to a plan to use him as a “willing sex robot” with the phrase “Maximum (*) Derek!” A 3,000 page manuscript is discarded as incomprehensible by a being who knows “literally everything” in this series; that work is What We Owe To Each Other, by Chidi Anagonye. For 10 points, name this 2016 comedy series created by Michael Schur and starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell, in which Eleanor Shellstrop arrives in the eponymous ideal afterlife by mistake. ANSWER: The Good Place <EL> 2. In one scene, this character is described in a simile as “like a wolf, lying in wait by a full sheepfold” who is “tormented by its dry bloodless Jaws”. This character is opposed in one council by a man often considered a reflection of Cicero, Drances. It’s not the title character of the work in which they appear, but in Book Six the Sibyl heralds this character as a new (*) Achilles. During this character's final fight, after a borrowed sword shatters, their divine sister brings them another. This man asks their rival to “pity Daunus’ old age” when wounded in the thigh, but is killed when that rival sees this man wearing the sword-belt of Pallas.

  • EXTENDING the TERM: Should the UK Recording Industry Have New Obligations As Well As New Rights If the Copyright Term for Sound Recordings Is Extended?
1 EXTENDING THE TERM: Should the UK recording industry have new obligations as well as new rights if the copyright term for sound recordings is extended? Ben Challis, LLB MA MA(law) FRSA Barrister-at-law In this article Ben looks at the current moves by the UK’s recording industry to push for a Europe wide extension in the term of copyright for sound recordings - from fifty years to ninety five years. But Ben asks if this is the time for a complete overhaul in the way copyrights are owned and suggests that any change in term should only be made with additional provisions to protect both the customers and the creators of recorded music. Front page news in the UK trade magazine Music Week on the 4 th March 2006 was the headline ‘Timefor Action’ launching a major campaign under the „Extend The Term!‟ banner, calling on the UK Government to take action over extending the term of copyright for sound recordings. Currently the term of copyright protection for original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic works along with Films is seventy (70) years from the death of the author or last surviving author pursuant to the provisions of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988s12 and s13B. However S13A of the same Act provides that the copyright in sound recordings in the UK lasts for only fifty (50) years from the end of the calendar year in which the recording is made or released. And this is what is agitating the British Phonographic Industry as its members being to see some very valuable copyrights (such as early sound recordings from Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard) enter the public domain.
