Title IX Coordinator and Director, Human Resources and Equal Opportunity The Curtis Institute of Music, a private school dedicated to the training and education of exceptionally gifted young musicians, invites nominations and applications for the position of Title IX Coordinator and Director, Human Resources and Equal Opportunity. The Curtis Institute seeks a strategic thinker and a relationship-driven community member who fosters productive collaborations, is trustworthy and approachable, and strives to serve as a valued and reliable resource to students, faculty, staff, and the administration. Serving as a newly added member of the President’s cabinet, the Director will oversee Curtis’s Title IX function and work in partnership with the Senior Associate Dean and Special Advisor to the President for Strategic Engagement, and members of the Ombuds Office to develop institutional equity initiatives across the campus. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Administration, with a dotted line to the President & CEO, the Director will lead the division of Title IX, human resources, and equal opportunity services, and participate in a newly formed task force designed to support the well-being of students, staff, alumni, and faculty. The position will also have an open and confidential line to the Board of Trustees. Once I discovered the instrument’s wealth of possibilities during my first lessons and my years at the conservatory, I quickly set myself a goal: I wanted to promote the harp as a solo instrument, wherever and however I could. I wanted to do this not only through the performance of well-known pieces, but also by encouraging contemporary composers to produce new harp compositions. For my first Channel Classics CD, I have chosen a combination of three 20th-century French masters. The Parisian firm of Érard, in particular, created technical innovations to the harp which considerably broadened the instrument’s (chromatic) capabilities; these innovations, followed by the first ‘minor’ masterpieces by Debussy and Ravel, soon made Paris the epicentre of a veritable harp explosion. More and more well-trained harpists appeared, and so did composers who became interested in the harp. Even though André Caplet did not compose much for the harp, the ‘Deux Divertissements’ are now an indispensable part of the repertoire. They are one of the harpist’s ‘musts’. And I cannot imagine why Jacques Ibert’s ‘Six Pièces’, those surprisingly colourful miniatures – are so rarely performed in their entirety. French-American Carlos Salzedo occupies a special place in the world of the harp. Famous both as a performer and teacher, he was immensely influential. -

Els ő lépésként ugyanebben az évben megalapította a Kollégiumi Kántust. Maróthi a következ ő évben (1740) többszólamú zsoltárkiadást is megjelentetett a zürichi minta alapján. Kés őbb átszervezte az el őző évben alapított f őiskolai énekkart, nagy fontosságot tulajdonítva a m űvészi ének tanításának. -

THE KOSCIUSZKO FOUNDATION CHOPIN PIANO COMPETITION HISTORICAL OVERVIEW In 1949, to mark the centennial of the death of Fryderyk Chopin, the Kosciuszko Foundation’s Board of Trustees authorized a National Committee to encourage observance of the anniversary through concerts and programs throughout the United States. Howard Hansen, then Director of the Eastman School of Music, headed this Committee, which included, among others, Claudio Arrau, Vladimir Horowitz, Serge Koussevitzky, Claire Booth Luce, Eugene Ormandy, Artur Rodzinski, George Szell, and Bruno Walter. The Chopin Centennial was inaugurated by Witold Malcuzynski at Carnegie Hall on February 14, 1949. A repeat performance was presented by Malcuzynski eight days later, on Chopin’s birthday, in the Kosciuszko Foundation Gallery. Abram Chasins, composer, pianist, and music director of the New York Times radio stations WQXR and WQWQ, presided at the evening and opened it with the following remarks: In seeking to do justice to the memory of a musical genius, nothing is so eloquent as a presentation of the works through which he enriched our musical heritage. … In his greatest work, Chopin stands alone … Throughout the chaos, the dissonance of the world, Chopin’s music has been for many of us a sanctuary … It is entirely fitting that this event should take place at the Kosciuszko Foundation House. This Foundation is the only institution which we have in America which promotes cultural relations between Poland and America on a non-political basis. It has helped to understand the debt which mankind owes to Poland’s men of genius. At the Chopin evening at the Foundation, two contributions were made. -
