FELLOWSHIP 2.10 The Ecclesia's basis of fellowship is that agreed upon in 1958 and set out in the Unity Booklet pages 13 to 15 which read as follows: "General Beliefs We agree that the doctrines to be believed and taught by us, without reservation, are the first principles of the One Faith as revealed in the Scriptures, of which the Birmingham Amended Statement of Faith (with positive and negative clauses and the Commandments of Christ) gives a true definition. We believe that these scriptural truths must be accompanied by a life patterned on the example of the Lord Jesus Christ - who was the word made flesh." "Fellowship It is affirmed that: a) Any member departing from any element of the one faith, as defined by us in our Statement of Faith annexed, shall, on proof of the fact being given to the satisfaction of the arranging brethren without dissent, shall cease to be in fellowship, without a formal vote of withdrawal, by the Ecclesial body, and the fact being announced to the Ecclesia. The member to be notified forthwith. b) If it is established that an ecclesia sets itself out by design to preach and propagate at large, false doctrine, then it would become necessary to disassociate from such an ecclesia. c) The course of action necessitated by the above clauses (a and b) will be regulated by the principles of the Scripture and follow the spirit of the Ecclesial Guide, Sections 32, 41 and 42." 2.12 We recognize as brethren and sisters, and welcome to our fellowship, all who have been baptised (by whomsoever) after their acceptance of the above doctrines and precepts. 2.15 Marriage with the alien is an offence against the law of Cluist. Offenders who maintain the contrary are unfit for membership with those who "consent to the wholesome words of the Lord Jesus Christ". When an offence takes place in the matter the Ecclesia shall signify its disapproval by resolution sent to the offending Brother or Sister after which the Brother or Sister shall only resume membership by admitting their offence. All communications to be in the form and spirit required by clause 4.10. Divorce and Remarriage is not permissible for believers as set out in the Ecclesial policy on Marriage and Divorce annexed. 2.18 Cessation of Fellowship If any member departs from any element of the Statement of Faith, or is persistently absent without cause from the Memorial Meeting, or persistently behaves in a manner unworthy of the Name of Christ, the Arranging Brethren shall consider the matter in conjunction with the member concerned and make a recommendation regarding the fellowship of such member to a Quarterly or Special Business Meeting. In extreme cases, on proof of the fact being given to the satisfaction of the arranging brethren without dissent, the member will cease to be in fellowship, without a formal vote of withdrawal, by the Ecclesial body, and the fact being announced to the Ecclesia. The member to be notified forthwith. 2.20 Inter-ecclesial Relationships No brother or sister whose fellowship has ceased with another ecclesia in fellowship, shall be received until the cause has been investigated and opportunity given for that ecclesia to join in the investigation. 2.22 If another ecclesia receives into fellowship a brother or sister whose fellowship with this ecclesia has ceased under clause 2.18, then the Arranging Brethren shall seek to have that ecclesia investigate the case fully with them. If the other ecclesia refuses such cooperation, and persists in fellowshipping the member concerned, it shall be a cause for considering our fellowship position with that other ecclesia. 2.24 Where another ecclesia retains in fellowship a brother or a sister who is proven to be propagating false doctrine, then this ecclesia shall declare to that other ecclesia that we are not in fellowship with that brother or sister, or with any others who share such false doctrine, and that should any of their members present themselves to us for fellowship, they will only be welcomed after they have confirmed their personal acceptance of the Unity Basis and have expressed sound views on the subject in question to the satisfaction of the Arranging Brethren. 2.26 Any decision affecting this Ecclesia's fellowship position with another ecclesia, or with any of its members, shall only be made by a Quarterly or a Special Business Meeting. 3. MEMBERSHIP 3.10 Application for Membership A condition for application for membership will be acceptance without reservation of the basis of fellowship set out in clause 2.10. 3.12 All applications for membership shall be made (preferably in writing) through the Recording Brother to the Ecclesia. The Arranging Brethren, shall then arrange an interview with the applicant or take such other steps as they consider necessary for acceptance. 3.14 Where the applicant is from another ecclesia, the Recording Brother shall obtain confirmation from an Arranging Brother of that ecclesia (preferably the Recording Brother) either by letter or verbally, that there is no reason to withhold fellowship. 3.16 Where the applicant is seeking baptism, the Recording Brother shall make arrangements, in conjunction with other Arranging Bretliren, for the examination and baptism to be conducted by an Examining Brother and a witness. The Recording Brother is to ensure that the applicant has had an appropriate discussion with a brother (preferably an Examining Brother) before announcing the application to the Ecclesia. 3.20 Transfer of Membership Any member wishing to transfer to another ecclesia shall make application to the Recording Brother for a letter of commendation to that ecclesia. 3.22 Termination of Membership Any member wishing to terminate membership, other than by transfer under clause 3.20, shall notify the Recording Brother. The Arranging Brethren shall, if possible, consider the matter in conjunction with the member concerned and make a recommendation to a Quarterly or Special Business Meeting. 4 CONDUCT OF MEMBERS 4.10 Accusations No accusation or evil report against any brother or sister shall be listened to in public or in private unless the brother or sister making it shall first have taken all possible steps to comply with the principle set out in Matthew 18.

  • The Story of the Bible
Printed for LOGOS PUBLICATIONS 632 Burbridge Road, West Beach, South Australia 5024 by Eureka Press, he Story of the Bible A detailed exposition of the Bible discussed within the family circle. The children of the Phillips family gather with their parents for a daily reading of the Bible — an important part of their lives. Then they discuss together the remarkable events of the greatest Book in all the world. SJsraeVs Solden Opportunity third volume of °ur Story of the Bible introduces us to the golden age of Israel's y; to the time when the kingdom was ruled by David and Solomon to the admiration of other nations. Unfortunately for Israel (though not for Gentiles — see Rom. 11:12-23) it did not retain this glory, but, turning aside from the way of Yahweh, it experienced distress. The previously united kingdom was divided, and because of constant alternating periods of apostasy, the record is one of sunshine and cloud, of victory and defeat, of faithful obedience and ungrateful wickedness. National sin brought national disgrace and sad- ness. This erupted into civil war and ultimately cap- tivity. The original glory was obscured in the smoke of destruction: Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed, and Israel taken captive by the Gentiles. Nevertheless there were many men and women of outstanding faith during that period whose names are recorded in the Book of Life; and many incidents of great importance and outstanding interest. These all have a message for us. The apostle Paul wrote: "Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples; and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

  • Matthew Bible Companion
MATTHEW BIBLE COMPANION GOSPEL READ THIS FIRST This Bible Companion is a summary of Dr. J. Vernon McGee’s teaching of the Gospel of Matthew heard on THRU the BIBLE. These summarized lessons get to the heart of Bible passages and are intended to stir your own thinking, prayer, and study. Begin with prayer. Dr. McGee said, “We are living in the day of the ministry of the Holy Spirit, the day of grace, when the Spirit of God takes the things of Christ and reveals them to us.” Before you start each lesson, ask the Lord to use it to grow you up in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as He is revealed in that section. Dr. McGee said, “This is the secret of life and of Christian living.” As you study, read the Bible passage first. Invite God to open your eyes and deepen your understanding of His Word. That’s a request God loves to answer! If you want to listen to Dr. McGee’s complete teaching on any specific passage, go to TTB.org/Matthew (or any book of the Bible). The corresponding audio messages are listed at the top of the summaries. You can also use this Bible Companion to follow along and take notes while you listen to Dr. McGee teach a book of the Bible on the radio or online. After every lesson, several questions are listed for your personal consideration or, if you’re reading this as a group, for your discussion. Ask the Spirit to help you take to heart what He wants to show you.

  • Christadelphian Bible Mission
Christadelphian Bible Mission Who are the Christadelphians? • An Apostolic Fellowship • The Name "Christadelphians" • A Distinctive Foundation • The Whole Bible • God, Creator and Father • The Vital Earth • Israel in God's Purpose • Promises to the Patriarchs • The Truth about Mankind • Man is Mortal • The Nature of Jesus • Son of God not God the Son • The Devil and Satan • The Good News • Baptism • The Kingdom of God • When Christ Comes... • The Life of Discipleship • Peace of Mind There must be many people who feel that there is something outstandingly significant about the person and the teaching of Jesus Christ. Yet when they survey "Christianity", both in its history and its modern forms, they find a wide variety of churches and communities, all with their differing foundations, teachings and practices. Feeling bewildered by the existence of so many groups claiming the name "Christian", they may well give up the quest for "the truth" as hopeless. This short booklet is written to draw the attention of the interested enquirer to the existence of a community of believers in Christ, calling themselves "Christadelphians", organized in groups found throughout the world. Wherever they exist they have a fellowship founded upon an agreed basis of beliefs. Fundamental to their faith is the principle that what Christ and his apostles taught in the first century was truth, and it is still the truth today. The Holy Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are their sole authority. An Apostolic Fellowship The community has no paid ministry, no robes or elaborate ceremonies, nor has it any "head of the church" or legislative council.

  • Book Reviews
JETS 50/3 (September 2007) 595–668 BOOK REVIEWS The Essential Bible Companion: Key Insights for Reading God’s Word. By John H. Walton, Mark L. Strauss, and Ted Cooper, Jr. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2006, 150 pp., $14.99 paper. As designed, The Essential Bible Companion is an elementary introduction to each individual book of the Bible. This will be beneficial for a beginning Bible reader, for Sunday School teachers aiming to give a 45-minute synopsis of a book, and perhaps for an undergraduate Bible Survey course. Like the Testaments the authors seek to summarize, there is great continuity between the OT and NT sections of the book. Most of the books in the OT and NT are summarized on two pages in an easy-to-use fashion (some of the OT prophetic books are combined and Revelation gets four pages). The summary of each book approximates the first page of an average study Bible: it includes key concepts, purpose statements, and information regarding dating. It goes beyond many study Bibles in that it is considerably more user-friendly with colorful maps, enjoyable pictures, and helpful timelines. For the Gospels, the book gives brief, but helpful, three- or four-point outlines. Unfortunately, this practice is limited to the Gospels; brief outlines for the rest of the biblical books would have contributed greatly to the design of this Bible companion. While continuity assists aesthetically and pedagogically, there is—again like the two Testaments themselves—some discontinuity between the OT and NT sections of the book. Although this discontinuity in no way hinders its readability, it does make evident some omissions that might have been helpfully added.

  • Daily Bible Reading
CHRISTADELPHIAN BIBLE COURSE Lesson 37 DAILY BIBLE READING Reading: Psalm 119:89-112 The Bible – different from all other books The Bible is like a deep well of clear water – a well so deep that you can never reach the bottom of it. The more you read, the more you find. You will never come to the time when you feel you know it all, and do not need to read it any more. Look how people received the Word of God: ACTS 17:11,12 1 THESSALONIANS 2:13 … they received the word with all eagerness, … when you received the word of God, which you examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of were so. Many of them therefore believed, with not a men but as what it really is, the word of God, which few Greek women of high standing as well as men. is at work in you believers. Why should we read the Bible? • How can we know about God unless we read His inspired W ord? • God’s ways are so different from ours. How can we find out what is right and wrong in life and what God wants us to do unless we read the guide book He has given us? • How can we follow the example of the Lord Jesus unless we read about his life? • God does not hear the prayer of the person who despises His Word (Proverbs 28:9), so we should make sure we respect and read it.
