The Beauty O F Glass Lasvit Pro Jects 2020 / V Olume II Pro Jects The Beauty of Glass Projects Lasvit Projects 2020 / Volume II ˚ Beauty has not been here for a mere ten years. It's been here since time immemorial, long before we began to worship it. It emerges, nurtures, fades. The motion power of the universe, of the planet, of the people. Of you and of me, of all life in all its forms. Sparks in the eyes, inner flame, flames of passion, jealousy, eruptions on the Sun, invisible signals, floods of emotions. Not belonging to anyone, including us - the handful of devotees spreading the message in its name. Just what is the Czech Republic and the few worldwide branches? These few hundred years of glassmaking tradition, those masters of the craft, this Leon Jakimič? What is design, or art? Who has the right to take themselves so seriously, to place their ego above nature, and impose their judgement on beauty? On the way it’s supposed to look, and on the way it’s supposed to be viewed. No, no one, not even you. Mere mastering the change of state - it’s only sand, and then glass. Arts, procedures, nonsense about energy, wasting it or saving it. Market manipulations and light-speed races in disciplines that do not nor ever did exist. Intro Prologue Let it be, it’s already set. Try to be free. Let live coincidences, moods, feelings, and emotions. Smiles and astonishment. Eyes narrowed or wide open. All the rays, flashes - data, if you will. Stories. Hearts aflame, even if uncomfortable. Yes, even laughter, tears, and magic. It’s not about us, we’re only trying for the light beaming somewhere to make an imprint. In the right moment - for ever, perhaps - in glass and in such a manner to make you gasp for air and blind with astonishment: “What beauty!” For this, we love glass, for it we do this. Try to understand, and who knows - maybe you’ll join in. Who we are Who we INNOVATION Beyond Glassmaking With craftmanship and know-how as our tiller, we have the power to set course for innovation and explore possibilities beyond hand- blown glass. Colours aren’t a limit for us, nor are the patterns. Bubbles, prints, engraving or metal coating …. we are obsessed with glass and new ideas are just challenges to overcome. Dynamic Lighting We have developed innovations that do almost magical effects with light. Our innovative designs can let the light dance to the sound of music or play in a myriad shades and colors. Interactive Installations Glass may have a power to shape light, but we provide our clients the power to shape lighting. We say that design is a game and our lightings are means to enjoy it. Side to side or upside down. We present designs which can be controlled through an app on mobile devices. 8 9 DESIGN Storytelling Design We make cutting-edge designs sharp enough to draw blood. Our pieces are specific by their customized design. LASVIT glass installations are tailor-made for the place and client, entangled with the genius loci of each specific site. They provide not only light, but also emotions, atmosphere and stories. Variety of designs for a variety of tastes We work with our pool of talented up-and- coming in-house designers who are ready to make your dreams a reality. On our way to inspire the world, we have created ornate, voluminous, and opulent designs as well as minimalistic and humble pieces. In this FROM A TO Z catalogue we present just an amuse bouche of them. From the design outline to the final touch on the installed glass art piece, it is in our hands. Clients can dream about the design and we take care and worry about the rest. From the experts in design and engineer teams to the dedicated professionals for on-site fitting, we have it covered. Hundreds of people work together towards one goal – to illuminte the client’s place with the beauty of glass and thus make the world a bit more beautiful. Born in Northern Bohemia We illuminate the world, yet the source of our inspiation comes straight from the homeland. LASVIT headquarters are in Nový Bor, in the heart of Northern Bohemia. A glass house is also part of the complex - the mataphorical “lighthouse of glassmaking,” illuminating the whole region and beyond. Who we are Who we And this is just the beginning. We keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible to do with a glass piece of art. 10 11 Institutional DUBAI OPERA The dynamically-lit glass sculpture titled Symphony spans three fl oors of the Dubai Opera’s main foyer. Much like the entire building, designed by Janus Rostock of Atkins and resembling a traditional dhow boat, the sculpture was inspired by Dubai’s rich maritime past. It is composed of thousands of individually-crafted glass pearls and its shape resembles that of fi shing nets rising through the depths of the sea in a vortex of swirling bubbles. • Luxury Condo Markets Sprout in Downtowns
Brian Bandell | Senior Reporter | South Florida Business Journal Luxury condo markets sprout in downtowns South Florida beaches were once the prime domain for luxury condo units listing for $1 million or more. But bustling downtowns and neighboring communities have become strong players in the market. The influx of high-priced units has attracted more wealthy residents near the urban cores of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. And those spending $1 million or more for a condo are likelier to live there – even if part time – as opposed to renting them out for investment purposes. That means a greater stream of deep-pocketed spenders frequenting local businesses. But despite the boon to the local economy, some experts warn of an imminent slowdown in luxury condo sales – especially in Miami – due to an oversaturated market. The current inventory of units on the market could take years to sell off, even as new luxury buildings near completion. With so many units on the market in Miami, those who bought at the beginning of the cycle would likely end up selling their condos at a loss, said Peter Zalewski, a principal with Miami-based Condo Vultures. Many developers are reluctant to start new projects now because they can’t price units at the premium levels reached a few years ago, he added. Despite that, the majority of the units in many of the latest luxury buildings delivered in downtown areas have sold. New standard for downtown Miami The One Thousand Museum condominium, designed by late architect Zaha Hadid, set a new standard for luxury condo sales in downtown Miami, especially on Biscayne Boulevard.
