Vale Magazine 20 Your work is challenging at the best of times. How tough is it during the Covid- 19 pandemic, particularly in the first weeks? When the coronavirus first started it was a little overwhelming and very bizarre. We all had to start working in a very different way to what we were used to. We didn't really know much about the virus and the situation was continually changing. One of the main differences was the PPE (personal protective equipment) that we had to wear to every patient. Goggles, mask, gloves and an apron can be very hot and uncomfortable and our patients can find it all a bit daunting. But it is there to protect them as well as us. It is also very difficult explaining to patients that family members are not allowed to come with them into hospital, which can be upsetting for all involved. Throughout the continuing pandemic, WMAS has always provided us with the correct PPE. We have never run short and we are continually being advised which level PPE to wear to each incident.
