MINUTES OF THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE HELD: Thursday 11 October 2018 TIME: 6.00 pm

Apologies for absence were received from Community Councillors Ron Clarke, Irene Teasdale and Lorraine Birkett

121/18. Declaration of Interests

122/18. Grant Applications

Newcastle Community Asset Trust

Leanne Risk took the Community Council through the application for funding to hold Halloween party. The party would be in partnership with the under 10’s football team from Blakelaw Club Juniors.

The Community Council were happy to grant the application in full to the sum of £220.

Blakelaw Flats TARA – Christmas Party/Lunch

A resident took the Community Council through the application for grant funding that would provide a Christmas lunch for the residents of the Blakelaw Flats. All 3 clocks are invited however they usually only have 20-25 residents attend. The school choir also come and sing carols.

The Community Council were happy to grant the application in full to the sum of £350.

Blakelaw Flats TARA – to Harrogate

A resident took the Community Council through the application for their coach trip to Harrogate. They confirmed that the Christmas lights were going to be switched on on the same day. The grant was for the funding of the coach hire which was a 36 seater coach with disabled accesses. Those resident who had carers were able to take them along and a coach this size allowed for varying disabilities.

It was confirmed that it was a different mix of people from those who attended the Christmas lunch.

The Community Council were happy to grant the application in full to the sum of £400.

Update from Blakelaw Club Juniors

Gavin Campbell and John Reilly talked the Community Council through everything that the Football Club had achieved in the last year. The Club continues to go from strength to strength attracting young people from around the area.

123/18. Minutes of Previous Meeting

The minutes of the meeting held on the 13 September 2018 were agreed as a true record and signed by the Chair.

124/18. Matters Arising

There were no matters arising.

125/18. Chairs Report

JW shared his most recent Chair’s Report with the Community Council (copy attached). Issues covered were anti-social behaviour, increased social media usage and contact from residents within the area.

126/18. Police Update

The Police were not in attendance but they provided an email update which the Chair read to the meeting.

127/18. Update from Blakelaw Ward Councillors

City Councillor Nora Casey the meeting in relation to issues within the Ward. The Gates to the bunker were discussed and the possibility of the Community Council funding these.

The City Council had confirmed that the CCTV camera on Rawlston Way did in fact work despite residents and the Police believing that it didn’t.

Cllr Casey confirmed that the use of railing around Hilton School was still an issue due to funding.

Cllr Casey also handed out a City Learning booklet.

128/18. Sub Committee

Standards Committee – No update.

Communications Group – JW is the chair of this group and updated the Community Council in relation to social media, notice boards, the newsletter was nearly ready and would be due to go out in November, VR continued to update the website and it had had 2300 hits .

Environmental Group – VR updated the Community Council following the October meeting.

Blakelaw Club Football Club Juniors – Update provided earlier in the meeting.

129/18. To Receive Correspondence and Communications

The Clerk confirmed that she had sent out a number of different items of correspondence that should be passed on to those that may be interested in attending.

130/18. To Consider Planning Applications

Planning continued to send through information on planning applications.

131/18. Financial Matters

132/18. Any Other Business

VR shared with the Community Council that she had attended the AGM of NEAS.

JW informed the Community Council that he had prepared a template for business cards. If any Community Councillor wished to have any they just needed to let JW know.

The date and time of the next meeting is 8 November 2018 at 6pm in the Community Room, Moorland House, Moulton Place.
