BN’s hand in ‘cheap sale’ of land

Story and pix by Chan Lilian

THE Kuantan Road market was built in the 1930s and this is the first time the market gets a total upgrading in the past 80 years. There are 143 stalls inside and outside the mar- ket building. MPPP will spend about RM450,000 to upgrade the market. Works began on 28 August, 2012 and will complete on 26 May, 2013. This is the 6th market on the island to get up- graded. The other markets are at Batu Maung, Air Itam, Cecil Street, Pulau Tikus and Jelutong. More markets will be upgraded by MPPP soon. Chong Boon Hooi, 47, who was helping his sister at their family stall selling dried seafood and sundry products told Buletin Mutiara that the stall has been handed down through generations. “We have been trading here for 40-50 years.
