For more information, please contact [email protected]. RACE, MARKETS, AND HOLLYWOOD'S PERPETUAL ANTITRUST DILEMMA Hosea H. Harvey* This Article focuses on the oft-neglected intersection of racially skewed outcomes and anti-competitive markets. Through historical, contextual, and empirical analysis, the Article describes the state of Hollywood motion-picture distributionfrom its anti- competitive beginnings through the industry's role in creating an anti-competitive, racially divided market at the end of the last century. The Article's evidence suggests that race-based inefficiencies have plagued the film distribution process and such inefficiencies might likely be caused by the anti-competitive structure of the market itself, and not merely by overt or intentional racial-discrimination.After explaining why traditional anti-discrimination laws are ineffective remedies for such inefficiencies, the Article asks whether antitrust remedies and market mechanisms mght provide more robust solutions. -

Through the Lens of Critical Race Theory
AN ANALYSIS OF DUVERNAY’S “WHEN THEY SEE US” THROUGH THE LENS OF CRITICAL RACE THEORY by Uwode Ejiro Favour A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment for the Requirements for the Degree MASTER OF ARTS Major Subject: Communication West Texas A&M University Canyon, TX May 2020 APPROVED: ___________________________ Date: _____________________ Chairperson, Thesis Committee ___________________________ Date: _______________________ Member, Thesis Committee ___________________________ Date: _______________________ Member, Thesis Committee _________________________________ Date: ___________________ Head, Major Department _________________________________ Date: ___________________ Dean, Graduate School ABSTRACT The film series, When They See Us, has been the most popular four part mini- series on Netflix since its release in 2019. It was produced and directed by Ava DuVernay and it touches upon true events that happened in 1989 at Central Park. The series presents the story of five black and brown boys and their brutal experiences in the hands of the American justice system. Kevin Richardson, Korey Wise, Raymond Santana, Yusef Salam, and Antron McCray were all fourteen to sixteen years old when they were accused of raping and brutalizing Trisha Meili at Central Park. DuVernay crafts scenes that are raw and horrifying but points to the lived experiences of people of color in America. The purpose of this thesis was to explore Ava DuVernay’s movie, When They See Us and its portrayal of the bias nature of the criminal justice system in America against people of color. This study sought to explore the connection of microaggressions and racism to police brutality against people of color in the United States. By using both critical race theory and standpoint theory, the study analyzes the experiences of the men of color in the movie as it relates to racism and judicial inequality, and how this directly reflects the experiences of people of color within the American society. -

My Drift Title: Mark Harmon Written By: Jerry D
My Drift Title: Mark Harmon Written by: Jerry D. Petersen Date: 15 October 2019 Article Number: 319-2019-17 Besides Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune and most all Sports, the two regular TV shows I like to watch are NCIS and Criminal Minds. I decided to write this article about someone from these shows and I picked Mark Harmon because I find his life to be the most interesting. Family Thomas Mark Harmon was born in Burbank, California on September 2, 1951, which makes him 68 years old. He was the youngest of three children. His parents were Heisman Trophy–winning football player and broadcaster Tom Harmon and actress, model, artist, and fashion designer Elyse Knox. Harmon’s two older sisters are the late actress and painter Kristin Nelson, who was divorced from the late singer Rick Nelson, and actress and model Kelly Harmon, formerly married to car magnate John DeLorean. Yes, Mark’s dad was a famous football player at the Mark Harmon’s Parents University of Michigan. He played the halfback position Tom Harmon and wife from 1938 to 1940. He led the nation in scoring and was Elyse Knox a consensus All-American in both 1939 and 1940 and won the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and the Associated Press Athlete of the Year award in 1940. His nickname was "Old 98" which I find somewhat unusual for a halfback! He played in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams for a couple of seasons. He was also a military pilot and a sports broadcaster. He died at age 70 in Los Angeles. -

CHARLIE MURPHY / DOCUMENTARY CHARLIE MURPHY LOGLINE DOCUMENTARY 2 CHARLIE MURPHY / DOCUMENTARY CHARLIE MURPHY / DOCUMENTARY THE DOC Charlie Murphy: True Story (working title) is a feature length documentary film which tells the story of Charlie Murphy’s journey - from growing up in some of the roughest neighborhoods in Brooklyn, surpassing racial inequalities, to reaching Hollywood stardom. CHARLIE MURPHY / DOCUMENTARY LOGLINE A tribute documentary combining untold personal stories from Charlie’s family, friends and celebrity colleagues with the experience of raw uncut hilarious moments from behind the scenes never before seen footage which channel Charlie’s pain into laughter and gave birth to a new generation of Charlie’s comedic genius. CHARLIE MURPHY / DOCUMENTARY CHARLIE MURPHY / DOCUMENTARY OVERVIEW Charles Quinton Murphy grew up in Brooklyn, NY and at the age of 10 years old he endured the murder of his 27-year-old father. In the years that followed he ran with a street gang, did time in jail, served in the Navy where he faced his share of racism, sold screenplays to Hollywood, and traveled the globe as head of security for one of the most famous comedian and box office stars ever – his younger brother, Eddie Murphy. Charlie’s life changed after receiving a crucial piece of advice from a seasoned stand-up comedian in his most desperate hour; and, of course, his breakout sketches on Chappelle’s Show, which allowed Charlie the opportunity to discover that, away from the long shadow of his talented brother, Charlie, too, had the ability to make people laugh.
