Three File Formats

The three file formats we offer are ePub, Mobi, and PDF. All three provide features unique to eBook formats, such as the ability to search, navigate, and copy text. ePub

The ePub is a free and open eBook created by the International Digital Publishing Forum. This format is used by Apple, , and other software and hardware developers. ePub files are compatible with Nook, Kobo, and , as well as the iPad and iPhone. With the proper apps or software, they can also be used on Android phones, Windows phones, and your computer.

Mobi

The Mobi file format is used with Kindle readers. You can also download free Kindle reading apps at Amazon.com for use on most smart phones, computers, or tablets.

PDF

The Adobe PDF format is a widely-used standard for fixed-layout documents. You can access PDF files via any operating system through various hardware and software programs. All popular eReaders and smart phones support the PDF format. Most computers have a program pre-installed that will open , or you can open them in a variety of downloadable reading apps.

How do I transfer the file to my eReader (Kindle, Kobo, Nook, etc.) from my computer?

The process is slightly different depending on the type of eReader you are using. In almost all cases, you will need to first download the file to your computer, connect your device to your computer using a USB cord, and drag the file to a folder in your device. Amazon also offers the “Send to Kindle” service so that you can email mobi or PDF files directly to your Kindle or Kindle app.

Can I read Shambhala eBooks on my computer? Yes. Almost all computers have a default program to open PDF files. To view Mobi files, you can download a free version of the Kindle app for Mac or PC, available through Amazon. To view ePub files, you can download a free version of through Adobe.

How do I put my eBook files on my iPad or iPhone or android device?

First, please be aware that your iPad, iPhone or android device will need to have an eReader app installed. You can get the Kindle reading app, Books, iBooks, or a number of other free applications through your . *Note: The iBooks app is only available for iOS systems ( and iPhones).

iOS & iBooks

To transfer a file to your iOS device (iPad or iPhone), Download the ePub file to your computer, open iTunes and click "File, Open", and select the ePub file. When you go to your Books section in iTunes you will see it there. When you connect your iOS device, make sure the you just added is checked to be included when syncing (you can also check a box that says always sync all books). Sync your device and it will copy the book to your device.

Kindle Apps

If you’re using a Kindle app, you will have a Send-to-Kindle email address ending in kindle.com (it's usually [email protected], and it can be found at the Manage your Devices page at Manage your Kindle when you are logged into your Amazon account). Google Play Books

Google accounts automatically sync all your devices, so this option can be the easiest if you use and other Google apps. After downloading the ePub file to your computer, log in to your and go to Google Play. Select “Books,” then “My Books” on the left, and then “Upload files” on the right. Locate the file on your computer and upload it. The book will automatically be copied to your application on your device.

Can I open eBooks directly from my iOS device? Yes, you can do all this from your iPad or iPhone if you’d prefer. You will purchase the eBook at www.shambhala.com and then you should be able to simply click on the download link for the ePub file and select "Open in iBooks."
