Sneads Town Manager Connie Butts said Monday that last week- end’s drag boat race went so well that she’s going to ask the town council to declare it an annual event on the fi rst weekend in June, as long as the organization hosting it still wants to be there. The boaters involved in the Southern Outlaw Drag Boat Asso- ciation event were pleased with the venue, she said, as Sneads hosted its fi rst-ever such event. “We feel it went really well for a fi rst-time situation,” Butts said. “There were around 1,000 people in the crowd. We sold 690 arm- bands, for anyone over 10, and we think there were probably 300 or so kids under that age who had free admission (and therefore weren’t counted in the armband sales).” Two water slides, a bouncy house, a “train” ride, and JackieWilkinson’s volunteer booth for hair and face MARK SKINNER/FLORIDAN painting kept the children pretty well occupied, she said. Two children were killed in north Florida accidents last Friday and Saturday. In the fi rst, on June 5 in Walton County, 7-year-old Taylor Siebern died at Sacred Heart Hospital sev- eral hours after a crash on Inter- state 10. The Florida Highway Patrol re- ported that the child, of Navarre, was a passenger in an eastbound Chevrolet Equinox that drifted from its traffic lane onto the south shoulder of the road, where the vehicle struck a large pine tree. The impact caused the vehicle to spin counterclockwise. It came to rest between two large pine trees.
