These closed communities are pious, principled and notoriously distrustful of the outside world. MURDER IN AMISH COUNTRY uncovers some of the most heinous crimes committed by seemingly moral subjects and reveals that what happens in the dark eventually comes to light. The Amish Serial Killer premieres Friday, October 4 at 9/8c When a young Amish wife is found murdered in her bed, police uncover a dark world they never imagined existed. How far will a man from a devoutly religious community go to get what he wants? Twisted Confession premieres Friday, October 11 at 9/8c Anna Borntregger has been dead for ten years, so when her husband suddenly tells police he murdered her, they don’t know what to make of his confession. How far is this conflicted Amish widower willing to go to get the power and the woman he craves? FINALES VALLEY OF THE DAMNED Season Finale Airs Tuesday, October 8 at 10/9c VALLEY OF THE DAMNED examines seven murders that rocked the beautiful, desolate mountain region of Fremont County, deep in the Colorado Rockies. This vast, inhospitable region of Southern Colorado is known as Prison Valley because it is home to 15 prisons, including America’s only Federal Supermax. This valley has more correctional facilities than any other in the US, so in a town where you’re surrounding by prisons, how does someone get away with murder? The Jehovah Jinx premieres Tuesday, October 1 at 10/9c Jehovah’s Witness Pam Candelario is murdered, and her husband Ralph is severely beaten during what appears to be a home invasion. But when police dig deeper into the case, they soon discover this is one of the most bizarre crimes they have ever encountered. Impossible Perpetrator premieres Tuesday, October 8 at 10/9c When teen Candace Hiltz is shot in Prison Valley, the police pursue her troubled brother James as a potential suspect. But with no evidence against him, the case goes cold. Ten years later, things heat up when an officer’s storage unit is discovered to contain evidence in Candace’s murder. THE LIES THAT BIND Season Finale Airs Thursday, October 10 at 10/9c Everyone is hiding something. It may be a harmless secret, or it might be something far more serious, like a terrible betrayal of trust or shocking indiscretion. In some cases, these lies can stay hidden, in other cases they are revealed with time. But then there are times when an event is so cataclysmic that everyone’s truths are laid bare. In THE LIES THAT BIND, episodes tell the story of murder investigations that gradually exposed one truth after another, revealing the sinister conflicts that simmer beneath seemingly placid and bucolic communities. Ex’s and Alibis premieres Thursday, October 3 at 10/9c Louisiana Melton and her boyfriend, Phillip Brown, are found shot dead in December 2001. When Houston police detective Brian Harris starts to dig into their backgrounds, he finds that both Lou and Phillip have people in their past with possible motives. Wheeling and Dealing premieres Thursday, October 10 at 10/9c In February of 1996, Frank Black Jr., the owner of a successful school bus company, goes missing after a flight to Florida for a business meeting with a mystery woman. The FBI soon discovers this is a case that can only be solved when someone is brave enough to tell the truth. ONGOING SERIES SOMEONE YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW New Episodes Premiere Mondays at 9/8c In homicide cases, it's seldom strangers you need to worry about - it’s those closest to you. Even when the killing appears to be random, there can be something more sinister lying beneath the surface. What if the killer could be SOMEONE YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW? Maine Murder Mystery premieres Monday, September 30 at 9/8c Mike and Valerie Miller are a beloved couple in the tiny town of Webster Plantation, Maine. When they are found shot in their home, authorities must probe a list of suspects that includes the Miller’s own flesh and blood. Evil in Idaho premieres Monday, October 7 at 9/8c Lisa Stukey lives in the small, picturesque community of Idaho Falls, Idaho. After she’s not heard from for weeks, her decomposing body is found inside her home. When the police finally catch the culprit, the killer has shocking ties to the victim. TWISTED SISTERS New Episodes Premiere Mondays at 10/9 Executive produced by Khloé Kardashian, TWISTED SISTERS takes viewers inside the most shocking crimes ever committed by the unlikeliest of pairs. When Diane’s husband, Mike, hears of her plan, he cuts her off financially and her daughter seeks custody of Ford. Diane turns to her manipulative sister Vickie for help, who comes up with a deadly solution. HOMICIDE HUNTER: LT. JOE KENDA New Episodes Premiere Wednesdays at 9/8c HOMICIDE HUNTER: LT JOE KENDA is a riveting non-fiction investigative series of murder cases told through the personal experience of retired detective, Lt. Joe Kenda. With his personal interviews and compelling storytelling style, Kenda captivates us with the details of a different investigation each week, beginning from when he got the homicide call to when the case was closed. Unlike many true-crime shows, this series delivers the realities of the emotional and psychological effects of a murder on the investigator. Set in Colorado, a state known for its suburban lifestyle, these murders are all the more compelling because they are stories of homicide that can happen to anybody. Down for the Count premieres Wednesday, October 9 at 9/8c Hikers stumble across the corpse of amateur boxer Johnnie Wilson, hidden beneath a pile of branches. Lt. Joe Kenda taps into a network of leads, but is plagued by false starts, the case finally gains traction when investigators get their hands dirty. When her new younger man threatened to leave, Kathy decided that was not an option. Amy Hill abandoned her family when she fell in love with a dashing attorney. However, he was never serious about marrying her, and Amy made it clear that if she couldn’t have him, no one could. Melanie Eam thought she found her soulmate at the young age of 20. From mysterious vanishings to twisted family murders, these are the unforgettable cases that disrupt law & order and keep authorities up at night. White Hot Rage premieres Saturday, October 5 at 8/7c When Mark Mariani is found dead in the parking lot of a Calgary strip-mall, Detective Dave Sweet can't figure out who would want to hurt the kind man. The deeper he digs, the more he learns about a dark side of the quiet Calgary neighborhood; but what does it have do with Mariani's murder? FEAR THY NEIGHBOR New Episodes Premiere Saturdays at 10/9c Do you really know who lives next door? (202) 429-8970 April 19, 2017 Their Attorneys -ii- SUMMARY In this Petition, WSBS Licensing, Inc. and its parent company Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc. (“SBS”) seek modification of the television market of WSBS-TV, Key West, Florida (the “Station”), to reinstate 41 communities (the “Communities”) located in the Miami- Ft. Lauderdale Designated Market Area (the “Miami-Ft. Lauderdale DMA” or the “DMA”) that were previously deleted from the Station’s television market by virtue of a series of market modification decisions released in 1996 and 1997. SBS seeks recognition that the Communities located in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties form an integral part of WSBS-TV’s natural market. The elimination of the Communities prior to SBS’s ownership of the Station cannot diminish WSBS-TV’s longstanding service to the Communities, to which WSBS-TV provides significant locally-produced news and public affairs programming targeted to residents of the Communities, and where the Station has developed many substantial advertising relationships with local businesses throughout the Communities within the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale DMA. Cable operators have obviously long recognized that a clear nexus exists between the Communities and WSBS-TV’s programming because they have been voluntarily carrying WSBS-TV continuously for at least a decade and continue to carry the Station today.

UC Berkeley GAIA Research Series Title The Myth of "Ethnic Conflict": Politics, Economics, and "Cultural" Violence Permalink https://escholarship.org/uc/item/7hc733q3 Journal Research Series, uciaspubs/research/98 Authors Crawford, Beverly Lipschutz, Ronnie D. Publication Date 1998 Peer reviewed eScholarship.org Powered by the California Digital Library University of California The Myth of “Ethnic Conflict”: Politics, Economics, and “Cultural” Violence Edited by Beverly Crawford and Ronnie D. Lipschutz Description: In the last decade, discourses of economic and political liberalization and globalization have swept the world. Yet during this same period and all across the globe, many states are fragmenting and more than 30 ethnic and sectarian conflicts have displaced or killed millions of people — and far more civilians than soldiers. The authors in this volume argue that much of this violence is closely linked to those globalizing forces and demands for economic liberalization which have weakened states' capacities, both political and financial, for redistributing resources. As a result, many states have been forced to break established social contracts, often dramatically changing power relations in heterogeneous societies that previously had been relatively stable. Drawing on case studies from Asia, Eastern Europe, North Africa, the former Soviet Union, and the United States, the authors demonstrate how these distributional issues and power shifts have been experienced as ethnic and religious discrimination and are often at the root of identity politics and violent, so-called “cultural,” conflicts.
