They assume you will have a fully equipped backpack with you at the time you'll need it. But we know that Murphy's Law says - "not bloody likely". Taromovies was the first video that I came across that dealt with what a real survival scenario would be like - having only a few items in your pockets when something happens. So you'd better have the most useful items in your pockets and you'd better know how to use them most effectively. This is a smart technique everyone should know. ...And can keep you alive in the dead of winter. Mylar Space Blanket - Large (2) Tape (Duct Tape) First Aid Kit Key Candles (4) Matches / Lighter Small Knife / Cutting Tool It's quite simple. You want to make a poncho out of the space blankets. Use the tape and outline a head sized hole in the center of one of the space blankets. Cut the head sized hole on the tape. The tape will prevent tearing as Mylar space blankets tear very easily. Don't cut out completely, leave cut material as a flap for the back of your neck. Put the space blanket over your head. Wrap the other space blanket around you and form a hood over your head. Add tape to wherever you need to in order to keep things in place. You have just made yourself a space blanket poncho. Sit on a log or edge of something and get comfortable - you may be there for a while. Light the tea candle, spread your feet apart (under your poncho) and place the tea candle between your feet. Make It Out Alive Page 9 of 19 Make sure you have enough space around the tea candle not to ignite your pant legs. The tea candle will heat the air under the poncho you're wearing and create a micro- climate. Like any other poncho, you have a hood BUT your face is NOT covered by the poncho. You need to breathe fresh air. That is Taromovies' technique. And it kept a temperature of 70 degrees F or more, even in very cold winter temperatures. Bowie was my pick of the three for all-round B Y S te V E N D I C K usefulness. While practically every Central and South American country has its own machete industry, there are a small number of brands that seem to be universally popular south of the Rio Grande. Tramontina from Brazil, Colima from Guatemala, and Imacasa from El Salvador are three of the big names. WI particularly remember one trip to Costa Rica when I asked some of the locals about the Larsson machetes made in that country. I was quickly told that they considered the Imacasa products far superior to their own local brand. Finding Imacasa knives and machetes has been kind of a hit and miss proposition in the U.S. I have the impression that the big hardware distrib- utors tend to go with the low bidder each time they place a large machete order. As a result, you never know what brand you will find in the local retailer from month to month. In the case of Imacasa, that may be changing. A new company, Condor Tool and Knife, is now importing a wide variety of blades and tools from El Salvador.

Depending on the region of the world you are living in or traveling and what is your specific attraction in the outdoors, you will certainly need a very different set of tools to live or sojourn in the wilderness. Let's start by a review of the available tools, and we will check their adequacy to some tasks. Tools Pocket knife The pocket knife is the basic tool that I always carry with me. It can be multiblades, like the Swiss knives, or simple big folder, with or without a blade lock. It rarely leaves me, and is often largely sufficient for any task I encounter during hiking. I generally carry a Swiss knife or an Opinel, or a Spyderco Military.Pocket knives with tools can be really useful [Pocket Knives]. Fixed blade Copyright © Outdoors-Magazine.com Page 2/10 Wilderness Edged Wood Cutting Tools. A fixed blade does have a few advantages over folding knives. It is more sturdy, it is more readily available. Can be safely pushed, pulled or used to chop. Fixed blades can be any size, but for convenience, we will call blades bigger than 10" or 25 cm machetes.

Conditions Favorable to Freedom of Thought and Action “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” With Nature 2 Corinthians 3:17. Study the first 11 chapters of Genesis, especially the first 4. They contain very simple, straight-forward, true answers to a multitude of life’s questions. In the beginning, God provided the conditions most favorable for the and development of character. Those who departed from God built for themselves cities, and, congregating in them, gloried in the splendor, the luxury, and the vice that make the cities of today the world's pride and its curse. Genesis 4:14, 17; 10:6-20; 11:1-9. But the men who held fast God's principles of life dwelt among the fields and hills. They were tillers of the soil and keepers of flocks and With God herds; and in this free, independent life, with its opportunities for labor and study and meditation, they learned of God and taught their children of His works and ways. It was God's plan for man to till the earth. The first man, the ruler of the whole world, was given a garden to cultivate. Many of the world's greatest men, its real nobility, have been tillers of the soil. A thorough work is to be done in training men to cultivate the soil and to grow fruits and vegetables. Let no one despise this work. Agriculture is the ABC of industrial education. It stimulates inventiveness and artistic bent, and Practical Outdoor Knowledge gives incentive to all kinds of useful creativity.
